Manchester United v Olympiakos

No excitement from me regarding this game which is as devastating as our results this season. I just have no hope, even if we somehow qualify it'll be by a fluke and we will get absolutely battered in the next round.

A little part of me says this is going to be a brilliant night. 4-1 or something. Then the rational part of me gives me a slap.

Imagine us scraping a 3-0 win , moyes celebrating like he won the ticket to heaven, and the next day we draw Bayern...
I can assure you, with absolute 100% certainty, that we won't draw Bayern the next day.

I think Cleverley or Fellaini will be our Mark Robins today!

PA system will be turned off 10 minutes before KO, let's get an atmosphere going tonight as it might the last UCL game we are going to see for a while.

I reckon this is going to be a soul destroying last minute defeat.

After unsuccessfully predicting season defining moments about a dozen times already this campaign... I can't bring myself to do it here.

It'll be a 2-2 draw or 2-1 win... Olympiakos to score first.

Unless we stick Rooney in central midfield then Giggs has to start for me. I would probably play this:

De Gea
Rafael Jones Vidic Evra
Carrick Giggs
Welbeck Rooney Kagawa
RVP

Evans and Smalling being out really is a massive blow, I think we're going to need to score four...

Evra's rallying call will be futile I fear, Moyes will probably get desperate and get 4 strikers on the pitch at some point and that's when Olympiacos will probably get one on the counter.

Emotional night though this, could be a farewell to our European nights for sometime.

If the dippers can go from 7th to fighting for the title in 12 months with more or less the same players, we can do a lot better.

The Dippers have a promising young manager who's got them playing good football and getting the best out of ordinary players. Change of manager in the summer and I'd agree.

I am still not convinced by Brenton, he loves himself a bit too much and gives away his tactics after games. Thats something that will come back to bite him. Moyes can save himself tonight, but I dont think he will.

Regardless of his attitude I'm going by tangible results on the pitch. Rodgers, even in his first season at Pool had shown the promising framework for which he intended his team to develop on, its gone to plan judging by this season - they're title challengers now. Moyes on the other hand has shown nothing in terms of style of play and certainly nothing in results. You're right in that the verdict is still out on Rodgers, but he's still 10 times the manager Moyes is going by what we've seen so far.

Well, this can go a number of ways.

1. We kind of put up a fight but still being mediocre and we end up going out to some more perceived bad luck.
2. We absolutely annihilate them and win 6-0 or something and gives us some motivation to turn around our fortunes at the end of the season.
3. We get beat and continue down the slippy slope.

I'm thinking number 1 is most likely, but to be honest is the one I'd rather not have. I'd obviously prefer number 2, but given the choice between 3 and 1, I'd choose 3 as it may well mean things could change at the end of the season.

Anyone who thinks we'll get 3 goals or more without reply against this side, and with the manager we've got is seriously deluded. I have no passion at all for this game and its terrible that a humiliating defeat is potentially a favourable result, given our current circumstances. And it could be our last CL game for years. Cheers David.

But he has a plan!! :( ....He just hasn't implemented it yet as it's the wrong time!

Spoofer!!!

If they score we'll need 4, our genius manager will keep that in mind and play defensive and the rest is history...

I am baffled that Giggs has played so little. He still influences games massively and we are crying out for something in midfield at the moment. I just dont see why he hasn't played. He shagged Moyes' daughter too?

Giggs to start for me - could be his last Champions League match of his career too.

I think we will go out on away goals. 3-1.

I just cannot see us scoring 3 goals, keeping a clean sheet and put in a convincing, positive performance. Nothing suggests to me we can do it.

Even if we get through into the next round, we will be really up against it because all the other teams are so much better than us.

In his 10 years at Everton I dont recall one person talking about what great football they played.

And when its 0-0 at 75 mins, he'll proceed to make sure all our strikers are playing on the pitch on the hope that more strikers = more goals. We'll then get sucker punched by an Olympiacos goal against the run of play.

Moyes will claim we're unlucky, had chances, doesn't know what's wrong, looks forward to next game while he proceeds to entrench himself in his sex bunker.

Ah well, better get my eighties music, clothes etc back out if that's where we're going back to. No Europe, mid table finishes, expected defeats against any top ten side etc..... Can't wait

Out of interest, how can you do "a lot better" than going from 7th to fighting for the title?

Going from 9th perhaps? Is that your target?

I think it's fairly obvious he was referring to the 12th month time span with regard to doing a lot better.

I'm very confident we'll get a win today. I have a feeling Olympiacos will freeze up and bottle it. In that situation we're more than good enough to nick a few goals against them.

We're bound to see some kind of improvement on performance from the Liverpool game. Unless the players seriously down tools in an attempt to be rid of Moyes that is.

Olympiacos weren't exactly brilliant when they beat us in Greece. They could have the jitters all game and yet still beat us.

We'll win 2-0, take it to pens and have a repeat of the best penalty shootout in the history of the League Cup.

I think my pessimism doesn't stem from anything Olympiakos can and can't do against us. They're a good side but the main factor influencing tonights result is our own continued ineptitude.

Does anyone else remember the Barca tie when the atmosphere was phenomenal and we overturned the deficit and beat them? I reckon its going to be like that tonight, people will be hysterical almost. But if we play badly I do feel the atmosphere will turn ugly.
