United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

Next week is what the rumours say, right?

I remember a few weeks back when these rumors surfaced that we had spoken with van Gaal to possibly take over from Moyes while Moyes was still in a job with us. Many just brushed it under the rug saying that this is just speculation and there is nothing to it. Moyes was his usual gleeful self when asked if he was worried about his job and kept making comments about why certain clubs go for certain type of managers (like him) as they think long term and know how to be successful. I must admit I hated his guts that time because when it is time to be arrogant, when going into matches, he keeps dithering and plays the underdog card and almost always says the wrong things in the pre and post-match conferences but he was full of himself when asked about his job as if he had done a sterling job so far!
Now, that LvG is on the verge of taking over, I feel there is hope once again that we will compete this coming season. I honestly don't know why I went on this rant which had nothing to do with when LvG will take over but I just feel so happy! :D

I think most of us feel that way, mate :D

The main thing for me is if he picks up the phone to any potential signing, the response isn't going to be Van who (as oppose to Moyes), never heard of you?

The main thing for me is that he's a far superior coach in every way possible.

I doubt there are many professional footballers around who would not know who the manager of Manchester United is at any given time. We are pretty fecking famous as a football club.

That is exactly the difference between the two, one known because of being the manager of united and the other is some one who players look upto.

I'm more excited for van Gaal than I am the prospect of any signings this summer.

The point was if you missed it, my tongue was firmly placed in my cheek. That aside, how many players come to clubs to have the experience of playing under certain managers? That transfer strategy worked enough times for SAF. Also you give some players to much credit about their knowledge of who manages where....

Giggs talking about him is pretty much like a confirmation that it's a done deal. Next season will entertaining at least.

So who is our left-footed centre-back next season if van Gaal comes?

I heard before he strongly favours a left-footer as the left of the central pairing and Martin Demichelis says in the Guardian today:
"All my years at Bayern I played on the left side of central defence, like I do now at City, but I am not a left-footed player. Van Gaal became convinced that the position demanded a left-footed player, so suddenly I was out of favour. I felt I had done a good job for the club and played well enough to prove his theory wrong but he wanted to stick to it."

I suppose Evans is the choice from the players we've already got, but will van Gaal want to get someone else?

Just to give you the background to this story:

It is not only van Gaal who does - and it sure is a question if you have such a player of class available. When he has not or like at Bayern, the player is still very young, he might not insist on it. Van Gaal had the player available with Holger Badstuber. In 2009/10 he still was very raw - and he used him as a left fullback - not really his position as he is not the fastest. In 10/11 he started to play in central defense.

I bet he will be watching this game and thinking, what the hell am I dealing with here with Nani and Young?

Cannot wait til he gets here now and kicks out some of these undroppable players.

Given what we've read about Van Gaal, Nani seems to be very much up Van Gaal's street.
He places great importance on intelligence and favours players he believes to be the smartest.
Then again Nani doesn't really fit that category although he's fast, full of tricks and can score when on form. :)

He's intelligent in that he has good vision and good movement. He takes risky decisions, which is a potential sticking point, but given that Van Gaal like skilful wide men that can beat players and involve themselves in the possession side of things, he seems like his 'type' of player.

Even if this all ends in tears, at least we can say we've made a crack at sorting out this stale, one-dimensional football by employing a coach that will genuinely offer is fresh ideas and, hopefully, teach our players how to keep the ball and play with some movement and variation. We just cannot continue to play like we do.

I hope he sells all of our average players a month into his appointment. We need it. A yard sale is always good when your garage is full of crap.

Can't wait for him to come in so he can get rid of the deadwood and change the philosophy of the club. This idea we must play with wingers is pointless when the wingers are not good enough.

He must look at our squad and wonder what the fecks happened in recent years. There's at least 5 players around the first team (not even including Rio, Vidic and Evra) who need to be sold.

He will be a massive breath of fresh air in the club.

Revolutionize us and that will be his greatest legacy.

I'm looking forward to him changing our style of play.

Our cross cross cross routine is getting tiresome.

I hope he just goes all out and rips this team apart. If I don't see single midfielder or winger (needless to say I don't count Januzaj as a winger) currently at United ever play for us again, I won't be sorry.

van Gaal and Woodward should look at selling Cleverley, Valencia, Young, Carrick and Fletcher before even thinking about signing any other player. I'd rather he signs a few young players with potential rather than watch this.
