His people knew we were vulnerable me had to pay over the odds to get paid. Big agents fees were asked for which we were prepared to pay for a statement signing (convincing Shaw to sign for us ahead of club he supports, no matter what it cost, was considered that) but put Chelsea off.

Surely we aren't paying him that much ...

Has a squad ever been gutted as much as Southampton? I think they're going down.

I was debating making a Southampton lineup thread .

But anyway, they've still got Clyne, Taggart (sp?) to take over from Shaw, and probably other youth prospects they can bring in to replace the others.

Not against a top team with a proper game plan it wouldn't. Their defence is their weak point and a second striker was required too, they might fix the latter if benzema doesn't leave but the former problem is one that Perez won't care about.

It was more of a joke to be honest and yes real have had a ropey defence for years.

They will need to bring in at least 8 players into their team by the end of this window if they want to survive. I can't believe they've just thrown everything away when they looked like a really good, improving team.

You really do have to feel for Southampton fans. Must be fecking horrible seeing their whole squad just gutted like this.

To think, we moan about the non signings of the Vidal's of this world, puts it in a bit of perspective I guess.

Shaw will be our and england''s first choice left back this season so wages probably no different to many of his teammates who are also regulars in both dressing rooms.

Yep, his wage is relative to his squad status and not his age.

Thats a terrible attitude to have :nono: Bite
You said the idea that we should sign players who really want to play for the club is brain dead. I'd say them wanting to play for the club is a prerequisite to getting them to sign for the club, no?

What are the other options? Forcing them to sign under duress? Tricking them?

"You want to play for Manchester United?"

"Erm, nah, not really"

"Tough shit, get that red shirt on you, you twat".

Unless Chambers is getting loaned back I don't see the point in him leaving. He'll only be back up to Debuchy.

Nah, he's more than good enough to push Debuchy for his spot. He'll be first choice for 'em by the end of the season.

I think we should go for Sneijderlin if he's up for sale. Yes, we won't let him write his name properly.

I take it you don't rate him then.

At least you allowed me my opinion, before telling me how wrong it is.

We'll see.

I hate Cleverley. No point pretending i have any faith in him when i dont man. No-one who loves football has a frigging clue what he does for United & also the England team. He was dropped from the WC squad for good reason - same as Carrick. But Carrick had a blip last season - Clevz23TM is a blip!

As i said, i respect your opinion & everyone else's too, but if i disagree with it i will. You do the same Nev - we all do, apart from some kiss-asses like Still ill of course :p

I'd be delighted if anyone can tell me what Tom Cleverley brings to the team - apart from softening up a hard pitch?!

They've only sold Shaw and Lallana so far (and Lambert). They have signed a couple of forward players too.

Lovren and a young RB might leave too.
Far from ideal, but hardly the end of the world.

They'll be getting a lot of money and if they spend some of it, they should be fine.

Maybe if we just leave Fellaini in a basket outside St. Mary's they'll take pity on him and raise him as one of their own.

It will need a big ass basket but yeah let's do it. Although they will probably shun him and try to flush him down the loo.

Fifa would want to put a stop to thin ice FFP clubs are loaning players with an option to buy, its just giving a big feck you to Fifa.

I'll tell you what he brings to the team god damn it...

Exactly, its not like they're leaving for free plus they've about 4-5 brilliant prospects coming though.

He keeps us ticking good old Timid Tom.

Do you not remember his amazing performances in 2011 with Anderson? It was like Keane and Scholes in their pomp some will have you believe on here.
