Or not be stunned when a manager who says he wants to assess his squad before spending millions of pounds might actually want to watch his players play a few games before replacing them.

Who is stunned? also LvG is a top manager, I doubt a few meaningless friendlies out in the US will change much of what her has already decided about most of them, he's not some small time mope like Moyes.

Improving the back 3 will come before improving midfield right now, it's a higher priority.

Quite. Though this highwire act we seem to be doing has the potential to go horribly wrong if we're not careful. Of the top, say 20 midfielders in the world we don't have a realistic shot at that many. And IF we've already passed, or missed out on 3 of them (Fabregas, Kroos and Vidal) then it's pretty difficult to see too many other players of a similar quality who will want to join, or be let go by their clubs, particularly at a late stage in the window.* So even though I agree that LVG must be given the players he wants, to fit the system he wants to play, it's not that unreasonable for people to be a bit concerned.

*Though I'm now wondering whether the important part of Woodward's interview was when he said they were in a position to change plans late in the window if LVG said he wanted a player.

So either none of the journalist s know anything. Cause even Mitten said we are after Vidal just few days ago and now he suddenly thinks we are not interested.

Or we are signing no one. :(

It's the latter

Never know a club lie to its fans like ours

Its like spoiled kids having a strop they didn't get their shiny new toy at Christmas.

No. It's like fans believing we need to buy quality players to shore up weaknesses in key areas of the team to enable us to compete with rivals who are recruiting top players to bolster sides that finished well ahead of us last season.

When the head honcho effuses about unlimited budgets and his determination to bring the best players in world football to Old Trafford, it's hardly surprising that fans are disappointed when that turns out to be empty talk.

I think the non CL has impacted on us, footballers can be phenominally stupid and as long as there is CL it doesn't matter if the league you play in is rubbish.

All these tiny reasons why players won't be leaving. Seriously, if we are as big as Woodward makes out to be then any player should be available to us if you pay up...especially players like Strootman. Saying Roma have ''no need to sell'' shouldn't mean a move won't be happening. I'm sure Spurs had no need to sell Bale but Real are a huge club who paid up.

Both are top priority, midfield should've been anyway and that's without Carrick getting injured.
At least in midfield we have depth although from average players like Cleverley and Fellaini , if one of our CBs gets injured we will end up playing U21 defenders with no real first team experience.

Won't be long till the "we are happy with the squad we have" line comes out...

It doesn't matter whether Roma need to sell or not or what Garcia comes out with. If we want him and go in for him there's a good chance he may want the move, which would be the key factor. If he really did want the move, no doubt for me that it'd happen.

Moyes had an absolute stinker in not getting Strootman. Said it at the time that he was exactly what we needed and he's proving that time and time again. Roma got him for around about 13-14 fecking million. Just let that sink in.

After Vermaelen you could be right, & not alot anyone can do about it, but they won't be able to pull the trick they have pulled this year again if it all goes tits up again next season.

If you want to believe the rumours though we were interested in Strootman and in Ander last summer.

What we ended up with was a calamity, named Fellaini and thats hard to stomach but at least Moyes was looking at players who would have been good signings.

Unfortunately for us he chose the wrong one instead of signing the 2 that would now give us a top central midfield.

I doubted Strootman and didn't think missing out on Ander would have changed our season significantly, I was wrong on both counts too

Feck sake, we gonna sign de Jong at the last minutes. Last summer is repeating again.

Because he is unavailable.
Cannot understand why people think Hummels would want to leave Dortmund, challenging Munich for the league, CL football and a nice lifestyle. If we get back in CL then we might have a chance. LvG is right, we finished 7th and we need to realise that. We need to buy players who are good enough to get us back there and fit the managers style, then the really big names might come. I wouldn't bet on it though, they didn't in the past. It might have to be a case of signing the Herrera type players, who do a good job for us. I will be happy for watching a better style of football after the dross of last season.

I find it very weird that club has not only revelaed the fee but also the 50% sell on clause.. We usually go with the standard "for an undisclosed" fee.

I don't get why there's all this panic over transfer when we've already added 2 top players to our team, Mata will start his first full season with us and our manager has already stated that he wants to look at what he has for another 3 or 4 weeks before he adds or sells anyone else. He already commented about our lack of defenders so for me that's already a statement of intent that we're looking at something there. Believing every paper or twitter rumor and then being disappointed about it is your fault, don't try to blame it on the club.

It was an easy signing for him, he thought he knew him. The other two would have been a risk and Moyes is very obviously not a risk taker.

So Liverpool are close to sign Lovren (£20m), Origi (£9,8m) and Remy (£8m), having already signed Lallana (£25m), Lambert (£4m), Markovic (£20m) and Can (£10m). Congratulations, you've done a Spurs 2013 there - £97m for a decent CB & striker, one very good prospect (Markovic) and loads of squad players
