Not even sure who we should take off, plenty to choose from. Rvp should stay up front, mata behind him, januzaj on one wing but then I'd take off welbeck and kagawa and put on Valencia and Carrick, give us a more balanced side here. Too lightweight for a team like Southampton.

This has been dire. We've hardly had any of the ball. Whenever we have, we've been poor, Kagawa, Januzaj and Welbeck being the main culprits.

kagawa is so slow on the ball and running off the ball. Got caught out so many times and then he cant run at all. Jesus, steven hawking without his wheelchair would be quicker than him on the ball

Well, terrible, but honestly after the season we've had its not surprise. I didn't think for a second we'd suddenly perk up and play our hearts out for an end of season game.

I don't blame Giggs for it, but it does show that he's only human. Maybe dampening the hype is a good thing, for both him and LVG.

what the heck was the ref doing missing that elbow?!?

Wouldn't be surprised if Vidic takes the chance to utterly wipe Lambert out later

The boy Clyne would offer better cover on both full back positions for us. The energy we lack is frightening and we offer very little pace. We need to sign a couple of very mobile players imo. Lucas M from PSG would be ideal, Shaw would be great and a mobile player in the middle of the park.

Rafael also makes a huge difference. I know he hasn't had the best of seasons and his injury proneness has come back again, but last year when we won the title a big part of it was due to his form. He was overshadowed by RVP but I rated him as the second best performer last season.

What if not even Louis can sort this shite out?:(

What if we have to watch the same shit on a stick football for the next year as well? These players are braindead and i wonder if they're able to learn new things from LvG. If not then we are screwed.

The scapegoating of Kagawa is hilarious:lol:

Yes, he's been bad, but he's not been worse than Mata and Fletcher. By the looks of it, he's covered more distance than the two of them combined. At least he's trying, but it's not easy when you have to cover the whole field. Our collective play is absolutely awful.

Give up please, he could be the worst player on the pitch every game of this season and you would find a way of making him one of the top 3 players

We're playing like we have Scholes, sitting back and waiting for the chance to his the long direct one forward to a runner. We don't have Scholes, there's no springing the trap. We're just conceding ground and letting Southampton advance at will.

I guess this would put 'Giggs as manager' and 'we dont need alot of new players' theories to rest

You just knew moment that team was announce it was going to be a struggle!

Feck me Fergie certainly took the mojo out of a few of our players when he retired, they've been pretty dog shite all season & not looked a patch on their previous form. New Manager is going to to have make numerous changes!

Hes been caught in possession a few times. How many chances does the guy need? Just like moyes is not good enough, neither is he.

We have no right to expect to be winning every game but we shouldn't be playing this bad otherwise.

Nah he's been shite. I'm a huge shinji fan but this is as bad as I've ever seen him. He's not a central midfielder.

Welbeck and Januzaj have been on the ball a bit but their final balls have been poor. Mata and RVP simply haven't had any of the ball.

Yeah, Kagawa has been dreadful.

RVP is caught by offside so many times today. Mata is a midfield. If he hasn't had any of the ball then he needs try harder to looking for the ball to support the forward.

I was thinking the exact same thing during that first half.

Welbeck off, Rooney on. Maybe sub off Januzaj, he looks a bit disheartened and play a midfielder (Carrick is our only option) in his stead.

Something like:

Rooney on...back of the class sunshine

It's pointless to rate players on a day like this. They've all been awful.

Do you really think Mata and Fletcher have been better than Kagawa today?

Clearly an awful performance but I'm not sure it says anything about the strength of the team as a whole. It's an awful setup which was always going to fail. Kagawa and Mata in midfield is utter madness. They're two very good players but they're spending all their time trying to defend with fairly embarrassing results, neither is adept at intercepting the ball or winning it. Whenever we did get the ball our two most creative players were stood a couple of yards away from our defenders. Of course we've been shite.

i agree about the defending bit, but mata has been pretty good regards his attacking role. He is quicker on the ball than kagawa

Yeah Kagawa has been nothing short of awful. I think his first touch was him chesting it to a Southampton player. It's not got any better since.

