They were talking to some Spanish "expert" on Talksport last week and they said the reason that Di Maria rejected us was because his sponsors have demanded that he play with a Champions League club.

I find that hard to believe, Isn't Di Maria an Adidas sponsored player?
Given the money sponsors seem to be throwing at us this season, and the fact the 7 and 11 shirts are available I don't find that comment very credible.

You would think sponsors would encourage a move to Man Utd even if we were in the Championship due to our global fan base.

Oh well, different opinions and all that. I'd rather we kept Cleverley as I think with some pressure taken off him and with a new regime he could become a decent squad player. In truth, none of us have a clue who van Gaal will like and who he won't.

I have a feeling that the pressure to perform is going to be at an all time high this season. The sad fact for Mr. Cleverley, and pretty much everyone on that list above is, you need to perform at the highest level here. It doesn't matter, to me at least, the circumstances behind their individual shortcomings. It's imperative that United break back into the top 4 ASAP. The time for patience with the lot is well and truly past.

We definitely should be in for Griezmann. If Nani/Valencia/Young go he is a young, affordable player who will only get better.

I agree and he has a release clause!

Apparently Graham Hunter has said on 5live that we're in for Di Maria. He's rejected PSG as he doesn't fancy France and has also rejected United due to no CL.

I think this theme is a load of baws. It means we aren't in for him. I don't accept one season without CL would influence an opportunity to become even more filthy rich than they already are. Money talks.

Does anyone genuinely believe because of one bad season that Liverpool have suddenly become a bigger attraction than us because they have an extra 6 mid week games next season?

Especially since he's just won it. If he was in his mid-30's and only had a few shots left at winning it, sure, I could see that being a valid reason.

The thing is about this champions league stuff is, right now, joining Liverpool, Arsenal or United is kinda like playing Russian Roulette.
We may not be in it this year, but its definitely not guaranteed one of them two will be in it after next year also

I don't like to be that guy but yes that's what's wrong with football, sickening.

Do Madrid even have a Youth Academy ? They are the biggest culprit's for everything that's wrong with the modern day game
and the only reason they don't get as much stick as Chelsea,City and PSG etc is because they have history behind them and I
went from loving to loathing them,

There like that kid at school who always has to have the best of everything and wave it in everyone's face, I mean if report's
are true there clearing out Di Maria and Isco to make way for a good player that's had a good tournament just to have
him so no one else can, they really really don't need James,

Sorry shouldn't be saying this in the Tweet Thread, another thread on another day

Players would be so short-sighted if they chose Pool over us, but most of them are thick as shit anyway - so nothing would surprise me at all..
You're not the first person to say this, may I ask why it's so 'short-sighted' to pick Liverpool over us? At the moment I'd say the 2 squads are fairly even matched, both good but inferior to City, Chelsea and Arsenal while they have a manager who has established himself at the club and we have a manager who will probably be here 2 or 3 years and they're in the top competition in Europe whereas we'll likely be arranging a few midweek friendlies to recoup some money.

Madrid actually have an exceptional youth academy setup.. They have so many talented youngsters coming through. Jese Rodriguez is definitely one to watch, while Alvaro Morata, Dani Carvajal, Soldado, Negredo, Arbeloa are a few that have come through the academy ranks.
Most leave the club on deals with buy back clauses when they're young, Real then bring them back in once they become they've finished article (Carvajal, perfect example).. At least that has been the case in the Galacticos era

They actually have a very good academy and many talented players playing in La Liga originate from there, its just a shame they don't really break through into the first team anymore since the Galactico era

According to CheGiaevara on Twitter Cadena Deporte isn't a media worth listening to.

Pretty simple really Rory. Last season was a blip - Pool have had a blip for 20 odd years. Suarez is gone now too.

United have a much bigger world-wide appeal & resources to bring better players in than Pool have too. We have LvG who is in the Fergie mould & that's a massive draw for players who want to win major trophies..

Also, Pool fans rob their own players houses while they're off playing :smirk:
