Manchester United vs. Norwich City

This is why I don't want Giggs to take over the job permanently. We need new ideas, we can't hold on to the "United way" of playing and let go. I'm sure we can have a United way of playing that still involves pace and creativity without playing a 4-4-2 when we don't really have the players for it. Or rather, we have the players to better play other formations.

Ideally, Smalling should have started next to Vidic and Mata should have started behind Rooney, other than that I think it's a fair line-up. Not sure why Januzaj is not involved at all today? Surely he could provide a productive display from the bench?

The whinging about Januzaj not starting is fecking demented. When did he last play well enough to earn a place in a starting line-up?

The 2nd to last game he played, against Newcastle, where he scored?

The last game was Bayern and he only got 10 minutes when we were completely out of the game.

It's a Fergie side?

Its a manchester United side! Pacey wide men and now with kagawa quality down the middle as well rather than two strikers. Giggs gets it.
Love it! Moyes would have been crucified if he put out this XI, now it's a "return to Uniteds values!".

Lineup not much of a surprise. Some who think it'll be 4-5-1/4-3-3 I think'll be disappointed. Welbeck wants to play up front more so I see Kagawa and Valencia on thw wings with Welbeck and Rooney up front.

He's showing massive faith in Kagawa and Cleverley though. If either of them have a quite game (which they often do) it could become tight through the middle.

Must be shit for Hernandez when you consider his performances versus Everton and Newcastle and Rooney's performances versus Bayern and Everton.

People remember we are playing a side fighting for their lives and a team who put in a pretty good performance against Liverpool last week.

Having experienced players in the starting XI is probably a good idea in this case as they will know what to expect in situations like this.

Fellaini not even in the squad? Make Giggs permanent manager.

...

Wait, wait, no Mata on the lineup? Sack Giggs.

Thinking about it, it's not that surprising of a lineup. He went for pace out wide with Welbeck and Valencia. Valencia has played really well lately actually so he deserves a start. Rooney plays always because he's a top class striker and our leader on the pitch. In the hole, its a straight choice between Kagawa and Mata. Most on here would pick Mata but you can't argue based on recent form.

Defence wise, not surprising. Rio and Vida deserve a proper send off and get a few games before the end of the season, because they are both United legends.

Wouldnt worry about the januzaj thing, giggs said only a few months ago that he thought januzaj was the best young player he'd seen at united since rooney.

You need no better statement of trust

Really don't get the moaning on here, it's the same front four that faced Bayern. People are just crying because he's rightfully split the Mata-Kagawa partnership up depsite it being available.

There wasn't a chance in a million years that he would be playing both of them again after last week.

Dont think thats anything to do with Moyes.

Their new ad has the slogan "Risk Everything"

It has to be about that.
People will read too much into it

Bit of both if you ask me.

I agree with 10/11 positions, but dropping Smalling, our best centre back, for two players who are finished at this club is just monumentally ridiculous. On the other hand he does rate Jones ahead of Smalling at right back, so that's a positive.

Not a great line up to be fair, not expecting much from this. I see it as a friendly game that will hopefully be seen as a new chapter for the Club.

I think Moyes actually picked teams that the caf wanted more frequently than Fergie.

Without doubt. Some of Fergie's selections looked like they were picked out of a hat.

The jokes here about Moyes starting players out of position are silly seeing as he did this alot less than SAF. Apart from the strange persistence with Smalling at right back and the constant moving of Rooney to midfield, Valencia to right back as the default attacking change during a match, there isn't much evidence of Moyes picking players out of position.

Can we stop reading so much into players futures from one team selection?

Love it! Moyes would have been crucified if he put out this XI, now it's a "return to Uniteds values!".

I never crucified him for his lineups. I always believe United look better with pace out wide. Whoever it is.

So Januzaj and Fellaini dropped completely and Mata on the bench with Rio and Vidic back at centre back?

Lineup has a bit of a jobs for the boys feel to me. Seems heavily based on players who've been at United a long time where possible.
