Manchester United vs. Liverpool

Aldridge's right though. A win for them will give the impression that we're a spent force and they're on the up.

Until next season that is.

If they win against us, it'll give them a massive psychological boost, and with the points and games left, them winning it is not out of the questions, they are 2nd placed after all, and IIRC still have city and chelsea to play for, so it could happened (not that I want it to happen)

Yeah. I am not going to be as dismissive of Pool as some have been. Its March, and they're 2nd. They have to be given credit.

To be fair you've been making worst predictions than Liverpool winning the league all year gasmanc.
None really out of line with expectation and squad ability, I think we all knew United would dip but no one had the crystal balls for what we've seen from them this year, same can be said for Liverpool, or I should probably say, the scoring form of your front two.

I'm going for a draw, Liverpool is very good this season but I think the Man Utd player will raise their game higher than the norm of this season for this season.Scoreless draw

7 points with a game in hand a with both coming to Anfield wouldn't be monumental at all.

0% chance of you guys winning the league.

Liverpool have an excellent chance to win the league since they turn up for the big games however they are also playing relegation threatened sides. I think they have 2 games against title challengers, 2 against top four challengers, 4 against relegation fighters and the other two are away to West Ham and home to Newcastle.

The 8 games against teams fighting for something will be dangerous therefore I'm not sure whether it is fair to say Liverpool have a great chance because four of their games are against teams at the bottom of the table or whether it is fair to say they will have many challenges to rise up to especially against those teams fighting for something including those that will give it everything they have in their bid to avoid relegation.

Would you rather almost half of your games against teams in the relegation dog fight or not?

I am calm about this one. There is far more pressure on Liverpool because they think they can win the title. For us, it's a game we should fire ourselves up for and enjoy. With the Greeks next week it would be a massive boost.Just get at them and I have a feeling for matas first United goal!

Moyes needs to win this. He should be gone if he loses this game - as dramatic and knee jerk as that sounds it'll be a true test as to whether he has the cojones to rise to lift the team for a game like this. With all the players he's got back he has no excuse either.

And please for the love of god win this game so these smug scousers can go back to hibernation, their whole 'sing when we're winning' mentality here is getting tiresome.

Shit, this is at home. For some reason, I was under the impression that it was at Anfield.

Awesome. We're going to teach these pretenders to our throne a lesson. Margin of two or more goals, I reckon. Time to slap a bit of reality into the dippers.

I'd like to see Moyes come out and put a bit of pressure on Liverpool before this one.

"They'll be starting to feel the pressure a bit now and United are the last team they'll want to be playing ahead of a tricky run in."

I'm all for a wee bit of mind games but Moyes knows all too well it might end up with him looking like an idiot, what with us being a bit shit and all.

This place will go batshit if we get beaten. The "cannae take the strain" message will be all we'll see until June.

Never could like him....I remember he scored and he celebrated in front of Fernando Couto's face. He's a twat of the highest order.

Yet another example as to why I hate them

That 'tash he wears too. All he needs is a bubble perm and the sterotype is complete. Never saw Ian Rush act like that.

You honestly think you will be saying this come the end of March?

I don't think we will win the league but in all honesty in the position we are currently in we are at least in contention and the team have to give everything in the aim of trying to win it.
That's all.

As for Aldridge usually agree with what he has to say, just an example of a typical ex-red who is still a fan. Sure there are examples of ex-United who come across with similar views on MUTV and more.

He'd be taken seriously for about the first ten words of that statement. We may well lose to you guys but I don't think the players will be in the least bit frightened about playing you. If anything it's exactly the sort of game to get up for.

Going to this and more nervous than any time in the previous three or four years. Although even a win is unlikely to get us into the top 4 I'd like to see Moyes give a bit of verbal towards Liverpool. Coming out after a win saying "Today we ended Liverpool's title challenge" would be worth more than just 3 points and earn him some brownie points with all United fans as well as wind the scousers up nicely.

As for the line up I think one of RVP/Rooney has to be dropped. They have no relationship and moving Mata into a central position with Adnan wide could cause Liverpool huge problems. Liverpool are weak in the FB positions especially Cissokho so I'd much rather have Adnan running at him than anyone else.

