You have no idea of what happened before and after that isolated clip from that documentary. Using it to judge whether Giggsy has any tactical nous is ridiculous.

Really?

Be honest here, if that had happened in the "Being Liverpool" documentary, you and many other United fans would have been all over it. Laughing our tits off and calling Rodgers out on it.

And Liverpool fans would have correctly retorted pretty much what Gopher has said.

As am I :p .....But yes, point accepted

I can only base it on what I seen in that programme and the way we played in them 4 games. It was grim at times

Southampton and Sunderland were quite poor I guess, Hull and Norwich were good.

For what it is worth I think he will have a couple of seasons under van Gaal and then have a bash at the Wales job.

Is it van Gaal or just Manchester United? Duncan Castles really does have an agenda going on here. The only articles he writes are ways in how van Gaal will fail, how top players don't want to come to Manchester United, why 3-5-2 sucks and why the other teams are better than us.

The 442 with fast wingers?

Yeah, I get that. I understand that completely....But you've seen the Giggsy documentary yes?

Giggs, P Nev, Scholes, Butt, all in a room discussing tactics....Clueless!!
"I like Valenica's pace"

And these were/are expected to carry on the "United way".....It makes me wonder what went on half the time

I thought that was a parody or something at first, someone asked "is Wilson any good in the hole or what" as well. Everyone was clueless

I know one thing, I have not been this excited about the new season for quite a while. Last year was like being cheated on weekend after weekend, I started to dread the weekend hangover.

Showed his presser on SSN. Some mildly interesting stuff. Indicated he likes the 352 as, amongst other things, makes it easier to play Rooney, RVP and Mata in the same team ( although he still lists Hernandez, Welbeck as options).

Also indicates he is not completely set on the formation. Still evaluating whether his existing squad can make it work.
Will not buy players for the sake of it.
If he will play 433 then he may need reinforcement on the wing: "then I need to buy another kind of player".

Interview on SSN right now, van Gaal saying he won't make any panic buys and won't hurry to spend and end up buying players just for the sake of it. Says he's still looking for a leader in the team.

He says he wants to be able to use the same players he uses in a 3-5-2, in a 4-3-3 but to do that he needs to buy better specialists on the wings as he phrased it.

He'll need to look very hard then

"If we play 433 we'll need more specialist attacking players on the wing - and for that I'll have to buy new players"

What a blunt way to kick Nani, Valencia and Young in the bollocks in one sentence. :D

That's worrying. I hope Giggs learns a whole lot under van Gaal, or else I'm not sure I'd trust him with the job.

Di Maria would really be his perfect signing then - Can play on the wing, in a three man midfield and even up front in his 3-5-2.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes into the season with what he has and promotes 3 or 4 U21 players he likes, he did say it could take up to 2 years to get us back to the top back when he was first appointed.

I really do believe Pearson, Keane, Wilson and Varela have what it takes to step up and have a similar impact as Januzaj. van Gaal will know this more than anyone.

What I like about LvG is that he learns from his mistakes, instead of being stubborn and stick to the same ideas all the time. Not all managers do this. The failures he had in his second stint in Barca and his first period as the NT coach of Netherlands all changed his perspectives. That's what I like to see, and this is also the reason I am trusting him with the job.

Does that mean maybe he ideally wants to play 4-3-3 then, but realises he can't?

If he wants to play that system buy him the players to do it. Get the best out of the guy.

Wouldn't have thought Rooney would be pushing the idea of playing him out wide.

I can picture Rooney being the Martin Prince of the squad right now...

"Oh Boss I can play everywhere. Pick me, pick me! I'm much better then any of that lot"
"Boss, I just parked your car and installed some killer alloys on to make your day even better. I got them from a mate, back home"

It's possible. Maybe he likes what he sees from Cleverkey, M Keane, James etc. and thinks he doesnt need to buy after all.
I wouldn't agree, but he knows a but more than I do...

But I don't think this particular interview ruled out more transfers.

Di Maria would be his ideal signing, no surprise with his comments about a specialist winger/attacker because anyone who has followed his career will tell you he loves his wide players.

It is odd how I keep hearing quotes from LVG saying the squad is unbalanced and it is when we have potentially 7 strikers/wide players and only 3 defenders and 4 midfielders and yet today we need a specialist wide player if we go 4-3-3 - regardless of the formation we're so stupidly thin on the ground in defence and midfield it needs sorting now (if its not too late this window already)
