Vermalen makes sense at a reasonable price since he is proven in the PL and can provide cover at LB. I still have some hope that LvG can turn Smalling into a good defender, I think the raw material is there.
That would be a really poor deal. Smalling has alot of potential and he's already a better defender than Vermaelen. If we're going for a ball playing CB, i would much rather sign De Vrij.
Agreed, if we are going to use Smalling as currency to buy another defender Id want it to be someone top notch and with a reliable injury record.
Hope we get to see him tear into some of the hacks during his first press conference. There wasn't but ordinarily there would be so he asked United to instead give the money to charity rather than pocket it.
The way I read it was the money the club saved by not having to pay an agent fee was requested by Louis to be given to charity. It's a nice story anyway.

This is guesswork but Seems from what is being reporterd Albert Stuivenberg and Marcel Bout will be his Meulensteen's as in incharge of trainings' etc.. While Giggs is more a link to the players and doing assistant admin/managerial stuff as Phelan used too.

A lot of questions on that rolling about the staff again. Are these reporters thick? Do they think that LvG and Giggsy haven't discussed his role within the setup? They're acting like its the first time they've met each other.
Is very interesting, I just finished a book called 'O, Louis', best book ever written on Van Gaal (not a biography, it's an analys of a very well known dutch journo who used to be pretty close to LVG, lots of people who know LVG get their say, it's really accurate and beautifuly written, both positves and negatives are mentioned).
In the book it says that Louis told his old story of 'not having an agent, just some friends who help him out'. And that he was pretty naive in who he let him help with negotiations.
Turns out that at Bayern, his so called friend demanded a fee, and when Karl Heinz Rumminige explained to LVG that his friend got a % of the transfer, LVG refused to believe that.
Anyway long story short, the so called good friend did get a fee from Bayern for doing LVG negotiations, lied to LVG about it, LVG refused to believe it until Bayern showed him the contract, and now they're not friends anymore. He apparently demanded that his friend gave the 100.000 euro fee to a charity, but it never happened.
And now the story is, he has another friend who did the negotiations and does gives the fee to charity? Very interesting.
