Little subtlety and not particularly funny for the most part. However, it does nail the truth that US TV news programmes changed for the worse when they became slaves to ratings by showing car chases and the like.

Man I actually enjoyed the first half of that movie. The second half though was probably the worst I've seen in any comedy. The end fight scene was a straight up abomination.
The Machine

I was not expecting to like this, I thought it was excellent
if you like Sci-Fi thriller type films you will not be disappointed.
I thought that Caity Lotz' performance was particularly excellent, I feel she acted a human in a robotic body very well. Her mannerisms were very machine like with the added flair of humanity. The facial expressions she uses are very mechanical but still show feeling, which is how I imagine a machine learning how to become more human would act.

Yes, the fight at the end was awful.
And Burgundy's other innovation was always tell viewers what they want to hear, like Fox news does now.
...........it was a bit easier to predict that now, I think.
I enjoyed it, I don't know why cos I agree on your remarks, but I like the character and even the parts with the shark and the blindness which were really stupid got a chuckle out of me.
Nowhere near as good as the first one though, it's a shame they waited this long and didn't make something a bit better.
Oh I watched Thor 2 : The Dark World last night, quite enjoyed it as far as blockbusters/Marvel films go. One thing that did annoy me though was that a lot of things went unexplained, I mean I don't need this type of thing to be crystal clear and rational and everything, but just throwing important plot elements at us without slightly explaining them is a bit too much. I love the scenes in Asgard, I already did in the first one and it was again the case in this one. Also, I think Tom Hiddlestone is great as Loki, despite not being an overly impressive villain by traditional standards, Hiddlestone's performance manages to make him quite threatening.
The Expendables 3
Being a HUGE lovers of 80s/90s action films, I was super excited to watch this but unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. The first in the series was a little too serious for it's own good but I looked past that as it was a great experience seeing some of my favourite action stars in one movie. The second one was for me easily the best as it took itself more lightly and mixed in great humour as well as action. This one just felt like it cashed in. The PG-13 rating meant a lot of the scenes seemed subdued. They bring in a host of young recruits but with the possible exception of Ronda Rousy, I can't see why they picked the actors that they did. The film took it self waaaay to seriously, and why the hell did Jet Li (the man that made his name with hand-to-hand combat) only shoot a few round from a machine gun? I did like the inclusion of Snipes and his line that referenced the tax evasion but beyond that moment, the film was flat. And I know this isn't supposed to be a manual on filmmaking but the editing and continuity was beyond a joke, as if they hired a college student to work on the film. Bitterly disappointed 4/10
Hercules
Didn't expect much but it was actually pretty good. The Rock was as charismatic as ever and the film blended in great action with a half decent plot and some amazing cinematography and effects. The film was paced well and was overall an enjoyable experience 7/10
Transcendence
Was bored to shits watching this mess of a film. The stakes never seemed very high, despite the directors best efforts to do so. The tension never got going and all the characters seemed lacklustre. They probably needed a few more drafts of the script before filming because it's a nice idea that seemed to be executed poorly 3/10
The Purge: Anarchy
I wasn't a great fan of the first one but this was miles better. The characters were slightly more interesting and you can feel the chaos around the state which the concept tries to portray so hard. They also threw in some political moments to keep you thinking, which was a nice touch. Also, seeing Frank Grillo do his Punisher impersonation was pretty cool. I still think there's a better film out there in this series, and maybe we will see it in the next sequel but this was definitely pretty fun to watch 7/10

Transcendence was a huge dissapointment wasn't it, had the makings of a decent film but it was incredibly boring by the halfway point.

Expendables 3 - It may have been good, it may have been bad, I'm not quite sure what was going on to be completely honest because everyone was talking in such a low, inaudible growly mumble it was like listening to Barry White have sex with a cow underwater.
Harrison Ford doesn't seem to be able to act anymore. I'm not sure he's even aware he's in films these days, he seems completely bewildered by everything.
Also Arnie & Sly have had so much bad work done they're capable of about two and a half expressions between them, all of which look like constantly surprised boiled potatoes.

