I know you're inclined to defend your club and I have no strong feelings on Doyen, one way or another.
I've seen a lot of press releases in my time and that one was very amateurish. That's all I'm saying. Comparing the two press releases the club comes across as a bit hysterical and flustered, while Doyen come across as much more rational and professional. That's purely based on the style/content of the two press releases. Nothing to do with the actual rights or wrongs of the situation.
One reacted emotionally, the other intelligently.

Was reading the Sporting statement. I seriously hope we don't sign him. There have to be other players out there.
Its not really the right thread for this conversation, as this transfer sounds like a messy disaster, so i dont think you can really blame woody in this case.
But we could get a director of football or a transfer ... type person, who reports to him.

I liked sportings statement. If we cant buy rojo outright and have no further dealing with doyen then we should drop it now.

Im not talking about the content - but the tone is far more level than that of Sporting. Its made Carvalho look like a bit of a twat (despite him probably being in the right). He should have handled this better.
I usually agree with your posts Pogue but i this case, i don´t care about the style. I care about the content and about defending the interests of my club. I don´t think the style of the press release will have any bearing on future transfer endeavours of the club. I don´t think Leicester will care about that when negotiating Slimani with us.
To tell you the truth mate and although i love Carvalho for saving the club, he can be quite abrasive and i wish he would tone down in some matters. Not this one though.
This reminds me far too much of the Herrera deal last summer. I even suspect we'll go back for Rojo if we do fail to land him in this window...
You're probably right. It does hint at a lack of professionalism behind the scenes, but so long as Sporting keep producing good players I'm sure other clubs will keep trying to sign them.
There has been some criticism regarding our press reps. Some supporters don´t like the style. But our board is fairly new and still getting used to this kind of matters. I´m sure they will get better with time.
I'm surprised United didn't remove their interest from the player after that episode.
But did United present an offer at all? Did they signal any interest? This Rojo affair is complete shambles and there is alot of speculation.
Well that´s it for me. I will pop by in case there are any new developments. My opinion is that the last transfer days will bring closure to this affair.
Now knowing how the court system works in Portugal sporting can drag this for awhile and the Portuguese court may request Doyle to give to the court the names of the people financing this group, Mendes will be one for sure and maybe some more names coming from Colombia or Mexico. Time to FIFA and UEFA to illegalize third parties in football.

It's been two days but we've already managed to turn this into a saga. I'm impressed.
Woody has a penchant for doing complicated things. First it was Herrera and the 3 amigos who did not represent the club and now you have Rojo and a CEO showing up at Sporting's facility claiming to represent us.
Indeed we don't even know that, only the Southampton bid was confirmed. The only real United/Rojo link comes from Rojo himself - first with those Instagram follows and then with what he's supposed to have said are his reasons for going into dispute with the club. But if Doyen were playing with Sporting, maybe they made promises to the player as well.
That is the way I read the situation as well. So if Rojo sells for 20 Million euros, Sporting make about 5 or 6 times their investment. That's a pretty good return on their investment over the two years they have had him.
That would be quite pointless, instead of 3rd party owning those players, they'd buy tiny clubs to own them instead. Surely you can't stop Norweigian 4th division clubs owning players and loaning them to teams in top European leagues.
I've not been following the latest developments in this situation, but am I right in saying Doyen tried to manipulate Sporting into selling Rojo and that now as a countermeasure Sporting is going to pull out all legal tricks in the book to make sure this transfer doesn't happen in time in order to screw up Doyens plans regardless of the fact they will be left with an unhappy player that might never play for them again ?

Doyen are saying something else.
But basically it seems to me Sporting have gotten themselves into a shitty deal and trying to make the best out of it hardballing almost Levy style. Getting into a legal dispute equals no deal and they know it.
The fund is also not clear and they do not care much about a sporting loss to the club but that's what these funds do. Rest of it seems both maneouvring and making accusations wanting more money.
Yes but I'm sure the Norwegian authorities want to know who's involved and the fact they will have to pay taxes, one of the issues, money laundering could lift a red flag with the European Union and is the fact those groups could be used to wash money from illicit business, drug cartels, etc. Sporting is not going to win anything with Rojo but could ignite changes across the world of football about ownership of players.
From the reports that i read, Sporting are behaving like West Ham did when we wanted to sign Tevez. Only difference being that Sporting have a 25% ownership of the player and West Ham had nothing. If the contract states that Sporting have to pay the 3rd party a fee if they reject a bid, then Sporting are pretty fecked.
All we need now is to put in a low bid twice for Baines and then spend £25 million on deadline day on somebody like Leon Osman and we've almost replicated last summer completely. The absolute incompetence we seem to display every transfer window is actually quite impressive.

Depends on what you want to solve.
Don't want quenstionable money in football, going to be very difficult to solve, just like it is difficult to weed out money laundering from any other business. People with money can buy companies, also football clubs, don't matter if they are big or small and they can invest in players as a means of money laundering. But hell theoretically that is possible with all ownership situations and not really the issue at hand as all funding should be investigated by Fifa to make sure football stays clean.
Want to make transfers go smoother for the benefit of players and clubs than simply forbid 3th party ownership of players by these investment funds. You want to sign a player, you buy 100% of his rights and you are the sole owner. Can't afford to buy 100% than don't buy the player. Makes transfers alot easier since you'd only have to deal with one party (no matter if it is a norwegian club from the 4th division). This is benefical for the clubs since transfers will be easier to make, clubs that don't want to sell can't be forced to by a 3th party and the entire situation is also much simpeler for the player and they won't be caught up in these ownership battles that usually results in them making moves they don't nesc want or in not making moves they do want.
Yeah and that is why probably Sporting has gone and terminated this contract unilaterally with accusations regarding Doyen's behavior.
Serms a tact to avoid paying this type of clause amount now and delaying it in legalities. They probably feel it is a risk worth taking and are angered by Doyen anyway.