Liverpool have almost no natural width in their side. They'll up with Gerrard/Hendo/Allen as the midfield 3 along with Coutinho/Suarez/Sturridge with Henderson covering on the right. You could get away with playing Kagawa on the left who naturally takes up more central positions and can help us compete in those areas.

Gerrard is a liability in his Pirlo wannabe role when he's pressed heavily, Villa absolutely mauled him a month or so ago at Anfield were it took him 20+ mins to even register a pass. Getting numbers around him while they try and play out from the back could pay dividends.

Rodgers seems to have given up on playing his high possession tika tika football in order to get the best out of his front 2. Liverpool sacrifice a man in midfield for that partnership but you can't argue it hasn't been a success. No chance I start with Rio/Vidic vs those two. We need much more mobile CB's to deal with them and I see no reason not to start with Jones/Smalling again.

Even going forward for the rest of the season Moyes should be using Jones/Smalling/Evans in whatever order he prefers since Vidic is off in the summer. Best time to start planning for next season is now.

I disagree completely.

Mentally I think the last place that squad will want to go on a title run in is Old Trafford regardless of either team's form and you're very naive if you think otherwise. The pressure on them to not drop points against United of all teams will be huge.

To be fair... Paddy Crerand is an absolute tool on MUTV. Everything he sees is through red tinted spectacles. Its shameful sometimes.

Of course there's pressure. I don't dispute that at all. But no matter how far you've dropped this season this is still a meeting of 2 huge rivals and 2 top teams and as such we are not necessarily "expected" to win. Of course we want to and have a very good chance to but there is a very strong argument for there being more pressure at a ground at which we are clear favourites.

As you well know every game in a title run in brings pressure and I guess we'll find out soon enough how ready the players are.

Yeah, I don't think we will win the league either but we certainly have a chance. Do United have 0% chance of winning the Champion's League? Absolutely not.

You have a considerably better chance of winning the league than we have of winning the CL imo.

People are writing off Pool just because they dont want to believe they can win the league. If we were in the same situation, would people feel the same?

Not tight enough at the back for me, in all honestly. Made more defensive errors this season than any other team in the league, according to this. It hasn't mattered that much, because the form of Suarez and Sturridge has been exceptional, and they've simply outscored opponents. But it'll catch up with them eventually.

Hopefully starting on Sunday.

You can win the champion's league by winning 1 game and drawing 3.

Edit: Or 2 wins, a draw and a loss.

I'm not talking probability or numbers. I dont see any reason why Pool cant beat the likes of City at Anfield, you've been great there all season. On the other hand, us without Mata in the CL vs the teams that are qualifying, well, even if we did beat Olympiakos, we'd need a good draw just to make the semis

Let's be clear about two things. There is ZERO percent chance Liverpool will lift the prem trophy this season...there is ZERO percent chance United will make top four.

The massive decision for Moyes is whether to drop RvP and go with either Welbeck or Kagawa. I now think he's going to go for Danny Boy, who will get behind pool's mediocre back line.

Whoops, ignore my maths. I thought you were already in the 1/4s and playing for the semis. Not paying much attention to it TBF. Maybe next year ;)

Not being tight enough would be a big issue if they were to play top teams every game thus making every bit very important. Conceding 2 vs say a Cardiff isnt that big a problem when they have the players to score 3 themselves/ The tough games on paper they have left are us, Spurs, City and Chelsea. 3 of those are at home where they've been sublime all season.

fwiw, I dont think they'l win the league either but there's no way they have 0% chance of it which was my initial point.

I did as it was all over the place :D

Hard not to believe it for sure when you put it that way.

I seriously hope we don't revert back to old mistakes this weekend.

DDG

Rafael
Smalling
Jones
Evra

Carrick
Fellaini

Mata
Rooney
Januzaj/Kawaga

Welbeck

Can't decide between Adnan or Kagawa, but would be happy with either.

Welbeck's ability to defend from the front and hold the ball up will be vital and a seat on the bench won't do RVP any harm.

Please, no Valencia or Young.

Would be mental to drop RvP if you ask me. No, he's not in top form, but he's still top class, and capable of sheer, matching winning brilliance.

And i've a hunch that both Liverpools players and supporters would rather see Welbeck walking out to face them than RvP.

Not saying Welbeck couldn't do a job, but in games like this, you do want your best players on the pitch.
