Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Well RVP seems to be ok with it despite being well known to be injury-prone.

That said, in the picture, he was just standing next to Van Gaal instead of actually participating in the training

But but, we have so many injury prone players!
:) Intense training is good as long as it is effective. lol
Seriously I think the reason why Fergie is the best manager ever (in my book) is he knows the requirement and always tells his players to go out as enjoy the game. They put in training, the rest comes naturally.

Here's hoping van Gaal is effective

Somewhat concerned Van Gaal won't be doing anything until after the World Cup.

Hope he doesn't 'do a Moyes' and rush coaching, tactical preparation and important transfers.

Just because he's got a good track record as a manager, does not necessarily mean he can wave his hand from afar and make magical things happen.

To do a job properly you actually have to be there.

Think RvP was talking more in terms of mental intensity than physical intensity
Every training session is very intense. He is on our backs every minute. There is no space to relax, he demands full focus,' Van Persie told The Sun.
'We work very hard for a maximum 1.25 hour, never longer. But these 75 minutes are enormously intense.'

He also seems to imply that their training sessions are shorter than normal so its not like he is over exerting the players.

One other worrying aspect of the appointment is that fans seem 100% sure he will succeed as a manager.

He is untested in the English league and there are no guarantees it will be a bed of roses, and will the players be capable of adopting his style?

Players that aren't capable of passing the ball, creating space and keeping possession aren't good enough for Manchester United.

While there are always worries and a managers success can't be guaranteed, a number of top class foreign managers have done well when coming into the PL. Ancelotti won the double in his first season at Chelsea for example. Mourinho set the highest PL points tally at Chelsea, while Wenger instantly improved Arsenal and had won them the PL after a couple of years.

Not that LVG will do this in his first season because we might take a couple of season to get back to where we were - maybe even longer - but I don't think him being untested will cause him to struggle too much. If he's good enough then he should adjust fairly quickly.

I'm not sure he'll be a success. I'm confident we'll come out of his tenure better prepared for success in a the post-Sir Alex era.

I'm worried by this too. Well not worried, but I feel as though some may be setting themselves up for disappointment.
Many are talking as if Sir Alex himself has just come back as manager. As if it's back to business, when actually it's welcome to chapter two of the unknown.

We haven't had the clear-cut best squad in the country for a while now (in my opinion, anyway), and we haven't got the undisputed best manager in the league any more. The playing field is even between us and the rest.

Unless we get it right in the summer, I'm certainly not going to be in the "Will it be Liverpool or Arsenal dropping out of the top four for us?" group, as many (not just on line) seem to be.

Like last summer we were supposed to alleviate these worries with signings, all information so far suggests we will be starting again....again.

We didn't really start last time. Moyes decided he needed a whole season to work out Giggs was getting old, Cleverley wasn't that good and the two central defenders were injury prone. Information that could have been gleaned through watching a couple of episodes of Match of the Day from the season before, but for the man paid £6m a year to manage the club this knowledge was conspicuous by its absence.

Not impressed with him so far. Seems to care more for his national team than us.

Don't even care that it is a repost. Learn it people.

What the hell, I hope they muppets on rawk haven't seen this.

The press are trying to undermine Louis already by claiming we offered the job to Del Bosque first but he wouldn't even discuss financial terms with us.

I don't think anybody thought he was top of our list but I'd say it was only Klopp, Guardiola, Ancelotti ahead of him.

Give me a break. We offered him the job knowing he had a World Cup to go to, managing his home nation no less. You expect him to just ignore them?

Bloody good impression of the Moz there.

Not sure if serious......

Uh oh. :)

Absolutely I do. He should be over here sorting out Woody and getting transfers done rather than trying to win the WC with his home nation. It's a disgrace.

We offered him a job but then he had a job
And heaven knows we're miserable nowwww

Well, there is nothing to stop you from being impatient. Your mindset should be readjusted because we do have a Giggsy taking charge during this period. And to compare Moyes with Van Gaal, I think it is a bit disrespectful for our new manager!

Van Gaal is an ideal candidate to for this club. I expect him to bring Clasie with him.

No idea where else to put this because it sounds like pure nonsense to me.

Big rumour from Toulon Tournament was that #mufc had been in talks with Damian Comolli -no idea if this is right but lots talking about it

In a transfer forum.

The thing i don't get is why many of people keep obsessing with sport directors and stuff. I mean only with City it kind of worked. And then again it's not like it "worked", more like they just did, what they have been doing. And given their financial muscle came on top. Liverpool turned good, only when they returned to a "classic" manager structure. Newcastle is a laughing stock with Kinner appointment. Baldini while bring lots of player has not exactly delivered. You still feel the Spurs were in a much better position under Harry, also before they used to sign Modric, Bale, Walker, Berbatov, so it's not like their recruitment was bad, or even became better.

I personally regard Damian Comolli, Frank Arnesen and the likes as a professional hustlers.

I agree, he's been very hit or miss in the transfer deals he's pulled off at Spurs and Liverpool. Both Bale and Suarez become 2 of the best in the world after he'd already been fired as he bought so much dross too.

No one is "obsessing" over Sporting Directors. They're good at negotiations and are familiar with the lay of the market is all and that can be helpful to a newbie CEO like Woodward. If Comolli can help extract the players Van Gaal wants then why not ? No one if asking for him to decide the targets. He'll just do what he's good at - smoothen the transfers out a bit and liaison with the selling club using his extensive contracts. He did help Tottenham land Bale, Modric, Berbatov above interest from others bigger clubs after all.

He worked for Liverpool. That's all that needs to be said. It'd be like inviting Sammy Lee to be first team coach. He worked for Liverpool. He has no place at United.

Sir Matt Busby was at Liverpool once upon a time.

Not that I'm advocating Comolli, I don't want him here, but the dismissing him because "he worked for Liverpool" is a bit daft.
