Luka Modric

Let's just keep trying each of the available top midfielders until we get one. I'm not joking, I'd happily see us do that if it will eventually work.

There's room for Modric and Fabregas in our squad, in my opinion. So it's no harm to go for both of 'em, and if one fails bring in Fellaini.

So with rumours that Vidal will go to Madrid increasing, could this guy be up for grabs?

If the Fabregas bid fails, I'd love to have this guy here. PL proven, and will be a fine player to have in midfield for us. A big improvement.

Ah feck, never knew that was happening. How much is he supposedly going for?

If Vidal is available we should leave Modric and get him, he would be absolutely ideal

I m not sure if Modric would be the ideal partner for Carrick as his best position tends to be deep playmaker role - same as Carrick. Fabregas who can play in a more advanced role would a better option. Cabaye is a bit similar to Fabregas but is nowhere near when it come to class.

Apparently 45million is being thrown about. Most likely in euros.

Highly unlikely he'd opt for us over Madrid, let's be honest.

As for Modric, the only reason I'd have my reservations is that we haven't gone for these La Liga cast offs before. Mind you, we're in for Fabregas...

Modric is near two years older than Fabregas. I wouldn't like to see us spent more than £20mil on him.

Cheers Hernandez

Yeah I probably agree with you that he wouldn't, which is annoying because we are just as big a club as Madrid.

Just my personal opinion on him, quality player no doubt about it, just don't like his attitude towards United.

His attitude as in that he knocked us out pretty much and plays well generally against us? You being croatian, it's weird that you don't want him here.

He would fit perfectly to United alonside Carrick, I know that.

But he's given 2 or 3 interviews to Croatian printed papers about United and he never saw United as that much bigger step than Tottenham, but rather waited for Real or Barca to come for him.

For me he never understood what a step forward would it be for him to work with Sir Alex, I've made an impression about him as someone who doesn't appreciate Sir Alex (then) or United enough.

He won't leave Real for United, that's sure and that's why I'm happy about him staying there, hope he produces for country but fails miserably for the club.

I always got that vibe from him as well. I think his perspective probably hints at what may be a wider spread opinion however, as I increasingly get the feeling many top (established) players share a similar sentiment. Perhaps it's worth considering though, whether Modric is under-appreciating us, or whether we are over-appreciating ourselves.

Best midfielder in the world? Been Real Madrid's best/most consistent player this season. He's up there with Vidal, Toure, Iniesta and Kroos.

Thread title really should be changed. His form this year surely has earned him that much :smirk:

Just amazing to read some of the comments in this thread. Modric was arguably the best CM in the premiership before he moved and he'll likely get a nomination for Spanish player of the year this season. Would have carried him to Old Trafford.

In the last 5 years or so Modric is the guy that I'm most frustrated we didn't go and sign.

One of them doesn't belong in the same conversation as the other two.

On another note, do Madrid have any midfielders going spare?

Absolutely wonderful player. The way he manipulates the ball to get out of tight spaces is pure joy to watch, as is the way he effortlessly passes the ball with whatever technique the situation dictates, and how he brilliantly weights his passes with and without curling it.

He was never as bad as the bandwagon jumpers said last year anyway.

I don't watch every league, but its hard to think of a midfielder who been as good as and as consistent as modric, at least in the premiership and la liga.

It was getting a bit ridiculous. I remember he was voted (I think in Marca) as the worst Liga signing of that season. He was playing within himself, sure, but he was never terrible.

Great player, so easy on the eye.

He passes amazingly well and he drives forward with the ball. He even put in some impressive tackles today.

What more could you want from a midfielder? Top top player.

He's not that good.

To be honest, you'd struggle to name many CM's that have been better than him this season. If they win the CL he'll be remembered in time. He has been a class above this season.

My Spanish and Madrid supporting buddy named 3 players ahead of him who were better tonight.Couldn't believe it! I personally thought he was man of the match, never wasted a pass.
