United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

The more I think about it the more concerned I am about this.

Not that Van Gaal isnt well equipped to deal with this, but still, it would be a damaging spat and its an unnecessary risk. I dont know what Giggs would bring to the role of assistant manager that is worth the risk of it. What is he actually going to learn watching Van Gaal that he hasnt already picked up watching SAF as a senior player with his ear?

He needs to cut his teeth out in the real world, on his own. He doesnt need to be put in the middle of an authoritarian new manager making quite difficult decisions and a squad full of his own friends and colleagues.

Till now I have been ambivalent about Giggs being assistant but Im gravitating towards being actively against it now.
Maybe the getting rid of Rio is a shot across Giggs bows. Don't cross me or the same will happen to you.

It's tomorrow!

No no the Journo asked , are you going to use your day off to go to Manchester and murmer a couple more words there ?

He said, I don't know, ask them, ask Manchester

Only one way to interpret his quotes, I don't want to comment on it !

Anybody annoyed that the V in van isn't capitalised?

Not for me. Rio had come to the end, he's 35 so it made sense. Great player but his time with us had come to an end regardless. Giggsy supposedly being kept on also doesn't sit well with your theory.

Crap! Still reckon it will be tomorrow though to be honest.

Break from his national team duties, Rio has been given his P45 (someone must be making that call other than Woody), and he hasn't said he is not joining which would surely be the easiest thing to say if he wasn't and wanted to not be asked anything about us during his pressers.

It is extraordinary that the club haven't agreed/announced this already. You now have Le Tissier trying to bend Shaw's ear about the "uncertainty" at United etc. I have no doubt that the club would have preferred Ancelotti or Guardiola if they were prepared to the latter's salary (reportedly on nearly three times what Moyes was getting). I'm not sure if Conte is a serious candidate - does he speak the lingo even? Coming back to LVG, who I think is absolutely ideal to get things right over the next three years, the club is probably quite desperate to see Giggs in there too not only as the ultimate successor but also as a fall back option should Louis upset too many folk. Could this be the stumbling block, as having Giggs, with his own ideas and association with the current players, might cause problems for the new manager?

The way things are going with all the English media bombarding him with questions when he's trying to a press conference about the Dutch National team he'll hate United before he even gets here

I doubt anyone with any hope of doing anything with the career will listen to what Le Tissier has to say, "whats that Matt? and end up never having done anything with my career like you?"

It's just not official yet due to his commitment to the Dutch squad.

The Dutch squad have a day-break tomorrow so I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced sometime from now and then.

What is this Dutch squad that have been together since last Wednesday anyway? It must be pretty sparse given that the EPL and Bundesliga only ended this weekend, while La Liga, Serie A, League 1, Eredivise, Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup are all still going on!

Why are we being linked with Conte? His tactics has been proven ineffective in Europe and the guy is only capable of winning at home where Juventus are superior both in terms of money and transfers. FFS he doesn't even sign his own players (the director of football find and sign new players at Juve).

Even Moyes would have won the Serie A with Juventus

Stop embarrassing yourself mate.

That's not true at all, if you look where Juve was before Conte and if you look how he and his staff build their team with not much money, no way Moyes could do that. Napoli spend not less this summer than Juve did in the last seasons and he didn't just won the titles, he won it unbeaten in his first season and now with maybe 102 points, which is impressive.
Also this failing in Europe is not really true, he got them to the QF last year, just lost to an amazing Bayern side. This year was shit in the group stage, but you can't call him a bottler in Europe, he already achieved more in Europe than City has in the last few years.

He wouldn't be my first choice either, but he is an interesting manager and I think he will be a great choice for his next club.

On the contrary, Moyes would be rubbishing the squad and saying what a massive job he was left with ageing players like Pirlo.

I'd take Van Gaal over Conte but Conte is a very good young manager. Still, all the rumours are linking Conte with a big money move to Monaco anyway.

Anybody annoyed that the V in van isn't capitalised?

Ye if you write the name out in full then granted it looks bad.

On the other hand...LvG is pretty cool.

