Shinji Kagawa

I thought it was a good substitution when he came on for Cleverley, but Kagawa offered nothing in that half. Kept possession okay and didn't give it away too much, but there wasn't enough penetration at all.

That said, none of our players played well.

Agreed. It's pointless to scapegoat Kagawa.

I think we would have been better off if Mata and Kagawa switched places. Mata wasn't having a good game centrally, and Kagawa was never going to outrun Zabaleta anyways.

Probably the best player for us in the second half after Rooney.
He did nothing really though, apart from keep possession and some nice touches, but that's all it took considering the rest gave up so he and Rooney were doing it on their own. Needs to start the next game. Decent showing but didn't have the chance to get anything more then that.

Better than Mata's expected disappearing act in a United shirt.

I wish we could go back in time and stop Ferguson from buying van Persie. Kagawa has been managed horribly and unfairly by two United managers now. I hope he'll leave for his own sake.

Don't know why he bothers running into space, after he passes the ball. He never gets it back in return. Gets overlooked constantly when he drifts into space.

I honestly think it might come to be seen as his biggest ever mistake. Y'know, appointing from his weird belief in some kind of Scottish essentialism.

Nonsense, he won us a title. That makes up for it whatever the case. Fergies biggest ever mistake BY FAR is appointing Moyes. Then there's wasting 7m on Bebe

We were winning that title whatever happened. In the end he didn't improve us by a single point.

Wishing that SAF hadn't bought RVP, a player who was instrumental in our winning the title last season (and that's putting it mildly)?

Ranks as one of the more ridiculous things I've read on the Caf.

Saying he was shit is completely pointless, whole team was awful and he was certainly not our worst player today. Did as little as Mata did, without giving the ball away as much.

Kagawa will be the battering ram until people realise how badly mata is being utilised mata hasn't shown anything that kagawa hasn't so far. The problem for me has always been the problem, kagawa and mata show the exact problem with our system. No cohesion no game plan.

Watching Kagawa and Mata right now, is like watching a cheesy PG-13 rated teen movie. Here's the plot:

Two prodigy teenagers get summoned by the high school principle, Mr.Satan, who's like toooootally lame. He decides to punish them for their awesomeness, and sends them to a summer camp for retarded kids, thinking it might humble them. When they arrive at retard camp, they have to learn to how cope with people they never thought they'd have to socialize and play with. To their shock and horror, they find out that there are a couple of individuals who aren't in fact completely retarded. They're just pretending to be retarded, because believe it or not, the biggest retard of them all, is the camp leader, Mr. Moyes! And he's determined to knock our two heroes down, reducing them to retards as well. How will they escape this mess?!

Starring:
Rob Schneider as 'David Moyes'
Zach Galifianakis as 'Wayne Rooney'
Antonio Banderas as 'Juan Mata'
Jackie Chan as 'Shinji Kagawa'

He wasn't shit at all IMO. Was probably our best player in the second half (with Rooney), which isn't saying much considering the rest were crap, but he was decent. Kept hold of the ball under pressure, tried to actually make something happen, actually got past his man a few times and played Evra in some decent positions to put a ball in. He certainly did more then the rest of the team did.

I know you don't think so, but check for instance Gambit and GledTheRed above.

Do you think he did shit? I'm not exactly sure what somebody expects him to do if he's being singled out for being shit when he was the only one capable of keeping possession under pressure and finding players with passes. He at least got the basics right. Is it his fault Mata, Fellaini, Rafael all couldn't play simple passes and kept handing possession to City players? There was that one play mid way through the second half, all the players had pretty much given up, yet he was still running, asking for the ball, he got closed down by a few players, but he managed to play it to Fellaini who was similarly closed down, yet he gave it away instantly. We need more players comfortable on the ball like Kagawa, who don't fall apart the second they get pressured. Not aim to get rid of the one we have.

Most people criticizing him is just agenda driven and they'll criticize him no matter what he does.

