Im not a big fan of Hiddink. Great manager for teams that are just plain bad to take them to a reasonable achievement. But always fails to achieve good things with top squads in the past 2 decades.

His achievement to 4th in 1998 was just...you pretty much had the best squad in the world together with France & Brazil. It would have been a bad achievement to go out before. And with South Korea... we all know how retarded the referee's let them go through to the semi's.

Beside that, his Russia achievement was good. But its not like no other trainer could have achieved that with the "underdog" squad. We could pretty much praise the shit out of the coach from Costa Rica then.

What is amazing about this is now the world knows about players that were relatively unknown before a ball was kicked, I mean honestly think back to before the WC. it almost seems crazy to think that everyone thought this team would not even exit the group let alone win it and go unbeaten in open play. Stunning display, incredible tactics and hugely promising.

It was certainly seen as one of the worst Dutch sides iirc. He's definitely overachieved, the difference of playing for a manager they believe in i suppose.

I think his biggest challenge is grabbing some of the players and telling them who's boss. I hope players like Rooney have been watching the WC and know this guy means business. I can imagine all the players are raring to learn his regime and get into his tactics. The unique thing bout having relative unknowns is they don't come with huge egos mea ING they are willing to learn and listen. Some of our squad believe the sun shines out of their arses, it could have a huge impact on the squad harmony.

He's been there and done it. The difference of a guy like him coming in, who's won the CL, won league titles, taken the Dutch to the WC semis, and getting the players on board compared to Moyes who was always up against it is huge.
 
Maybe he was speaking metaphorically. Two could also mean very few.. Must've certainly met both the Glazer boys Joel and Avram plus Woody, Giggs and maybe Jim Lawlor..
 
Be interested to see what kind of football we play. Wasn't exactly Brazil 70 watching holland. While holland had limitations our own central defence and midfield doesn't look like it will be tearing up teams!

Louis Van Gaal has confirmed he will start working with the Manchester United squad at Carrington on Wednesday.

Van Gaal will return to Europe with the rest of the Holland squad on Sunday, 24 hours after the 3-0 win over Brazil which sealed third place at the World Cup.

But he is in no mood to take a long break despite his busy schedule in Brazil and will only have a couple of days off before heading for Manchester in midweek.

The Dutchman signed a three-year deal with United before the tournament to take over from David Moyes, who lasted less than one season at Old Trafford - they ended last season in seventh place in the Premier League and missed out on European football completely.

Van Gaal has since, with the help of members of United's backroom staff, overseen a couple of high-profile signings in Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw and he is expected to remain busy on the transfer front.

United have been linked with Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria and Van Gaal is keen to get down to business on and off the pitch.

"That is no problem for me, I don't need a holiday. It's great to have such an exciting challenge," he said after the win in Brasilia.

"To work daily with young people is something that I don't need time off to rest for.

"I'm looking forward to it. I've only met two people from the daily management at the club - the chief scout and the chief executive officer. And I've met two of the owners. It's time that I get to know more people at the club."

Van Gaal will spend two days at United's training complex before heading to the United States, where his new side is scheduled to play at least four matches.

His first game in charge comes against the LA Galaxy on July 23 and is followed by matches against European giants AS Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid - they could have a fifth match if reaching the final of the eight-team tournament which concludes in Miami on August 4.

I love how he's jumping straight into the job, what a guy.

If Moyes had just come back from the World Cup he'd probably insist on Giggs taking charge until September so he could enjoy a lengthy holiday.

What a ridiculous comment.

Moyes took over on July 1st last season in his official capacity. It was well documented that he'd been working behind the scenes preparing for his new role once Everton's season was done, too.

Yeah, it was real evident how hard he was working preparing for his new role considering all we had to show for our summer planning was Maroune Fellaini.

I dont think he needs a holiday tbh. He's been an international manager for 2 years so he's had plenty of days off. Besides its not like managers have to get on the pitch and play.

It's more the mental side of things. He's just finished a very high pressure tournament and heading into another high pressure job at one of the biggest clubs in the world. A little break would help him.

He'll get a decent break at Christmas time when Woody is adding the finishing touches to the Strootman contract and we're 10 points clear at the top of the table :nervous:
