Ok, so we are not in it, but that should't detract too much from what is probably the world's most competitive football competition.

This years favourites - the usual suspects - Bayern, Real, Barca.

So the draw for the final qualifying round takes place today.

Teams in the pot:

LEAGUE ROUTE
Seeded: Arsenal FC (ENG), FC Porto (POR), FC Zenit (RUS), Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER), SSC Napoli (ITA)

Unseeded: Athletic Club (ESP), LOSC Lille (FRA), FC København (DEN), R. Standard de Liège (BEL), Beşiktaş JK (TUR)

CHAMPIONS ROUTE
Seeded:
FC Salzburg (AUT), FC Steaua Bucureşti (ROU), APOEL FC (CYP), FC BATE Borisov (BLR), PFC Ludogorets Razgrad (BUL)

Unseeded: NK Maribor (SVN), Legia Warszawa (POL), ŠK Slovan Bratislava (SVK), Malmö FF (SWE), Aalborg BK (DEN)

Hopefully Celtic don't get in at the expense of Legia........

Arsenal vs Athletic Bilbao could be a very good match.

Reckon both Chelsea and City will do well. More so with City, they have been in the CL for a while now, have a tidy squad. Chelsea, under Jose, always do exceptionally well in the CL.

Arsenal to reach the QF, both CityvChelsea in the semis, and Liverpool failing from the group. That would be ideal.

Legia have been very, very stupid in fielding a banned player against Celtic. They could easily get booted out.

RM, Barca, Bayern and Chelsea for the last 4. Bayern to win it this time.

Chelsea, Madrid, Dortmund and Bayern in the last four. Chelsea to win.

When you put it like that then yes. However they genuinely thought he weren't banned anymore because he didn't play aganst St Patricks and in the first leg versus Celtic, their mistake here was not putting him in the squad for St Patricks tie because they thought they didn't have to.

Celtic have been given a walkover.

feck off UEFA, just feck off. And feck off whoever made the mistake at Legia. feck right off.

It'd never happen to a big club, never ever.

Jesus really? I just posted about similar thing with Debrecen some years ago when they just fined them...ridiculous.

Depressing, I don't believe we will ever see a Polish team in CL now. 17 years of waiting, 6-1 against Celtic and they still go out because of paperwork. I'm so gutted. I never expected it.

That would be so ridiculous you couldn't make it up.

It's kind of ridiculous booting them out for this tbh.

UEFA should have a way of screening this small technical errors beforehand. Yeah, Legia made a mistake but this is ridiculous.

I'm sure there was no intent to cheat or get an advantage but it's absurd that a pro club at any level would make this sort of mistake. Someone should get the sack at Legia.

Why haven't they checked before the Celtic game? They registered him and put him on the bench, surely some stupid UEFA tard should have been able to realise it beforehand rather than AFTER the game? feck off UEFA, as I've said.

They will but honestly, giving them a fine for this would be enough - booting them out of competition because they forgot to register a player for the previous round and thought he still served his ban because he didn't play is plain ridiculous.

They should know the rules better but it would never ever happen if a big club did the same.

Similar thing happened already, with way different outcomes...

However, in 2010, Uefa fined Debrecen £15,000 but rejected a protest from opponents Litex Lovech, who wanted the Hungarian side kicked out of the tournament for fielding an ineligible player.

Debrecen argued that they fielded Peter Mate in good faith as a substitute in Bulgaria when they were leading 4-1 on aggregate.
Uefa ruled that Debrecen had "no interest in fielding this player for the three last minutes of additional time, when the score was so clearly in its favour".

Guess Litex isn't really a giant of Scotland.

The nights result was voided and a 3-0 win to Celtic was given. That's the standard punishment for fielding an ineligible player. Legia are just really unlucky that that scoreline sees them out on away goals.

It's ours this year! Berlin is waiting

Gutted for Legia, bizarre to make such a mistake at pro level. Don't think booting them out of the competition is fair for failing to register a player, however.

Person who was meant to look after all this stuff has already been sacked so I hear. It's quite baffling that the player himself wasn't aware that he's not able to play as well. It's almost as everybody there is fecking clueless and nobody's talking to each other.

Yesterday pretty much summed up Polish football. Bunch of clueless ( Legia ) staff and overpaid shit players ( Lech Poznań ).

Having said that, I hope that Celtic gets trashed in the next round. Not only they played shit football but as well were bunch of classless wankers in Warsaw. Agree with @Sarni that it probably wouldn't happen to some bigger club. Equal and the more equal, etc.

I think the walkover would have been 4-0 if Legia won first game 5-1, 5-0 if 6-1 etc.

Why Dortmund ? They've only gotten weaker.
Why not? They have one of the strongest starting 11's in the competition if they can stay away from an injury crisis I don't see why not.

I'm even more astounded by double standards here. People were livid over Rio missing 8 months because he missed the drug test, were livid at Evra being given a 4-match ban for a row with Chelsea stewards, are notoriously mad that UEFA are fecking us over yet now it happens to a small Polish side and it's absolutely spot on and correct decision because rules are rules and it's your own fault if you mess up paperwork, deserve to go out for cheating etc. Pathetic.

Yup, saying that a team that got beaten 6-1 in two legs deserves to go through is pretty rich.

Yea, and somebody is glad that they're through. Football obviously wins today, etc.

Worst thing in all that, is that for probably the very first time it's the PLAYERS that don't deserve what has happened.

To be fair it's absolutely ridiculous that people employed at Legia earning serious money don't know the rules.

The punishment here doesn't fit the crime at all though, that doesn't change that.

Didn't this sort of thing happen to Celtic just the other year? Incredibly jammy.

Also, it's great seeing this thread and knowing that it'll be something that I can have a direct interest in this year. 4 years away really does make you appreciate top European football. :D

I agree mate. Basically, an administration error has cost them the chance at the group stages. Shame on Legia.

What if you win the first match 4-0 - can you just forfeit or make a mistake like that and it's 3-0 and you're through?

I'm sure that there would be some sort of investivation if a team which was 4-0 up forfeited the return leg.