The Amazing Spider Man 2: It was an okay movie. I liked the chemistry between Garfield and Stone. They were good in it and to me AG is a much better spider man than TM. But I wasn't impressed with the fight scenes in the end as in they were too short and Spider Man seemed to dispatch of both villains pretty easily. Emma was again better than Kirsten Dunst. 6/10.
Divergent: Was really bored so decided to give a go. MEH. A young teen would have enjoyed it more. I like Shailene Woodley but the movie was too long and it took too long to set up the story. A sequel is announced already. Maybe that pick things up faster since everything has been explained in the first movie. 4/10
Transformers 2: Age of Extinction: Well its a Michael Bay film so what do you expect? Explosions, explosions and more explosions. They had a Bugatti Veyron and a Pagani Zonda ffs in the film. Even the Fast and the Furious series, which is a car movie, doesn't have those cars. But other the girl and Optimus Prime riding a fecking dinosaur robot, this movie was also meh and too long. But still a fan of Transformers and needless to say I will watch the next one as well. 5/10.

When I saw the trailer I wasn't impressed but when the movie started it was actually fun. Kept me enthralled I guess and wasn't bored at all. The longer the movie progressed the more interesting it became. Very glad I decided to watch it. 8/10

I can see this one dividing opinion. It's basically Tom Hardy with a Welsh accent driving down a motorway for 90 minutes trying to sort his life out on the phone (he's using Bluetooth so there's no safety issues). It was alright. About as gripping as it could be with such constrictions and to give it some props a fairly decent exercise in creating tension out of very little.

Bit of a weird one. Scottish film based on a novel by the same guy who wrote Trainspotting. It's kind of similar in some ways, but isn't as good and feels a lot weirder. Clicks at times, but feels outright bizarre at others. James McAvoy's excellent in the lead role though, keeps you watching and interested. 6/10

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Stylish, fun, and different, a lighthearted film about a hotel concierge that takes place under the occupation of Nazis. Ralph Fiennes as the main character Gustave sounds like a modern John Gielgud. Recommended 8/10

I liked this a lot too. Fiennes was very enjoyable to watch.

Yes, loved this as well. Fantastic example of Abel Ferrara´s brilliant "guerrilla" filmmaking. Much prefer his vision of New York to Scorsese's. Much as I admire Herzog, I've avoided his remake of this classic so as not to be let down.
Yeah. Very different films though, different themes, different setting. Herzog's has a more bizarre entertaining quality to it whilst Ferrara's is a more grittier vision.
No suprise that Scorsese rates it so much, nailed all the catholic stuff much better than he ever did.

A friend told me he'd preferred the Herzog version because he found the religious theme in Ferrara's take a bit too heavy. I should definitely watch it, I love Keitel as well.
I saw that at the Prince Charles when it first came out. It's not a popcorn flick, that's for sure.

Still got the ticket but looks like it wasn't first run. I've kept loads of old tickets like this for some reason. Price was 1.50...can't do much better than that.
Welcome to the Dollhouse - 8/10 - The young girl plays her part so well it's hard to imagine her as anything other than a bullied social outcast. The film was basically a harsh look at the life of an unattractive young girl, it's filled with lots of little moments that make you feel terrible for the girl (the bit with the cake at dinner was hard to watch). It didn't leave as strong as impression on me as I hoped, but it's insightful and did leave me wondering how different life can be purely because of looks, especially at a young age. I'm looking forward to checking out more of Todd Solondz stuff, this was my first film of his I've seen and I really liked it.
Sleepers - 5/10 - I was wondering how a movie with a cast of De Niro, Kevin Bacon and Brad Pitt could have slipped under my radar. But it's not a hidden gem, it's complete crap. The subject material is dark and disturbing, but the writing in no way is able to match it. It's the type of film that should be character driven, yet you feel next to zero attachment for any characters. So it's plot driven, yet the plot barely manages to stumble to a completely predictable conclusion that ends with an almost surreal dining table scene that feels like the kind of ending you see in fan-fiction. Even the bad guys are so underdeveloped that you don't even feel any anger towards them. If a film can't make me happy that a pedophile rapist gets shot then it really must be wank.
Philomena - 8/10 - Steve Coogan and Judi Dench are absolutely brilliant together. It's a feckin' emotional ride and the last 30 minutes are just great. I'd say it's in my top three films from last year.

Romance - boring amateurish tripe with a thoroughly uncharismatic performance from Caroline Ducey. Should've known any film with Rocco Siffredi would be shit.

It really is rubbish even worse than Winterbottom's 9 Songs. Two films which manage to make sex ineffably boring - well played.
I really hate Breillat's stuff. So incredibly pretentious and pointless.
