Aye, I think he's gettable too.

A midfielder right now and Strootman in January would be pretty good. Would've ideally liked to see two midfielders but think if we can get Strootman in January, then it'll be worth the wait.

De Jong now, strootman in January.

Carvalho now, Strootman January?

If we really do have all that money that Ed keeps banging on about, and if Vidal is a definite no-go, then let's get Carvalho. I think he has the potential to be a more refined De Jong. Yeah he'll be overpriced but our midfield needs it.

He seems another one we don't want. Could have closed that deal before the world cup if we wanted.

Midfielder I want us to sign most is Khedira. Getting him now and Strootman later would be great.
As unsexy as the transfer is, he could be a great foil to Herrera. Hard working, strong in the tackle and decent enough in possession. Let Herrera / Mata do the fancy stuff, we need a workhorse now like Fletcher in his prime.

Rafael injured again? Its so frustrating for both us and him.. I'm actually a big fan, I used hate him like everyone else but know he's a likable player and can be the best in the league if he stays injury free... chances of that though...

Eh?

I think you'll struggle to get him in January. Next summer is when the deal will probably happen, unless you throw an excessive amount of money at Roma or they have a disastrous season.

Hopefully we take our time on this one, last thing we would want is a signing like Aquilani on our hands. ;)

Rather wait for him to recuperate and show some of his form before buying him next summer or January if he recovers by then.

Agree he's an instant upgrade on what we had by quite a bit.

It makes sense that he'll have a look. A player who didn't fit the previous regime/style of play/system might fit what he wants from his team, and adapt to a different role. Even if one player we didn't expect to find a place in his system fits in then that's one less player to replace.

Fair. But a month long assessment period is surprising. As I said, that takes us perilously close to the end of the window, and that's when you end up with overpriced guff.

Based on LvG's Strootman comments, I think it's likely we won't be getting another midfielder until January at the earliest. If that's the case, we're writing off a title challenge imo, which is a shame because without European football I think we could have a good chance with the right signings.

LvG is a good manager, but he's not going to transform our average midfielders, many of whom we're average under Fergie, and we know how good he was!

What part of Van Gaals comments made you think he wants to sign him in January?

I wish they would broadcast that. He could be the one person who could put Jose in his place.
I wouldn't expect LvG to mention it when he sees Mourinho. Jamie Jackson asked that question trying to stir a bit of shit but van Gaal said he doesn't need to answer it and pretty much palmed it off.

They are very good friends and even outside football regularly stay in touch. I doubt he is thinking about putting Jose in his place or anything. Might just be about not to give media a topic to create controversy and in-turn not hamper a young boy's career with unnecessary pressure.

Strootman must be one of LVG worst kept secrets much like Fellaini but I think we are all agreed the Strootman of old would be a brilliant addition to the team. There are absolutely no guarantees that he returns even half the player he was and won't be crashing out every two games. If this is LVG master plan and to ignore and pull the plug on Vidal then I'd be worried for us in the middle yet again.

Most people recover from Ligament injuries perfectly fine.

He talked about waiting to see how he recovers...

He said, its difficult to know how players come back after a long injury, or something to that effect - which to me says its 50/50. Of course he likes him, but doesnt who if he will be the same player, so can you wait on a 50/50?

It was an ACL injury though. A lot of people lose athleticism which can only hurt him. To what extent? We don't know yet, but hopefully he performs like he did before the injury.

Hmmmm wasn't it ACL that basically finished Owens career, made Anderson so shit, ruined Young early on. Could be wrong but had always thought it's one of the 50/50 injuries as to whether they will be the same player again.

I mean look at Aguero, it remains to be seen if he'll ever be the same player again, but from what I know the original injury that took him out was not an acl but still the principal.

Normal people can do, but I think that's more to not having surgery straight away and injuries taking a long time to heal.

Pro's these days get surgery literally the next few days, and are getting top class physio straight away. Sure some people never get back 100%, But the majority still have their full pace available after good training.

Aguero just has that type of body, his muscles are highly strung which is why he is so quick and strong, but they go ping much easier than they should do. Some people will go forever and not pull any muscles, some people are constantly on and off the injury table.

It's a shame since despite him being a money grabbing City twat he's an amazing player. I honestly think his best says are behind him.

Just seen the LvG quotes, one thing came my mind. He said Clev and Blackett will play play on both halves but no one else. I think he wants to see if Tom or Tyler can make it here so that we don't have to buy a new midfielder or defender, or if they are good enough to be covers for those positions. Clev has the ability so i believe in him, we will see what happens with Blackett.

Beside that I'm very happy about the Strootman quotes, i really like him as a player and if we buy him, we won't only have a great, young midfield in Herrera and Strootman but we got our future captain in Strootman too. Him and LvG loves each other that's for sure.

Yep, but my guess is Valencia is someone Van Gaal would like to play in his position from time to time.

I think that the RWB in a 5-man defence might be the ideal position for Antonio if we indeed stick with the 532/352 tactic. Think that it'll suit him just as much if not more than when he plays as a winger.

I think a winger who can defend well is far better suited to the wing back role than a fullback whos good getting forward.

Exactly, how did no one get the joke? I said the same thing about Evra on reddit and people got it  .. but then again looking back on it they're a website of trolls.. hmmm.

Somebody hand this man a shovel.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Aren't they, by definition the same thing though? Break it down:

Fullback you described = Good at defending and good at getting forward.
Winger you described = Good at defending and good at getting forward.
Two wingbacks you described = Good at defending and good at getting forward.