On second thought, It looks bad.

Are you sure the V isn't capitalised???

LVG vs LvG

That's not the point though is it. It's about the uncertainty that can be spread by those chasing the same players as we are. This could easily have been done by now. My real worry is that he's gonna lose patience and go elsewhere unless we get it sorted soon.

First of all the manager does not buy players in Italy. That is done by the director of football with close collaboration with the scouting staff. Juve is a decent club and they always ask the manager's opinion about what he wants and if he rates a player. However ultimately its the club's decision whether they go for a player or not.

Secondly alot has happened during that period. Berlusconi (AC Milan owner) has lost interest in the club and has been riding on one scandal after another. His club is in an internal fight between his 29 year old daughter Barbara Berlusconi who passes her time messing around the club and shagging players (she was Pato's GF) and old guardian Galliani an eccentric freak with a bigger then everyone's attitude. They are currently managed by Seedorf a manager with zero managerial experience who retired swiftly as a player to take the managerial job (its similar to the Phil Neville story with the difference that Seedorf was appointed as a manager and not as a coach).Inter are not fairing better. After winning his toy in 2009-2010, Moratti had to face reality that he cant financially sustain the club for long. This lead to a decline with Moratti selling the majority of his shares to a random 43 year old Indonesian billionaire who barely speaks Italian.

Juventus has built their foundations on solid rock. They now have their own stadium, they are producing a good number of youths (Conte has little to do with it, the likes of Marchisio, Giovinco and Chellini were already there long before Conte came at Juventus) and they are financial superior to the rest. Its basically like seeing Chelsea on an Roman's bad days (Juve is not as rich as Chelsea) competing in the SPL. In Italy Juve are a big squad but in Europe.....they are just a common side.

I don't understand the panic. There is no way all these things are happening at the club without someone telling Woodward that that is what he wants.

Does anyone really think that Woodward is just wondering around, sacking backroom staff, telling players they can leave and putting multi million pound bids in for players without instruction from the next manager? Van Gaal is the one calling the shots in my opinion.

However, if Woody is wondering around the corridors of Old Trafford like that guy in the Scream films waiting for his next victim to cull, then that might be a problem.

I think even Philip Neville can win the Serie A with Juventus. They are a solid side build on solid foundations and surrounded by clubs who are in a right mess.

Even that's a stretch.

I'd have thought comments like these would have been binned after the season we just had.

Really? Italian football must be more fecked than I thought when Conte says that of his club Juventus.
"We need to understand if we have room for improvement and in this respect, I have my doubts," he said. "I believe Juventus are worth to be at least in the top eight in the Champions League and top four in the Europa League.

"But I cannot sell false hope to the fans, as I am a realist and need to point out that it's very difficult to do better than that."

Conte won the Champions League as a player with Juve in 1996 and would like nothing more than to lift again the trophy, this time as a manager.

"I won it as a player and one day I want to win it as a coach," he said. "But if you ask me if it's possible to do this with Juventus, I would say no."

He did say exactly that. For all we know in a couple of days, Conte could announce himself as Manchester United manager. Conte seems unhappy but there are no top jobs open right now except for ours that would be an upgrade on Juventus.

It's a possibility, but from what i have read about LVG, he is a strong character. Giggs would be better off taking a managerial position in the championship in my opinion with a view to him managing us sometime in the future if he proves himself capable

i agree. just fear that if giggs and van gaal clash it could be detrimental

This is my issue with keeping Giggs on as a coach. If there is any danger of the next manager being undermined then Giggs should be let go at the end of the season.

I love Giggs but the club comes first. I doubt he's the type of guy that would cause disharmony just to spite a manager (Keane on the other hand....), I think Moyes went about trying to alienate the senior players at United instead of embracing them, it was a hatchet job gone wrong.

Yea as soon as moyes lost the support of the respected lieutenants in the dressing room he was as good as doomed.

If he only keeps giggs it wont be too bad i suppose but i would rather he didnt.

Another thing is i would make all those let go sign agreements that they wont go on the media slandering the manager and team.
