Managed/rotated properly that team and cover would walk to third.

My own personal slightly biased opinion.

You rate the players as they were under SAF. Just because LVG is a better manager does not mean they will suddenly be back to SAF standards, he was a one off.

Kagawa Mata, and the entire defence have everything still to prove for United, and RVP has to show last season and the summer isnt just a blip. Shaw and Herrera need time to bed in. I think this where managers dont get enough tim with the fans, because a lot of fans think ' buy good players and just fit them in seemlessly as they were playing for their other teams. You move to Manchester, whole different ball game. There was no certainly Vidal would be an instant success either, however you do really need a player like him.

That defence does not have any certainties in it. None of them except Shaw come in off a good season and Shaw is very young. We need at least one defender, maybe 2. We then need either a huge step up from one of our current midfielders or a new one. Kagawa would have to start playing. I think that team would finish 5th based on a rough view of other squads.

And some of those players weren't much good under Fergie and might be better under LVG, like Kagawa. Plus Fergie never had Mata, Januzaj or Shaw. You have to look at the quality of the players on paper, because we don't know how they'll perform under LVG, and on paper that's a very good side.

That is speculation, Rogers has them playing out of their skin...true they possibly had their best season in a long time last season but there is no reason why they cannot achieve 4th again.
Other than they have gone for depth over quality in their purchases and lost their main goal scorer (yet to be replaced).

They were on a high last year and you saw what happened when things started going wrong.

Half the English team was Scousers who supposed to be on a high, they got found out against better opposition. I fully expect them to fall away.

Okay so Conte leaves Juve apparently because of the Vidal transfer talk but when Juve are unveiling the new manager, answer a question by saying Vidal is not for sale everyone believes them?

How many times in the past have we seen this happen? okay maybe not the manager part but the part about a player not being for sale.

Lets just wait and see what happens. Its only been the first official day for LvG. We need to give it time. Especially if there is transfer talk about Vidal. Im defo not an ITK person but have a good feeling something will happen and it will be back in the papers that the transfer is still on, but im no journo so don't bash folks.

Meh. Juve are trying to set up the public perception that they were powerless to stop a player departing who insisted* on leaving.

*And even that part won't be the whole truth...which is probably that Juve would rather cash in on the older player of the two in-demand midfielders.

That side would do well, I think. Fit van Persie, which United didn't really have last season and Mata/Herrera getting a full pre-season to bed in and everything. I think Valencia is probably a good bet to start, unless United sign another winger but I think some width in necessary or Kagawa/Mata/Januzaj will end up within 5 yards of each other every attack.

Trust no one. Everyone's got something to sell, even if it's just smoke.

Another odd story appears. This time from Mundo Deportivo quoting sources in Italy: Juve are expected to bid for Marcos Rojo, the Sporting Lisbon leftback. Price tag? €16m allegedly.

Now what's happening to the Evra deal and who refilled Juve's piggy bank?
Plays centre half for Lisbon, no?

For goodness sake, can we stop making these potential formations in response to transfer rumours?

Regardless of whether or not Vidal's coming, I am sure more players are on the way to fill some key positions.

LVG will be an immense improvement on Moyes, from a motivation and tactic point of view. You are also ignoring that many of the United players listed were injured for a large part of last season. Rafael and Jones did not play that much, Mata had half a season, RVP was out a lot. So YES, same players, more consistent side and a better manager puts us in a far better position than last year. Add to that we have a better midfield player in Herrera and we wont have a tired Paddy and it is looking quite rosy. Maybe not challenging for the title, but certainly top 3-4.

Crikey people, shall we not get too depressed? It's July 16th, no? Plenty of time to get in fresh faces and they'll be players (probably Anderson, Fletcher etc) that will leave too.

We're going to be fine :)
i think there is far more chance of vidal coming(which seems basically none) then Fletcher leaving. he would stuggle to pass a medical at another club, has fairly high wages and a contract with us that promises ambassador/coaching opportunities one he has retired,

he's going no where.

Liverpool is now out of the picture in my opinion. That leaves us and Arsenal fighting for 3rd place. I think we overtake them.
Are you on something?

Their solid pairing of Mert and Kosc vs our Jones and Evans?

Ramsey, Khedira, Flamini, Wilshere and Arteta vs our bunch of midfield muppets ?

Sanchez, Walcott, Ozil, Cazorla, Ox, Podolski...

Ok, we've got RVP, Mata and Rooney. But come on!!

Well according to the press they have briefed he's not a target.

well shouldn't they have stated that weeks ago? Sounds like they couldn't get him and now are back tracking.

Whatever the situation, you'd wonder who'll we'll end up with. We seem completely incapable these days of signing genuinely world class players in their prime these days, either we go for youth with potential or players coming up the wrong side of 30's!

