I'm sure people probably said the same about Robinho.

I understand your scepticism but Neymar has more footballing ability and a better attitude for me. Tactically and technically better, he has already been the best player on the pitch in a classico and has put in a few very good performances. Almost every attacker who comes to Barca struggles in their first season.

I'd give this season a 6/10 for him. With everything that has happened this season that isn't too bad in my opinion.

Surely he got injured somehow? He can't be fooling everybody around like that, I don't believe he's pretending.

The only possible way he could have been injured is due to the impact of his dive. Even still it wouldn't cause a normal person to writhe around like a fish out of water. He's a fanny.

I must be in a minority then who thinks he has been OK? Not as good as the hype was, but considering how ridiculous the hype was he was never going to justify it imo. He is only 22, moved not only to a new club, but a new country. Add to that all the off-field issues surrounding his transfer and finally adapting to Barca's complicated system. He was also a bit unlucky with injuries. All in all I think he has been decent, but not as good as expected. If he was performing like that at United I would have been satisfied considering he was only 21/22 moving to a completely different league.

Neymar isn't technically better than Robinho. He does have a better football brain, is miles quicker, more creative and far more productive.

I don't think many, if any, players are technically better than Robinho. Robinho's problem is he makes terrible decisions and can't apply that technical ability to actually being effective on a football field.

That's not the only way. Blow in that area can be painful. As said, not that other player fouled him, but Neymar apparently ran into him and got caught awkwardly with opponents elbow.

I do think he's an outrageous diver though, but willing to give him some benefit of a doubt here.

Of course a blow in that area can be painful but you would hardly call that a blow, he barely touched him. When was the last time you saw a player roll around like that in genuine pain? The only time you see it happen is when someone dives and wants to look hurt. Just look at the way he jumps back when he comes in contact with the guy, it's so over the top. Maybe I'd consider giving him the benefit of the doubt if he didn't have previous but as you said, he's an outrageous diver.

It's one of my biggest peeves with a lot of footballers. Just get on with it!

I think he is but I don't think he is more creative though. I agree with the rest. Definitely faster and a better brain. Robinho was overrated despite his talent.

He's only 22 and has already scored 33 goals for Brazil. At that rate he'll easly become Brazil's top scorer of all time, despite (unlike Romario and L. Ronaldo) not being a centre forward. Amaizing.

Yep, he's already our joint 7th top scorer along with Ronaldinho and Jairzinho. Only one goal behind Rivaldo and six behind Bebeto. Insane.

He's ludicrously talented. His record for Brazil is mental at such a young age and if he keeps his feet on the ground he could be up there with the best. Not the finest season at Barcelona but I'd have him in the mix for the next non-Ronaldo/Messi Ballon d'Or

It would not surprise me in the slightest if he's the star of the World Cup. The underrating in this place is criminal sometimes; the guy has an incredible chance to be at the top of the game in a couple of years time when Messi and Ronaldo step down.

He's incredible, Brazil went a goal down, and he stepped it up a notch, that's something great players do and he did it last night.

I like him, yes, he probably is not among the very very best players in the world yet, but he is extremely talented and a joy to watch. Despite his perceived mediocre season at Barca, I know if this was a 21/22 year old United player having such a decent season after moving not only to a different country, but continent, and despite all the drama/tax issues/president stepping down, etc. I would have been really impressed.

Above all he is incredibly strong mentally and seems to cope really well with the laughable pressure he is carrying as the talisman of the most successful footballing country ever, even more so in a home WC.

All in all he is a very good player who will win Balon d'or sooner rather than later.

Are there far more international matches being played these days or what? I couldn't believe it last night when the commentator mentioned his appearances and goals for Brazil.

Noticed it loads of times with other players recently too.

I'll tell you what I don't like about him (or whatever it is that surrounds him). It's that he's spoken of as one of the games very best despite his achievements at club level being in a mediocre Brazilian league. He's done well for Brazil but I don't think it warrants is crazy hype.

He's talented for sure and he seems to play well for a Brazilian side that's been on a roll. But I'd like to see him first prove himself at barca and then decide what level he's capable of.

"If any?"

Haven't heard of this guy called messi then?

And Robinho wasn't that brilliant technically. The likes of zidane and iniesta were/are far better on a technical level too.

I didn't think it was a particularly great performance from him last night. Both of his goals should have been saved. He was good in the first half, less so in the second. Hardly vintage stuff.

Horrendously overrated player and a lightweight.

What from one game?

It wasn't a great performance at all. His first shot should have been saved and the penalty wasn't a penalty but was also a poor penalty.

Well, he scored both goals though! That's what counts in the end. If Ronaldo or Rooney had done this (scored 2 important WC goals, or even just the equalizer) ppl here would be singing their praises non-stop.

Indeed

But they wouldn't. People always trot that out but it's never the case. Ronaldo and Rooney have had plenty of games, even seasons, where they've impressed statistically and still come in for some criticism (see Ronaldo in 08/09 or Rooney 11/12).

What from one game?
Of course not. The kid is anaemic, he's shrugged off constantly whenever I watch him for Barca, and he often looked actually scared playing for them as the season wore on. First season and all. I don't think he has it in the way some seem to think he has.

Could have got himself sent off. Like him as a player though.

He has performed below where he is capable of performing at Barca this season, but to say he hasn't got it is way over board tbh
It is Barca afterall, it was always going to be an adjustment, its like saying Isco hasn't got it based on this season at Real

his decision making is poor. he runs into a crowd of defenders and tries to beat them all. He has to improve his decision making.

I didn't say he doesn't have areas of improvement (he is 22). Again to say he hasn't got it is overboard is my point.

Saying he has got it (and let that be the last time either of use that!) is a stretch based on what he's shown. What's he done to warrant that kind of hype? Inflated his Brazil scoring record through friendlies with dead rubber sides? Last night's performance with his two lucky goals? His below-average debut season at Barca?

I'm at a loss to see what people see in him. Literally nothing he does is spectacular. Even his dribbling ability and flair is just "good" rather than special.
