Get back to Manchester Louis, there are things to be done!
So how do people rate LVG these days? Is he a better manager than Guardiola/Mourinho/Wenger/Ancelotti? Would you have preferred another manager taking over United?
Definitely better than Wenger but not better than the other three. Still, I think that he was the most suitable manager for United. We need a revolution and there is no other better manager for it than Van Gaal.
The honest answer is i don't know.He as not done anything yet.
Champions league final, Mourinho was driving his bus as per usual and parked it well.
Louis van Gaal's first season, not sure about Mourinho, LvG says his players need time to grasp his ideas and he almost went out in the group stages but did well to get to the final.
He left behind Bayern Munich, Mourinho inter, that's the difference. Louis builds for the long term but Mourinho short term.
It will be interesting to see if Louis can find a solution to the parked bus.
Louis van Gaal left behind FC Barcelona and then FC Bayern. The beauty is even if he isn't as good a manager as those that he will still be very successful during his tenure and then likely leave behind an incredibly solid foundation for the next man to build on.
Would have preferred Mourinho, Guardiola, Ancelotti or Klopp if I'm being honest. But they are all committed to their current jobs so bringing them in was never an option I'm afraid. Still a bit puzzled that we didn't approach Guardiola or Jose when Fergie retired and instead went for Moyes. Anyway that's water under the bridge now. Looking forward I hope and wish Klopp manages United one day. His tactics are perfectly synchronous with United's in the 90s and mid 2000s to 2008 and he offers the right amount of loco to keep us entertained.
That said I'm perfectly content with Louis. He's one of the pre-eminent tacticians in football history with Chapman, Happel, Guttman, Herrera, Michels, Menotti, Lobanovsky or Sacchi and his ethos of promoting reserve/ academy players will be ideal in the long term. That Ajax team of mid 90s is still the benchmark for a team built around young players (class of '92 and La Masia's recent upturn aside). Also can offer exactly the aura of totalitarian authority, tactical expertise, experience and ruthlessness United needs at this point in time to steady the ship a bit. His appointment will be highly beneficial for the continual development of Januzaj, Wilson, Pereira etc.
Concerning Wenger, Arsenal fans might not agree but Van Gaal is superior to their manager on almost all accounts - tactically, coaching up the kids, team building and in terms of winning major titles. Despite being out of the game for a couple of seasons, managing the national side and not having the full support of upper management - Van Gaal has won more trophies and built better teams. He's also won every single European trophy and the Intercontinental Cup - something Wenger has failed to achieve in his almost more than 2 decades of managership at Monaco and Arsenal. Only think Wenger has going in his favour is the relative stability he has to offer compared to van Gaal.
It's definitely debatable. Ancelotti has a pretty poor record in terms of winning leagues, especially considering the clubs he's managed.
Mourinho has had more success in a shorter period but he's moved to clubs who were near enough favourites and spent far more than anyone around them. Plus, Van Gaal has brought through more talent at each club he has been at than Mou in his entire career, and has generally had his teams playing a more desirable style of football.
It depends what angle you want to take, and what you personally think should be priority. I'm just throwing things out there, it's not necessarily whats most important for me.
I agree he's the best man for the job right now. Whether he's better than others is completely subjective. He's in that bracket of managers which is the main thing.
he said to dutch media that he had krul in mind with the way the game was going, hence why he didn use up all his subs. it was fine margins too because they subbed him on in the final seconds of extra time
Is anyone else worried that the further Holland go in this World Cup the more it's going to impact United's start to the season? I can feel a slow start coming on....

Having said that we have got some decent fixtures this time round, not like last year, so we really should do better.
Im sure he believed in Krul's penalty-stopping abilities but Im sure the move was principally a psychological one - the Costa Rica team wont have known what was going on or exactly what Krul's record was and it was more important that they feared he was a penalty specialist than that he actually was one.

Aye, that's the way I would go. I think the 3-5-2 suits our players the best at the moment, mostly - as the article says - the wingbacks and the central front three of Mata/Rooney/Van Persie.
We would need at least one more centre back though, currently we just don't have the numbers back there to play that over a season.
We have easy fixtures thankfully, I'd expect at least 6 wins from opening 7 games.
He's an experienced manager and even our young players have experience, I'm sure there won't be much of an introduction period required.

Apparently LvG wants a 'big' pre-season game at Old Trafford so we're due to play Valencia on the 12th of August.
Would be grand if true, would mean I can get to a home game earlier than QPR in September as well.
It seems we're playing always our pre-season match at Old Trafford against a spanish club.......2x FC Sevilla and Valencia a couple of years ago

Think there needs to be more pace/width to stretch the play. I suppose Shaw and Valencia/Rafael do provide that, but the lack of pace from Mata and Rooney would be a problem sometimes I think. Cruyff and Guardiola have both said,as far as I remember, that 3-4-3 is the best formation to play but it's hard to get the right players. Need a lot of very complete footballers, but 3-4-3 creates the most triangles for keeping the ball.
Thoughts on Carrick being pushed back to a centre back? I think he's done well there before - his positioning and passing (especially when given more time at CB) are top notch. I think he struggles mainly in the air as a back, but when we have more possession next season that shouldn't be a major problem.

Didn't Mourinho work for him as an assistant manager at Barcelona? While Guardiola was captain? One could argue part of their success and possible training is thanks to him.
Ah yes, right you are, hmmm we should play Athletico or someone like that, Sevilla are a good side but not a stern test. Although I didnt see us getting battered by Sevilla to be fair, it was a sobering experience. Wasnt it Rios testimonial.
