Mata is not better than Rooney imo, nor faster. I'm glad he came on because he's a superb player, and for me he should be cemented in our starting 11 next season but I don't think the team looks balanced with him Rooney and Kagawa.
Him and Rooney needed those goals after last week though thats for sure.
I think more people have been annoyed at Moyes' misuse of him. He's an excellent player, best #10 at the club.
Comparing Mata and Rooney is nonsensical, their best positions are not the same and could (and should) play together. Build the team around them both.
Amazing little player. Two years ago if someone had told you we would sign Mata and RVP most people would say that we would walk the league and win the CL.

He is so good its impossible. Hope Van Gaal recognises his talent and build the team around him. Not sure where that leads Rooney but Mata is the best playmaker in the league.

Play him behind the striker and surround him with fast attacking players and the good times will roll. He's brilliant.

Mata was playing better than him last season and the season before that and since Mata's got to play football after we purchased him he's been better than Rooney. Being 3 years younger I fail to see that Rooney is the better player.
Silva has a claim to that as well. But he does go through bad patches.

There was a lot of negativity around him in general because the almighty Jose didn't deem him as a great player, I remember many questioning his signing and saying the same thing.

Gary Neville is so biased. As Mata is neither English nor "quick without a brain" he can't praise him. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he even thought Young or Lennon were better than Mata.
We need more technically players at the club. Thats the reality. People go on about the side lacking pace but for me lack of technically ability and first touch are just as much a problem. if we want to be back up with the elites of Europe we need players of Matas class.
Breaks involving Mata/Kagawa do seem to go a bit more smoothly.
