Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Not just the weather and the altitude ,the pitch was not true. The lob from the Roma player would have went in , but the bounce was exaggerated and went well over the bar. Not to keen on the naming players ,that never ends well.

When we got van Gaal we signed up for the whole package, both his good and bad sides. He is brutally honest and if you make a mistake he will point it out even if you do everything else right.

It was unnecessarily bluntness imo, seeing as it was just a friendly. But oh well. LVG, amazing direct approach, bluntess, get United back in the top four, bla bla bla

We'll need to get used to it as he is a very blunt character to begin with and, unlike any of out previous managers, he is speaking in a foreign language and so may inadvertently sound more cutting than intended. Still, I agree it was not necessary in this context.

My local team Blackpool has a wage cap of 10k a week and I bet we couldn't afford a player like Powell. He will be on more I bet.
So your basis is wage cap in Blackpool? That is very weird. Blackpool would not afford Powell, because they would not be able to pay transfer fee.
While information about salaries is hard to get by and usually unconfirmed, most of the outlets that mention Nick's salary do put it in 5K category. And as i've said it's important what sort of salary he did have at Crewe, because he is only on his first MU-contract. And he most definitely had below 1K. Which would make 10K-20K a very huge, improbable raise.

No, he's not. As we have repeatedly told you, he's on just less than £5k per week. That's not guesswork, it's a matter of public knowledge. Google it.

You can 'bet' that he's on more. You can also 'bet' that the sun won't rise tomorrow.

Calm it kid. "repeatedly told you",you condescending bellend. Someone made ONE comment and I replied.

Amos probably paniced a bit. I think Louis should have said it but also pointed out Amos's good save onto the post but it doesn't matter. The lad doesn't need anyone telling him it's ok. It's not as if he was on the end of the penalty area. I think if he was more alert it wouldn't be a problem. He'll learn from it.

I never said I was right did I? I said I thought he was on more then 5k, someone posted a fact and that was that. Tit.

Wow, who shat in your All Bran?

Ducker's new article on LVG's obsessiveness, control and discipline:

www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/sport/football/Premiership/article1439189.ece

HARD work, order and discipline have been core values in Louis van Gaal’s life. He grew up the youngest of nine at 64 Galileiplantsoen in Watergraafsmeer, a middle-class district of Amsterdam, where each child in the Van Gaal household was allocated a chore. The future Manchester United manager would usually be expected to peel stacks of potatoes.

While he was Ajax coach he would become annoyed if players did not put used towels in the laundry baskets provided, to the extent that anyone who failed to perform this menial task would have to take the towels home with them and wash them.

Even as a 14-year-old his attention to detail was marked. Whereas classmates would

Damien posted a summary for Ducker's article in the twitter thread :) :

Summary after the first two paragraphs which anyone can view:
  • When he was 14, he spent his time alone studying with the coach Rinus Michels.
  • Spent no time imposing his methods on the squad when he came to Carrington 11 days ago.
  • In LA, United were staying at the Beverly Wilshere hotel. van Gaal wasn't happy with the squad having to make a 25-mile trip four times a day between hotel and the place where he was running twice-daily training sessions, so he had the club book rooms at the Holiday Inn closer to the stadium. Players could eat then sleep at hotel after morning sessions before training in afternoon.
  • Asked for same in Washington DC. His logic is that he is determined to maximise every minute with his squad on the inner workings of a technically challenging system. He was angry when training was delayed the day before the match in LA because the team bus was caught up in rush hour traffic.
  • Under Mancini, City's players complained they didn't spend enough time on training ground working on 352 formation he briefly introduced with poor results in his last season there. LVG doesn't want the same to happen at United.
  • At open training in Denver, LVG had all coaches in matching outfits right down to each wearing black Nike boots (Giggs' boot sponsor Reebok might not have been impressed). He also got staff to go to Denver in advance to ensure dining arrangements were in order.
  • LVG insists that senior squad each lunch with coach and academy players at 1pm to give some discipline and team spirit through the club.
  • United chef has been run off feet in America catering to LVG's dietary stipulations for the squad. When becoming Holland coach in 2012, he had a floor of the hotel where the Dutch squad stayed refurbished to create a big meeting room (he called it safe haven) with table tennis, card tables and flat-screen tvs.
  • Holland team bus was similarly designed before World Cup.
  • Most impressed by Evans from the CBs, whose passing and distribution he considers superior to Jones and Smalling.
  • LVG wants one/two additional ball-playing centre-backs (one must be left-footed).
  • Vermaelen fits the bill and Hummels is another leading target.
  • Though LVG likes players to use both feet, he insists on passing drills that balls are hit to individual's preferred foot (Precision, pace, control, awareness the buzzwords).
A lot of it is pretty much the same as what was said in Jamie Jackson's article, but there's some new things.

I really am excited for this season to start. I have never been this excited in 15 years of following United for a season to start. Its just LVG and his preparation seem to be on a different planet when compared to the other coaches. And he actually wants to play possession football, something I have been craving to happen at United for years. And correct me if I am wrong, I could already see the difference in the first two games in terms of us passing the ball and holding possession. Obviously it is going to take more work but this season I don't think I will as scared going away to Pool, City or Chelsea.

He has taken control, which is exactly what he was hired for. The thing about the training ground being 25 minutes from the hotel is just awful planning from whoever organised this tour.

The comments aren't for Amos, who as you say is likely to leave. They're for the other players, showing that he won't tolerate rubbish.

Exactly.

Unnecessary? Just a friendly?

Its all preparation for the season mate, cant let any sloppiness creep in.

I am loving me some LVG. Breath of fresh air. Imagining today's pampered footballers going from the Four Seasons to a Holiday Inn.

This is his reply when asked if he wants to win these friendlies.

There are no friendly matches for van Gaal, only games to win or to lose.

Good for him, sounds like bolstering. Friendlies remain friendlies and are taking less seriously, competitive matches are where it's at, no matter what he says.

Let me clarify, I meant the public criticism was unnecessary, not the criticism himself. Fergie most of the time knew how to shield his players in public and give them a bollocking in private, that's the way to go, public "bluntness" like this serves no purpose except to impress people on here with his "straight talking" it seems.

Did you watch the interview? Van Gaal was laughing when he said he could've run 50 yards in 4 seconds, there was no malice or anger in his words. The manager made a joke to lighten the mood, clearly to take some of the sting out of the fact Amos had been lobbed from 60 yards. Of course he wasn't happy about it but he showed more aggression towards the referee for giving Roma the late penalty.

Yeah he seemed quite jovial considering he's straight talking but with a little humour particularly about Amos! I didn't find him scathing or abrasive towards our players in any way!

If some of us think that he's being critical now then I can't wait to see what's said when he is actually being critical! I think he was actually quite understanding of the conditions and I've seen the interview a few times now. I can't understand the furore!
It's refreshing to have a manager with high standards!

Ann Arbor is 40-50 miles away from the Detroit hotel they're staying in. That will probably cause some problems as well.

No. This is Van Gaal. He's even more blunt in Dutch. You better start getting used to it. He's the most blunt person in football. (....well, in front of the camera's anyway. Off camera and in private he's supposed to be a very nice guy.)

Exactly. This is the kind of attitude we need afer a comical season. LvG himself said he wants the team to win so everyone' can build the confidence in the new system. I do agree we shouldn't read these friendly matches to much but I think he's serious and anyone treats it lightly should pack his bag. Once the season starts, there's no room for error .

Exactly that's why we hired him it's all part and parcel of the LVG experience!
