Saw this in Squawa:

The Netherlands have attempted 432 long balls over the course of this World Cup, 131 more than any other nation (Brazil, 301).

I wonder if that was ever a feature of any of his teams or it's just because the Netherlands lack good midfielders.

That's one of the reasons I'm disappointed they aren't in the final, they would have had a shot at exposing Germany's high line if they were able to contain them.

I thought LVG was way too cautious against Argentina and Costa Rica, today they were brilliant they could have had more goals today, and loved their style of play, one more thing what has been completely ignored by people how good defensively his side has been its 4 clean sheets in the row now, Chile, Costa Rica, Argentina and Brazil. Soo excited for next season.

What kind of parade/presentation are they having in Holland for 3rd place? It sounds ridiculous! Give us our manager now ffs!

He can be happy with how he's done at this world cup. Can't wait for him to get to work for us now. From the sounds of it he can't either.

All 23 players featured, Cillessen subbed off twice.

LvG is such a great fun to watch. Glad he's ours now.

Delighted for him to have done so well and prove on the biggest stage of all his skills.

Arriving at Old Trafford full of self confidence and bringing a totally re-energised Van Persie with him.

I feel very confident that the post SAF dip was just for one season, Very interesting days ahead for us.

Over here in Abu Dhabi "Bein sport TV" they are calling for him to be manager of the tournament:
  • Praised the harmony in the dressing room
  • Took an average young team to third
  • Didn't lose a game all tournament
  • Got them playing very disciplined defensive unit
  • Left a good young team that will take this experience and do better in the future.
Future is bright. The future is orange.

Incidentally, they are slating the shite out of David Luiz.

Holland have been the second best team at this World Cup

this.

unlucky not to be in the final too imo. better than argentina that day i thought. anyway 3rd place with this young and inexperienced team (RVP, robben, kuyt, sneidjer and de jong aside), that's a marvelous achievement.

Except the man responsible for the above has now fecked off.

LVG just said he will go to United on wednesday. Pundit asks him isnt he tired, is he human?

Van Gaal said he only met two people at theclub and he can not wait to meet pthe people at the club, work with young players and he can not wait. So he doesn't feel tired about the prospect at all.

Robben's just said van Gaal told him there is always a place for him at United

But he also said van Gaal knows he is happy where he is and that it's not an option. The way he said it he seems to have had to tell him several times heh...

Also said van Gaal was the man who made him important at Bayern and he was the one who brought his world class form and consistency out in him.
Concluded with saying he has probably been his best and most influential manager.

Was hoping van Gaal would go full troll and put Vorm on the wing or something, ah well.

Hiddink is a top manager but it seems as if this achievement was unique to van Gaal. He took the horse to water and made that bitch swallow. Hiddink may not be able to get as much out of the same group of players. Just the squad harmony issue alone seems to be a once in a blue moon thing.

I think Plugsy's post referred to the future of Dutch Football being bright, it might take a sharp downturn because the man responsible for the accomplishments is on his way out.
Ah I see. Fair enough. He's done a great job and I'm excited for his arrival.

I don't expect miracles, just a clear vision and plan to be implemented.

Class move to put Vorm in.

Probably getting there Wednesday instead of Tuesday to go talk to one of his targets in person (I jest)
