Our new gaffer is very likeable, I didn't expect him to be this much likeable

I just remembered he could have gone to spurs. I am so happy we have a top manager that the players like. I hope we chose to listen to Van Gaal over decisions rather then sponsors, I don't want a fall out

On field success needs to win out. If these tours jeopardise that, something needs to change. Van Gaal will do his best work on the training ground, the more time he spends there, the better.

This Woodward guy liked a straight talking manager, didn't he? This is straight forward about the commercial intrests.

Nothing wrong with what Louis said, he doesn't like the commercial side, but its not his job to do all that anyway. Woodward handles that side of things, and well, it is America and its incredibly commercial over there.

Can you imagine Moyes coming in and ripping up the ground and saying

""Maybe it is too big a club," he opined. "Not only in a sporting sense but also commercially. We have to do a lot of things that normally I don't allow. I have to adapt to this big club but I think also this big club has to adapt to Louis van Gaal. I hope we can have some balance to that."

He hadn't the balls and he has gone now. Where have all the Moyes in folkes gone? Are they still unhappy he was sacked?

Lets all just forget that guy (who shall remain nameless) was here...

The Moyes folks? Ian Holloway is still around hahah

I'm loving this vibe which is the complete opposite of last summer.

Just from looking at the photos, you know that LVG is the boss, a manager that somebody as experienced and decorated as Giggs will respect and ask for advice. Compare that to Moyes who looked like he was a random man that found his way onto our training ground and needed to be taken away by security. None of the players looked like they were taking him seriously.

LvG reiterated in his presser that he wants to see get to know the players he has first before making any decisions on how many players need to be brought in. I think Ed is working on several ends for some preliminary targets and LvG will make the final decision on whether or not to bid for those targets based on his evaluation of the current players. This could mean that it would take a few weeks for us to see some action in the transfer window.

I don't know why media is portraying that Van Gaal is 'unhappy' with our tours. His point is simple. These tours are not always beneficial to players (which is true) but given commercial side of big clubs it is a necessity so he has to adapt. Second point he made was he told club that next summer he doesn't want a long tour to far-off places and said he got assurance on it. So, I don't seem him 'unhappy' but he is just voicing his opinion because he has balls to do so.
To think of it, we are not the only club doing it. The tourney we are participating in, also includes Real Madrid, City, Liverpool, Inter, Roma etc and all are staying in US for same duration. So, a middle way need to be found where such tours don't affect players but we leverage on our worldwide fan base commercially.

I really like his comments.

You want a manager who is pretty determined that the football itself should take priority. We have other people whose job it is to worry about the business side, so I think this is how you reach a healthy balance that is ultimately best for both parts.

That's quality!

Edit: Just thinking, if he's like that in training, whats he gonna be like when we score a late winner against Liverpool or when we win a trophy?

He is gonna stand atop the Sir Alex Ferguson stand, drop his kecks and give his "Who is the best in..." speech.

feck knows when we win a trophy.

I suppose the question I would love to put to LVG is does he think that the commercial commitments of the club has hindered club preparation. He wouldn't say it if he didn't think it was a hindrance.

Agreed and this is where many United fans have ignored the cost to the first team preparation in relation to commercial success.

Remember moyes saying we need 5 world class signings to be challenging. fecking hell what change!
Moyes inherited a champion team and still had money to buy, whereas LvG inherited a team which has been broken by Moyes for a period of 10 months, and in the interim, we have lost Evra, Vida, Rio, Giggsy, Carrick, and a few broken confidence. His comments about our team was staggering. Moyes can make any team look and play medicore. Give him CR7 and Messi and he will do his best to knock them off the world ranking. Sorry but its true. He is not a confident man himself.

Agreed.

I also love the fact that HE is the boss, even Woodward has stated this. It's like having a Fergie type back at the helm, someone who knows what they are doing and what they want to achieve.

It's so different from when Moyes was in charge.

I thought he said "Do you understand what I'm saying? Otherwise he could not reach the goal". Seemed more like he was talking about a through ball than some dissent from Herrera.
Yeah that's what is sounded like to me as well.

I hope I am not alone being an optimist here.... Granted, LvG is a man of steel and is very opinionated of course. But to envisage the commercial issue will become a cause for future conflict will be underestimating the character of LvG and the club itself.

Why on earth the parties wouldn't be able to resolve any differences and each party trying to accommodate each other's needs in the name of thriving for better I don't know.... They will compromise. It is a learning process for LvG as well. The club is very experienced and one which knows what it is best for the club and we have been fine with these commercial commitment for years. LvG needs to adapt and the club will try to tailor things for his needs, what conflicts?

In time the PR people in the club will ensure LvG will talk to the media on a need-to-know basis. Any differences would be resolved behind closed door. Its all good folks. :)

LvG to Herrera: "Do you undestand what I'm saying!? Otherwise you can go in goal" :nervous:

Nah, he said "Do you understand what I am Saying? Otherwise, he could not reach the goal"

 Whipped!!!

Glad van gaal took took the stand that he did on this and the way the club seem to have reacted. Commercial interests are important but they can't hamper the preparations of the players to be ready for the season of football.

Some people posted earlier about that being where our money for big transfers would come from. I'd counter that by saying that the clubs history of success is a bigger reason for that money coming in. Football has to take precedence. And these commercial aspects have to be maximised around it.

That's what he said.

That's what I heard. Even van Gaal would be crazy to get a midfield player to go in goal.

And yet he managed to alienate Giggsy, Rio, Vida, Fletcher... Sigh

That's what he said.
I have a wee feeling that at the end of next season, LvG will come to terms with the fact that it is okay to go on summer tour to prepare for the new season. This year is a traditional period wherein he just came out of a hectic World Cup and he hardly had one day rest and he met most of the players for the first time. Of course he would prefer to stay home and make notes of every player, instead of flying and preparing teams for games. But this is a transitional period. If by the end of next season, he still needs the summer to familiarise his players to prepare for the new season, I will be very disappointed! He is better than that.

Very promising stuff from the training videos, Van Gaal really looks like he knows what he's doing.

And we're actually passing the ball! PASSING THE BALL!

I like this picture. It is as if Giggs was saying, "We did our summer tour every year and we are quite used to that", and LvG said "don't you tell the press this!"... Giggsy obviously is very used to the commercial side of the club. Under Sir Alex, things always went seamlessly. Differences always resolved behind closed doors. LvG will learn. :)
