Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Can't read anything into that. Phil Jones doesn't need anybody, whether they have a fancy Dutch (or Welsh) name or not, to instruct him. He knows. Everything. He's just playing along, trying to make these so-called coaches appear more or less competent. It's the sort of thing Jesus did when he interacted with mortals - you know, keeping up the illusion that he ain't the Messiah, that sort of thing.

 On a roll tonight good sir.

I'll add my vote to the 'Don't want Giggs to succeed LVG' group. Even if he's assistant manager for 3-4 years, it's not the same as being the main man calling the shots.

Been said a million times but if Giggs wants the job he may pack his shit and go and actually get himself some credentials. We are not some kind of finishing school.

Get Klopp or Pep dialled in to step in after and leave this romantic notion out of the equation.

Zlatan on Pep. Hehe. I kind of like Zlatan, I must say. I don't dislike Pep, before you accuse me of doing so - I don't at all. But I can easily imagine that many managers out there get into both pseudo philosopher mode (Brenton, anyone?) and pure, hackneyed Rockne mode - in the dressing room.

I think we're lucky, all things said and done, that we don't get to hear the bollocks they spout at half time.

Ferguson was one too.

That team talk by Giggs reminded me of someone trying to impersonate a manager really. If I was one of those players sat there I'd have switched off completely.

It would be a lovely, sentimental appointment and all but I'm convinced that it would go terribly. Unfortunately, I think it's nailed on. It seems like it's a mistake that we're destined to make.

Ferguson was one too.

Nah. Fergie was too old for that sort of bollocks. Rockne style speeches - quite possible. But those are actually pretty good, given the nature of the thing. Sheer, quasi-psychological drivel, though? Doubt it. Can't see Fergie doing that.

Still, I'm sure quasi-psychological drivel works on footballers - so why not.

When we were losing at half time in the CL final in 1999, Fergie said at half time, to the players, that the cup would be inches away from them. That, if they lost, they could never touch it and not to dare come back into the dressing room unless they've given 100%.

I can imagine Giggs in a similar situation..."Guys, come on. Give the fans something to cheer about out there"

Not the same thing.

I love Giggs but, he can manage elsewhere first before he even thinks about managing here

That wasn't Fergie's kind of communication at all. Don't know what "Rockne style" is supposed to mean though.

This was probably quite typical of his team talks. I say typical, as that's the impression I got from what I remember of the full program this clip's taken from.

With all the  being posted for Mata and Herrera (rightfully, tbf), I think LvG deserves the most praise. The difference in our passing and pressing is immense. He has been here for no more than a week and our football is looking a lot better already. So excited for this season!!

That's not genius, it's antagonism. Successful leaders praise in public and criticize in private. You can tell from the body language that neither Rooney nor Jones likes being made to look like a fool or an amateur when the cameras are rolling, and who can blame them?

If you do not have the back bone for that - how will you have it in a match when things are going wrong?

Müller was once asked after such a scene when van Gaal really got loud on him and he just said that van Gaal knows that he can take it and that in the next moments he praises him again. It is no Kindergarten.

Well there you have it. Nearly the first pre season game completed and Van Gaal confirms Moyes was a reactionary, spineless manager. Or if being kind, wasn't suited to our club.

Cheers Louis. Like night and day the difference in play.

Still early days and it's only the LA Galaxy but I'm loving our short passing and transition play. Very excited about the coming season.

Van Gaal just said we already have the mentality and he is just giving us structure. What a manager.

One week with these players and he makes them look like they have been playing one touch quick football for their whole lives. It's crazy that's by far the best I've seen us play in years.

Van Gaal just said we already have the mentality and he is just giving us structure. What a manager.
Perhaps that was the reason why Moyes and the players didn't get along. His small club mentality versus the winning mentality installed in the players by Fergie.

In such a short space of time he's already got the players playing quick, positive and attractive football. Can't wait for RVP and Adnan to join up with the squad.

May have only been an MLS team, but I have a feeling we'd have probably squeaked out a 2-1 win or something under Moyes.

Van Gaal just said we already have the mentality and he is just giving us structure. What a manager.

I think Moyes did say something very similar i.e. the players are winners and dedicated. He did "try" to give us structure as well.

I'm pretty sure this guy is Admiral Akbar from Return of the Jedi.

Important thing is van Gaal also has that mentality. Moyes not so much.

Moyes biggest problem was that he looked up to the players. It should be the other way round, like LVG. Players are eager to hear what LVG says or instructs. That doesnt happen with Moyes, unfortunately for him.

Sounds like a couple of legitimate quotes of which players may be sold.

We need only two number 10. Three at the most. So, who's going to get the boot?
Think Hernandez and Kagawa will end up being sold. It is a bit ridiculous though, having Mata, Kagawa, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Van Persie and then if need be Januzaj and Herrera all competing for 2 spots pretty much. No point to it.

One of: Mata. Herrera. Kagawa. Rooney.

Anyone else I'm missing as our number 10? Cleverley? Young?
Doubt he considers Rooney as a traditional no.10 despite his shirt number. He's almost definitely talking about Kagawa, Mata, Fellaini and perhaps Cleverley.

  1. I suggest you read Mockney's post then with the videos of their respective motivational abilities. Giggs personality has always projected the dull and rather flat person he shows in that video. It's not even a question of being rousing and charismatic, he's spitting out platitudes like a sofa pundit on a saturday morning.. to a team of professionals. It's very poor stuff.

I don't believe any of it. Sorry

Well this is our team after one week with LVG. I cannot wait to see it in four weeks when he have had a full pre-season under our belts.

I never expected him to use the 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 (whatever you want to call it) with us but I am glad he has. I really like the look of it.
