United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

Maybe, but I recall that it has been said that the role Moyes gave him was pretty symbolical, almost just for PR..
I thought of that just as posted. What actually was his official job description? Does anyone even know? Player-PR-man?

No clue, but I think it was described as "first team player-coach" or something to that effect.

So after a couple of weeks of "imminent announcement" that changed yesterday to "in talks with" and now we're back to "imminent announcement" again?
Well if Giggsy is now in Holland meeting him, there is little doubt it's going to be announced imminently :)

Establishing communication between players and Van Gaal through Giggs is a smart move, also for his management education.

Maybe, but I recall that it has been said that the role Moyes gave him was pretty symbolical, almost just for PR.. Giggs has a lot to offer as long as he knows his role and won't challenge van Gaal on authority. (which I'm confident very few would actually dare to try :D )
Moyes was crap in every department, couldn't manage, couldn't coach ("Defend like Jagielka", "Watch Leon Osman" etc), couldn't identify useful staffer, couldn't talk to the media confidently, couldn't make correct substitution, couldn't sign good players...

Yes.

In all seriousness, how big can the assistant manager job actually be? Ive trawled through the old Phelan thread with a tooth comb and I still dont really understand what they do.

Perhaps as big as the manager wants it to be ? Considering accounts about Van Gaal's managerial approach, it seems that it should be important enough for Giggs to learn something valuable.

Neville and Woods got the news minutes after Rio Ferdinand was informed by Woodward his United career was over in the dressing room at Southampton on Sunday. Neville was approached by Woodward as he emerged from the shower. He wasn’t told he too was finished at Old Trafford but he might as well have been.

Is this an episode of Dream Team?!

What a load of tosh, why are the coaching staff showering after a game?

Rob Beasley suggesting that we're looking at Mourinho.

I really can't that happening but the very very very (etc) small bit of info I was given suggested that in the days after Moyes sacking the board were waiting to see if Mourinho resigned. That looked less likely after their win v Liverpool and the chances of it happening before the season ended became 0. We moved on, but he still (apparently) has a good relationship with the club.

Van Gaal is probably done, the delays will be in making sure the coaching staff is sorted. I think the next announcement will be Giggs officially announcing he has retired as a player.

Moses did a decent job helping to free the Israelites-tbf.

Some of you are sentimental softies. You should all be glad that we're moving away from this needless nepotistic culture at the club.

Only because football has become a business. If anyone still thinks of a football club as a family, then you might as well be accusing people of "needless nepotism" for their mothers.

You can't compare the Fergie era with the new era because while Fergie was in charge, United was shaped according to what Sir Alex regarded right. Now we have an incoming manager who has no experience with the League or our players and club in general, there are so much he needs help with and Giggs is the right man for him

Poor translation from De Telegraff
Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal visited today in Noordwijk. The interim manager of Manchester United spoke with the head coach of the national team next season. The Welsh striker seems to be the first assistant of Van Gaal to go.

Patrick Kluivert is not coming with Van Gaal. The former international image was to be an assistant at Manchester United.

Video Analyst Max Reckers and goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek seem to attract. To England in the wake of Van Gaal Tuesday, it was announced that the contracts of Phil Neville (assistant) and Chris Woods (goalkeeping coach) at United are dissolved.

Van Gaal also include previously worked at Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Orange with Reckers and Angle.

I have my reservations about it to be honest but Ive already aired them and it looks like it is happening so ill reserve judgement and hope for the best.

So all turned out well then. Giggsy to be assistant to Van Gaal. Hopefully Rene will be back too.

What was he doing concerning himself with the plight of the Israelites anyway? If he had left that to Obama and focused his attention on Man United like he was paid to do maybe we'd have had a better season.

Nay! The more focused he was, the more damage he would have caused us. Good ridden

Surely he's brining one more coach with him? That team of staff seems to be small.

I agree. Didn't he split the red sea all by himself? People on here are so easy at ignoring those type of perfomances.

On topic: it can't be confirmed that Ed Woodward joined Giggs in the conversation with Van Gaal. So if it's just Giggs solo meeting him, the Van Gaal signing is a done deal (pretty obious) and they're just finishing the details.

This is the picture by the way, I hope it has not been posted on here before. Hotel Orangerie at the small town Noordwijk, where Van Gaal has a house and where the Dutch national team has gathered before international matches the last 20 years or so.

A figurehead to placate the United fans who didn't want the entire Everton backroom staff in control.

So basically any role which would make him useful to have around will be an upgrade.

There is one thing i like about Giggs as assistant, it is that we have at least one important member of the staff who is available right away and can begin the work for next season.
