Liverpool

Of course they are but they've still had a fantastic season and the future looks bright. Yours still looks very dodgy IMO.
Your future has been looking bright for a decade now. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
They may have another great season next year, they might not.

To be honest, football fans aren't really rational. Your biggest rival comes this close to lifting the trophy but misses out mainly cos their captain who's dying to win it slips at a crucial moment, well it's bound to raise a few laughs.

Plus, I'm not so sure about their future. Sure, ours doesn't exactly look great right now though I doubt it'll get much worse, but at the same time there are a lot of challenges for Liverpool to build upon this season.

You have to assume that Rodgers will improve upon that squad. A squad that played very good football and scored a hundred goals. He's going to buy a new defence.

They'll be quite happy to laugh at you for a few months and when they are in the CL and your not.
I'm not sure you know what the "This is our year" statement means, to be fair.

Unless it's been updated to "This is our year to not win the title" in which case they've been right 24 years on the trot.

Best chance in nearly 25 years. Probably have to wait another 25 now. Oh well

It's just a dig, not a serious debate.

I know. I'd be willing to bet we finish above Liverpool next season though. Rodgers can rebuild the defence all he wants but if he continues to adopt a style that leaves them so vulnerable at the back then they're gonna continue to leak goals.

Do you have to assume it? Was it not assumed they'd challenge again after 09? They were "back" then, if I remember correctly.

What nonsense of a post is this, Barnabas?

Take any one year period of Paisley's and compare it to Ferguson in 99, there's only one winner.

Meaningless drivel.
Fergusons 08 year trumps 99 for me. The premiership was much stronger in 08 than 99.

Rodgers has no other ways of playing. Coaches will have learnt have to play against them, and winning will prove a lot harder next season. They had their chance and blew it!

It's going to take another 25 years to come anywhere closer.

Benitez was a good coach...but mentally weak. He bought into/hid behind the scouse 'victims' thinking. If Rodgers does that...most of us will be laughing our arses off. But I think he is a little stronger.

Benitez got you to the same place you are now. What Rodgers is will be determined if he can shake off the obvious weaknesses that were exposed late in the season.

This.
It's one thing people thinking just buying new defenders is going to suddenly win them the league. It's the whole overall style. Would those same defenders have conceded 50 under Mourinho? Of course not.

They had it all in their favour this year, the sensible things to note, being no Europe, which is pretty rare for a big side, no one taking them too seriously and sheer luck in availability of their top boys, with only Suarez's 6 match ban at the start that I can remember. They also had a mad run of good fortune, which stopped dramatically in its tracks with Stevie's slip.

Don't forget they will need a complete rebuild on the back four and the midfield will need strengthening, I would be utterly stunned if Suarez doesn't move on.
Transition is Liverpools future.

the Treble will probably never be repeated by anybody including us....
Inter, bayern and barca have won trebles recently. I feel ferguson had tougher opposition to overcome to win the double in 08 as the teams he faced in the league that year were also the best in Europe as seen by Chelsea getting to the final and pushing united to the final day in the league and also Liverpool getting to the semi final. From 06 to 09 there were three English teams in the semis every year so it showed how strong the league at the time was. That certainly was not the case in 98/99 as united were the only English team to get out of the group stage. For me personally the 07/08 season was a better achievement, but that's just me personally. I don't think anyone could argue the league was better back in 99 than it was in 08 though.