No, not relative to the rest of the team, which is why I said it's pointless to say he was shit when others were worse (and he had 45 rather than 90 minutes)
Oh, yeah I didn't realize I even answered your comment before and you were disagreeing with them. See what you mean now.

The 7 mill on Bebe is going to look like pocket change once we work out how much Moysie is going to cost us :(

Back on topic, I think he did ok today considering the circumstances, certainly better than a fair number of players on the pitch. Like Mel_F mentioned above, it'll be interesting to see what happens with Mata. Maybe Moyes can ruin them both.

it's just disappointing :( while i thought shinji wasn't very good, you look around at everyone else and see they weren't much better.our attacks were disjointed too.it was like Old Trafford was too big for us and we didn know how to space ourselves well across the pitch.

he tried to make things happen but so did other players. it just didnt come off and it didnt like it was going to come off if we played for another 60 minutes. i wanted more from him but at the same time, our shape was pretty poor throughout the game. we attacked well in the first half but came up short when we entered the final third. we seemed to drop off a bit after his inclusion but maybe that had more to do with City's second.

as someone else said, think it's pointless saying this player or that player was shit. just another collective mess and another false dawn after a couple of victories.

Totally and utterly anonymous last night. He may as well have stayed on the bench.

Ridiculous to judge this man when he's hardly had true match practice the past few months and has had to deal with the odd minutes and the rare start here and there.

He's not done much worse than Mata, the latter actually had a fair chance with a consistent run of starts for us.

Although he didn't have a good game last night, I'd say on the whole over the last 5/10 appearances, he is doing a lot better fitting in with the team, his talent was never in question, still a bit of size added to him couldn't be a bad thing as in the more physical games he can't impose himself in the same way or have much effect, strange choice by Moyes to play him I think, he's the perfect continental player in a sense.

Never heard so many excuses for an under performing player. Anyone, or anything but his fault.

"The cult of Kagawa"

Spoony

*Sigh*

To think that redcafe used to be renowned for the wit and humour of it's posters. Where did it all go wrong?

Kagawa was pants last night. Horrible feeling he'll turn out like Fellaini. A flat track bully. Decent against weak opposition but anonymous against the better teams, when there's less space and time on the ball. Also explains why he seems to perform much better in Europe.

Still, it can be handy to have a flat track bully in the squad. Not sure we should get rid of him in the summer but he definitely needs to create and/or score some goals between now and the end of the season if he's going to justify his place.

honestly, i just do not get the love this guy is getting. He does absolutely nothing and has rarely done anything in a United shirt to show otherwise. The premier league does not suit him. He needs to leave. He has had enough time. Get rid this summer please. Useless.

Besides rooney, rvp and ddg, who else in the squad this season have done anything noteworthy.

Oh please, he had a bad game yesterday. Just like the rest of the team.

I'd like to hear what the anti-Kagawa brigade say when Mata goes down the same route under Moyes. And no I'm not a Kagawa fanboy. I think he needs to do better but the problems are far deeper than just 'he's not suited to the PL'.

Mata too. Mata even is a regular and is getting games in rows, something that Kagawa never did under Moyes. Yet he is equally disappointing.

It would be awesome when people will realize that if all good players (bar Rooney and De Gea) are playing shit means that they aren't to blame for that.

I dont think he was terrible last night. Wasn't great but was definitely better than the likes of Mata. And he had a great game in the match before where he started so I'd still give him a run in the side.

Not as Manchester United players, no.

Which is also relevant to the undeserved status that Kagawa has amongst many posters on here.

It all boils down to whether or not you think Kagawa had a good first season. It's a matter of perception.

I think he had a 7 out of 10 season. Good enough to be considered good(especially for being his first season in a new league and a new system), but not good enough to be considered an integral part of the team. He had a good goals/assist return in terms of minutes played, he worked hard, did very few mistakes, and managed to pull off some sexy moves while playing. That's totally fine by me. It would be nice if he won us more games, but that will come as long as he gets consistent playtime.

Moyes has effectively ruined Kagawa's progression.