Been only half watching. Roll on next season. We need to put this disaster to bed.

No, you constantly defending Kagawa no matter what is what's hilarious mate.

Mike Dean an absolute shit-house. That said, we haven't done ourselves any favours.

Kagawa and Mata have been non-existent, on and off the ball. I'd like to see them demanding the ball more. Even if they have to drop really deep.

Our full backs haven't really overlapped. Countless times Januzaj has got the ball and been crowded out by Southampton players. Can't really blame Smalling. He's not a full back. Bring on Valencia.

Fletcher, as good as he has been in the past, has never been a water carrier. Like the commentator said, he lacks composure, and that is one of the most important positions as play more or less starts with the CDM demanding the ball of the centre backs and starting play.

In the second half we need to move the ball quicker. Southampton press very well, probably the best in the league. From defence, we need to move the ball a lot quicker and our full backs need to stretch the back four.

Second half I'd like to see:

De Gea
Valencia - Smalling - Vidic - Evra
Carrick
Kagawa - Mata
Janzuaj - Van Persie - Welbeck

I'm not really bothered with the result, although it'd be obviously nice to win. I just want to see a good footballing performance. On paper, we have the players to do so.

I'd honestly play him out there in CM on his own at 38 years of age, over any of our CM options. They're pathetic, the shocking stats say it all.

We'd be so much better with a top class midfielder in this team.

RVP is caught by offside so many times today. Mata is a midfield. If he hasn't had any of the ball then he needs try harder to looking for the ball to support the forward.

They've both been poor but they've not been dispossessed every time their in possession

Only Vidic seems want to get stuck in, trouble is Dean will probably send him off. Januzaj has 2 on him every time he has the ball as Smalling doesn't get forward. Kagawa is out of position but even the simple stuff you expect to do well he isn't. Mata not in the game. Dean is useless.

Januzaj and Welbeck must swap sides. Shaw is given space time and time and again, we need a winger to track him. Welbeck, on the other hand, has probably had the most time on the ball so far, and hasn't really done the most with it.

Also, the midfielders must position themselves better. They are barely covering any space, and Lallana is having a field day running into it.

Sure, the referee cost us. But we could have conceded a penalty as well.

The worst thing is that we are not creating anything. Our midfielders don't seem to know how to hold onto possession. I feel we are missing Carrick's composure.

@SpeakTruth
I tend to agree. But the younger a player is, the more chance he's got of actually taking in ideas and adapting to different styles. That's why a few of our older players might not get the LVG improvement benefits. I'd say this quality is lacking in our team as well as leadership.

It's pointless to rate players on a day like this. They've all been awful.

Do you really think Mata and Fletcher have been better than Kagawa today?

Depends. Mata has had none of the ball. Kagawa is the one that is supposed to be starting plays whilst Fletcher sits. Kagawa HAS had the ball but has been fecking shite. No ball control, hustled off the ball every time. He looks like he has no awareness of what is happening around him.

Yep, not by much because everyone has been terrible, but by margins they have been. Kagawa wouldn't be made such a scapegoat by people if the likes of you didn't exaggerate many of his performances and defend him when he has been dreadful.

unlucky for the goal but it looks like a team that was put together with the sole purpose of giving some players a final game

midfield isn't working, good news is there is only 45 minutes left of this wretched season

If United lose today, Arsenal will be the only team that has not beaten us in top 10...

No manager is going to make this shower of shite look good right now. I wouldn't read too much into Giggs' credentials from this.

Maybe you're right. However the main argument in favor of keeping Giggs was that he would keep consistency and stability. That's the last thing we need at the moment.

Yes he has. In a half of truly dreadful performances from 1-11, his has been the nadir.
