Day 8: Japan vs. Greece

Kagawa on the bench??

Surely there is a national outrage by our Japanese friends??

Just accept it

Oh it's not like it couldn't happen. But it's an incredibly harsh and borderline stupid decision to bench Kagawa if he's perfectly fit. Japan quite literally have no wingers. Kagawa(AM) plays on the left and Okazaki(CF) plays on the right. The backup for both of these players are mediocre center forwards and attacking midfielders.

I don't think Zaccheroni ever has benched Kagawa for an important game. Even when completely out of form or slightly injured, Kagawa has started. This is a very drastic time to start experimenting by benching one of the most important players.

All the Kagawa fanboys will be going to bed now after hearing this news.

Dropping Kagawa but keeping Osako ... yeah, that makes sense.

That Greece line-up looks much better than the one in the last game, still think that Greece won't score.

Come on Nippon! Japan to win this 1:0.

This should be a fun match to watch as both teams have nothing to lose but everything to play for.

 Jonathan Pearce is on commentary! Even more reason to stay up and watch!

Some great beards in that Greece side. I think I might cheer for them

I'm trying to sing along to Japan's anthem by following the subtitles. It's not going well.

Don't think either will make it. Colombia are too good and strong for Japan and will win that last game probably. Greece isn't very good either and probably won't win the last game v Ivory Coast.

Robbie Savage will be fuming that some of the Greece players aren't singing their national anthem.

No Kagawa and more importantly Mr Robot Wars commentating. Think I might skip this one.

All the more reason to stay up and watch him fail as a commentator again! I'd love goal-line technology to be needed again tonight!

Moyes ruined Kagawa and Hernandez. The plan was to help England surely, but it hasn't turned out as planned.

Please play well tonight Japan. Greece aren't going to so it's all down to you.

Good atmosphere. Plenty of Japanese fans over there in Brazil.

think it a bit unfair blaming moyes for this, pretty much used them the same way fergie did.

Not really. As great as the differences between United´s football (in both years actually) and Kagawa´s ideal system (high movement and pace focused game), in the end Kagawa had two years to adapt to that and could not impose himself often enough to make a case for himself. It is also his decision to stick around so long despite never reaching his personal top form at the Old Trafford. I somehow doubt that he was chained there and that Woodward & Co. would have been unwilling to listen to offers after the Mata transfer if he would have voiced his wish to transfer.
