#mufc starting XI vs @MCFC: De Gea; Rafael, Ferdinand, Jones, Evra; Carrick, Cleverley, Fellaini; Mata, Welbeck, Rooney

#mufc subs: Lindegaard, Büttner, Fletcher, Kagawa, Young, Valencia, Hernandez

Arghh. Was hoping to see Kagawa instead of Clev but can understand why he's gone for it. Good team other than that.

Would have preferred Kagawa to Cleverley, but mehh no complaints really that he's tried to make us more solid.

De Gea

Rafael, Ferdinand Jones Evra

Carrick Fellaini Cleverley

Mata Rooney Welbeck
Not bad at all.

First time Moyes is going with 4-3-3?

Disappointing Kagawa doesn't start, would've been interesting to see him in a 3 man midfield.

Thought Kagawa would have forced Moyes' hand in this game.

Decent line up that should be able to keep the score down to 4-1 city, Toure with a minimum of two goals.

Cleverley or Fellaini in the #10?

It's probably a 4-5-1 converting to a 4-3-3 during attacking phase of play. It's a side set up to hurt City though, and a less cautious approach from Moyes, which is good to see.

No Januzaj or Nani on the bench is strange. Maybe they'll both start against Villa, since we have Bayern next tuesday and will probably rest plenty.

You can see the thinking. Fellaini is going to stalk Yaya all night.

If it was a toss up between Welbeck and Kagawa which I assume it was, Welbeck provides a goal threat though there will be a creative issue, no doubt about that.

Any chance of a Liverpool-style diamond perhaps?

De Gea

Rafael - Rio - Jones - Evra

Fellaini - Carrick - Cleverley

Mata

Rooney - Welbeck

Cleverley or Fellaini in the #10?

Nah. Clev will drift wide right to cover Mata when Mata goes walkies inside. When we're under attack though it'll be a firm midfield 3.

Very disappointed not to see Kagawa start tonight, he brought the best out of Mata and links up the defence, midfield and attack better than any player we have.

Aye, Welbeck simply had to start IMO.

I think the debate would have been Cleverley (and 4-3-3) or another attacker, Valencia or Kagawa most likely.

Fellaini probably behind Rooney, Mata right, Welbeck left... :(
Knew there was no chance, but still hoped Kagawa would get in. Cleverley is surprising, hope he steps it up.

Surprised DM went for three in CM, but pleased nonetheless, everything is better than 4-4-2, and Young/Valencia aren't in the team as well. Nullify City's threat through the middle and we will have a chance. Cleverley will do his job IMO, I'm not his biggest fan, but he is useful in a midfield three. Would've liked to see Kagawa, but the front three looks very strong and this game is made for Danny.

COME ON UNITED

We're playing 4-3-3 ? :s Zabaleta will be over the moon, Nasri and Silva too, or are we playing the 5 across the midfield with welbeck left and Mata right? :s

I would not be surprised if we play a diamond to crowd out Silva and Nasri coming in off their flanks

Glad Moyes has cleared up the fact that he's stumped as to why we've been shite at home, would have never guessed

Negredo out

That's official btw

451 I should imagine, meaning that Rooney will drop back into midfield when we don't have the ball and Welbeck will be running against Demichelis.

Glad that we're going with a three man midfield (unless Fellaini is in at no.10 :nervous:). Shame that we don't actually have three good midfielders but that's a problem for another time. It'll be interesting to see how they shape up, how far forward Fellaini will be and whether Mata and Welbeck will be pushed out wide.

As for Kagawa not starting, is anyone really surprised? He looks set to be sold in the summer, unfortunately.

Wouldn't be massively surprised to see Fellaini at #10. I hope it's a 3 man midfield, though.