We've been promised a busy summer and as happy as I am with Herrera & Shaw, its still absolutely nowhere near good enough and we are at least 3 more players short of catching up with the likes of City, Chelsea & dare I say it now Arsenal. Arsenal are really having a great summer already, Sanchez and from the looks of it now Khedera. We fell behind the last few years and now it looks like we may well fall further.

@Blair like Vidal said I'm calm. Moratta basically said Vidal has to choose. And from Vidal's comments himself it seems he's certainly interested

nothing confirmed that conte leaving has anything to do with vidal, that was just pure speculation.
seems more likely that he left because he left because he wants the italy job.

Be interested in your view of Chelsea, since it is your team, and we (particularly me) are all biased.

Could you put your best 11 from last season on paper, then put best 11 based on your current purchase so that we can see the two sides. It would then be interesting to see if you have really gained strength in the first 11. You have undoubtedly done it in squad terms, I am just not getting the change from a very good team to a very strong team.

Carrick shouldnt start, Evans and Jones as a CB pairing is a wildcard.
Januzaj is great but cant do it alone, Kagawa isnt a winger.

EVERY OTHER TOP SIDE has gotten in specialist reinforcements... just look at City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Take off the rose tinted glasses...that side will struggle to make 4th.

Nothing rose tinted about it.

Weve added the best english lb around, have a wee belter of a deep lying creative centre mid on top of the wealth of very top level attacking talent money can buy, excluding Messi and Judas Priest.

I just read your opening line again,"Carrick shouldnt start",have a word with yourself.

Short memories eh,attributed to a season under David Moyes.

Jesus wept.

But just to add my tinted specs,i reckon we could challenge under van Gaal with the squad as it is,you know him being an actual football manager and all.

I agree with the assessment that LVG will have the side performing at a high level but shouldn't we give him the best possible chance of winning the title from the get go?
I see NO reason we cannot win the League title next year with LVG and a great squad but we do not have a squad that compares to the rest of the top 3 as yet. Lets face it, for the last few seasons City's side has been better than ours in all departments except ST and GK and its time to even things up a bit.

@Blair like Vidal said I'm calm. Moratta basically said Vidal has to choose. And from Vidal's comments himself it seems he's certainly interested
Those comments were apparently manipulated. He in no way referred to Man United for example in that "I am already at a big club in Juventus, if this option with Man United falls through." quote... the Manchester United part was snuck in by cnutish twitter vaginas.

You can be calm. Like Vidal. When we sign De Jong and Vermaelen.

Probably the 4th best on paper now Suarez has gone. the defence is still pretty poor.

So, cocks back in then?
It's off until Van Gaal says ''we have many targets'' tomorrow and then some account called ''Secret Transfer Agent'' says a deal is done, then the wankfest will be back.

Can anyone actually translate the interviews of Vidal and Moratta in the literal word to word sense?

Did Vidal really say " Happy to stay at Juventus if United deal falls through" or did he just say he was happy at Juve when asked if he would move to United?

Did Moratta actually say "he is going nowhere" or "The player has to chose"?

Because just a word here and there can make a lot of difference and we all are always dependent on the manipulative journos for the translation of quotes?

Probably the 4th best on paper now Suarez has gone. the defence is still pretty poor.
I think we will just get 4th. We aren't as good as City Chelsea or arsenal at the minute and both London club have done better than us so far this summer.

I think it's pointless predicting where we will finish after last season. We have no idea how good we are now Moyes has gone. We could end up being way up there in the title race or struggling to get top 4 again.

Was this intended for me?

Strange comment though seeing as we clearly have strengthened in four key first 11 areas.

------Cech------
Azpilicueta----Cahill---Terry---- Ivanovic
Ramires----Matic
Hazard----------Willian-------Schurrle/ Oscar
Eto'o

Now
-------Courtious-------
Azpilicueta-----Cahill-----Terry-----Luis
Fabregas-----Matic
Hazard-----Willian----Schurrle/Oscar
Costa/Lukaku

Schurrle had a fantastic world cup, better than Oscars probably so thats good depth we have there too, Torres can be used for cup games.

Would like another CB to complete the lot, but would take the signing of Pogba to go with maybe a 3 man midfield.

@Blair like Vidal said I'm calm. Moratta basically said Vidal has to choose. And from Vidal's comments himself it seems he's certainly interested

From all Vidal's quotes it seems like he wouldnt mind leaving Juve and MUFC isnt a bad option for him.
He had many chances to say he was staying or he wasnt interested in a transfer but everything he said seems to indicate he is ok with the move.

Conte's departure (on the 2nd day of training) said to me Vidal accepted the offer and/or Juve wouldnt/couldnt reinvest the money in a manner he found approving.

Conte's quote is “You can’t sit down to dinner at the Ritz with €10,” . I think he saw the writing on the wall with the sale of Vidal and decided to jump ship. Vidal has even less of a reason to stay at Juve IMO.

Nothing has changed.

What's funny is that no one will ask Van Gaal about Vidal tomorrow because they'll be too scared of his reaction.

We'll be in the dark tomorrow again.
