Tonight we are selling Danny Welbeck to Arsenal while we spend a huge chunk of that transfer fee on a player who spent much of last season injured and unless we pay another huge chunk of money will not be our player thereafter.

This to me signifies the dawn of a new era of Real Madrid esq dealings at Manchester Utd. I was hoping LVG would have been a superb tactician and man manager who could life our players with a few additions to be a top 4 team again, but after a tough start it seems he too has simultaneously hit the panic button with Ed Woodward and we are now spending Monopoly money in the hope it does not bite us on the bum and we come 5th or worse again.

We were ripped of by Real Madrid on the fee of 60m for a player worth circa 40m.

We sanctioned the purchase of a mop for 27m and a talented Chelsea off cast who could now be a bench warmer here for 37m.

What has happened to the soul of the club Fergie built, not to mention the scouting network. We dont panic buy we invest (as Arsenal have done yet again tonight).

Wenger like him or hate him is from the SAF school of thought, he would not panic buy and has never finished outside the top 4. We do it once and all of a sudden were playing a real life version of the PC game of football manager in the boardroom.

LVG for me (yes even now) was the wrong man for the job, he is too old and clearly with his signings has short term ambitions for his CV and Utd. We sadly in 3-4 years will pay for transfer windows gambles like this especially if were outside the top 4.

How I miss what Fergie could achieve with British players with heart who cared for Man Utd rather than
the types on huge money and if the truth were told would rather be somewhere else

Much has changed in the last year and in truth I liked us better before.

We've bought good players though.

Oh, do feck off! I'm done with United's version of the 'Mes que in club' bullshit. Look where it brought us last season. "The United way, the United way... Give the (clueless) manager time... Play Welbeck, Cleverley, Evans (and similar shite which is partly the reason why we're shit because we're developing average players for the first team"

Suffice to say, we finished seventh.

Januzaj, Blackett, Wilson, Evans, Pereira.

Shush.

Welbeck got a proper chance in fairness. No complaints.

Are people purposely ignoring Blackett? Of course there is also Januzaj too and also Wilson who looks to have a bright future.

It was inevitable.
Many thought we were truly special just because we were special. But a lot of what made us special and unique for was down to one man and his continuity.

We truly are just another big club. It's not what were used to, but it's not anything to be ashamed of.
We'll have to operate like other top clubs, because there's without Sir Alex there's no guarantee of success any more.

Blackett, Wilson, Evans, James etc. aren't part of the first team? Not to mention Lingard and Keane getting league debuts already and Janko and Pereira getting debuts in the Cup. Cool ya jets.

Wilson, Blackett, Januzaj still here.

The only reason were spending like this is because of retired players and other players not living up to the hope.

The Welbeck move is sad but understandable. He's never really been first choice here, so at times I feel fans are letting sentiment cloud their judgement on him.

I'd have preferred to keep him as well, tbh. But that's football.

Fergie damaged the soul of the club by keeping players at this club who were clearly not good enough and by changing our playing style to one of the worst in the EPL. His leniency in his latter years is to blame for the way we're having to spend now.

I have to agree somewhat with the sentiment here. Not happy at all with this Welbeck transfer. This transfer window has kind of left me with the feeling that our players are no longer "our" players.

Spending money we've accumulated organically to compete with the best after a season finishing 7th?

Do carry on.

Lets not forget Pereira. He's the one player who has gone under the radar, but for me has the highest ceiling in terms of potential.

Welbeck got chances. He hasn't proved himself capable enough.

Shhhhhh, don't say shit like that. They'll ring your neck around here.

All this moaning is a bit over the top. So we sold a forward that is surplus to the requirements and not good enough for LvG. We bring in Falcao who is one of the best forwards in the game at the moment, wanted by City, Real, Liverpool, Arsenal and some other top clubs and still people are moaning.

Yet no one wants to see Cleverley in the shirt again despite being a young lad and about the same age as Welbeck and moans and groans on missing on Kroos, Fabregas and the likes.

Talk about double standards.

Needs must. We need to get back to the top or the bubble bursts. SAF could do it without the investment but was a one off. He and the board obviously felt best bet was to save up and hand war chest to new manager. May have been better to maintain investment but we are where we are.

Please read the post in full and then give a reasoned response, if not kindly take your own advice. Thanks
A bit hasty, I'll admit, but I've edited my post before your reply.

Yeah, really impressed with him and Wilson in that MK Dons shambles.

Wouldn't mind him as part of first team squad and understudy to Herrera etc.

Manchester United doesn't feel like Manchester United right now. They just seem like a club that happens to be based in the city. I'll give LvG a chance, but if this is the way it continues I'm not sure how I'll feel about it.

There used to be something unique about United players. You'd always hear stories from England camps about how the Utd lads were a breed apart. Now we're just importing players who may well be top talents, but don't seemed to be vetted for personality the way Fergie used to do. I really hope this doesn't end in tears the ways van Gaal's stints at Barca and Bayern did.

I really don't like it. Even if we win a title, it won't feel like an achievement that was built in Manchester.

The class of '92 was a freak, what the feck do people expect.

Welbeck wanted out because he didn't want to be a squad option. Should we just let him run his contract down and leave on a free?

This "holier than thou" attitude makes me sick. Yes we have a history of producing youth players, yes we have more history than Chelsea and City, but the game's changed and if you don't spend big you get left behind. If we scrap youth all together then I won't be happy, but Welbeck isn't good enough to hold down a permanent first XI position and Falcao is arguably the world's greatest striker.

Get with the times.

Yeah, as long as we stick to our original ways and widen the gap between us and our rivals we'll continue our form form last season and finish outside the top 4.

Great idea.

Unfortunately - this is what we are forced to do now. City and Chelsea's squad are far too strong - it would have been impossible to compete with them without spending money. We can't afford to wait years to see whether our homegrown players will eventually become good enough. We're promoting Wilson, we've been playing Blackett in every PL game so far (maybe due to injuries, but the faith is there).

I'm happy with the way we're dealing with things. Our squad needed spending considering the players who have left us over the last year.

All this moaning over Welbeck is rather pointless. We've sold academy players before, Wes Brown, O'shea, Phil Neville and Butt likely meant as much if not more for the club.

He did under SAF hence he stared ahead of Rooney in the big games in the CL vs Madrid when he was 21yo. His work rate and speed make him an asset we should be retaining. I am not surprised a manager as astute and talented as Wenger who has his club into the Champions League yet again has come knocking.
Had he been off to Hull etc you could have more of a case.

This attitude is why we're in the mess we're in. It's not a sustainable model for a club that must be challenging for trophies every season, the game has changed and if you don't invest and pay big money for the best players then you will fall. I'm delighted the club is not stubbornly sticking to a fantasy philosophy, and we will still blood great youngsters from our academy such as Januzaj and Wilson.

Wenger not panic buy? Do you not remember what he did after we smashed them 8-2? Where have we panic bought out of interest? All the players we've bought are in positions we need them in bar Falcao.
