According to Catalan Daily Sport.es we tried and failed to sign 18yr old Barca player Adama Traore on the last day of the transfer window and we're expected to go back in for him in January.

From these videos he looks an absolute speed freak and physically very strong for someone his age.
Thoughts of Barca fans would be appreciated.

Very raw but possesses blistering pace & exceptional strength. Only a loan is possible for him as the club has high hopes for him.

Were it not for Munir's meteoric rise, he'd be with the first team right now

Like all wide attacking players at Barca, Adama plays on both the left & right but is strongest on the right

How do you rate Munir, Sandro and Traore? Munir was excellent on his debut and looks like an excellent prospect. Is it fair to say that some of these guys or Munir alone is above Delofeu in the pecking order? Was it his lack of team etic which made Barca send him to Sevilla on loan? Always thought he would be the next big thing out of La Masia, certainly has the talent and age on his side though...

Sandro (19) had a great year with Vinyals 2 years ago and then after his injury took some time to recapture his form. For me, he is the least talented of the 3 you mentioned - a skilled goalscorer who does his best work as a poacher ala Raul. He's atypical of Barcelona forwards for me and the one I feel won't ultimately have a future at the club - just too many better options available. The irony is that his knee injury allowed Munir to move up to Juvenil A and when Sanabria fled Munir really flourished

Munir (19) is a tough player to rate since his progress has been so astonishing, came virtually out of nowhere and keeps scoring goals. He's a prototypical #9 so it'll be interesting to see how he's used out wide since Barcelona don't really play with one on the 1st team. He has a bit of David Villa about him, like Sanabria he has a fantastic left foot. In the UEFA Youth League semis & final, I watched him practising freekicks for a long time - impressive technique, touch & accuracy. He's got speed, footwork, workrate and extremely smart - he plays like a veteran. Biggest weakness is undoubtedly his right foot which is far from dangerous. He's made most at the club feel much better about losing Sanabria and right about now the Paraguayan must be wondering if he made the right decision to bolt

Adama (18) is a beast, as much as I usually dislike that term to describe a footballer nevermind an African but he's compact, powerful, skilled and blessed with incredible acceleration. I've yet to see him caught from behind by anyone. His breakout has been over the past year as he was really a setup/assist man who wasn't really renowned for his goalscoring. Enter Vinyals who has really gotten the best out of him and his ceiling is virtually limitless as well. It'll be a big year for him with the B team as there is no way he won't be playing first team football by next season. Been at the club since he was 8 years old, I am a big fan of Adama

Deulofeu (20) is a tough issue to figure out and personally I'm not happy at all the way the club has handled his development. For me, the most skilled player in the cantera - his biggest weakness is the tracking back and pressing. On the weaknesses, this is where Munir has shown a better overall game compared to Gerard and probably why he was shipped out again to Sevilla. You could see the dejection in the player's face in the first match under Emery and for the Catalan talent who has rebuffed poachers from the Premiership for several years now, a bitter pill no doubt. I have to think the club still understands how valuable a talent he is but we're also approaching a point where being Catalan and having club loyalty will not matter if he's not given 1st team chances with Barcelona. He's far from the finished article but has deserved a chance with the first team, IMHO. Over the past 6 years many cantera players have gotten their shot with the first team but Deulofeu who is arguably the most precious youth talent at the club hasn't really. I feel some tough love from Lucho on this and while it may work out, it could also backfire. The good is that Emery is a great coach to sharpen the areas of his game that need it and Sevilla is a perfect situation (Better than the one at Everton, IMO)

Emery had this to say a few days ago wrt Deulofeu:

The more we leave him alone, the better. He has to settle in, can't pressure him, he has to break free and grow. He has examples nearby he can look to. Now, he needs experience. He has talent but to become an elite footballer he's missing a step. Gerard knows this and his coaches have told him this before. Here he came to get polished with all the demands of the world. He has to work and is on that path.

Incidentally, Spain's U21 playing their Euro match against Hungary in 30 minutes. Munir starting along with Denis Suarez, Deulofeu, Sergi Roberto

@FCBarca is Halilovic going to get any game time this season? He looked phenomenal in pre season when he played.

Copa games, at best, IMO. He did look very good in preseason but has not had similar success so far under Eusebio & the B team - has had some problems seeing the whole pitch. All the 1st teamers have given him high praise though so I am pretty sure he will be promoted next season, the hype is probably a bit overdone but there's a lot to be excited about with him

I just read that he's been registered for Champions League along with a few other B team players which means he may get called up for those matches

Incidentally, his younger brother Dino who was also brought in at the same time for a one month trial with Juvenil B looks like he will not be invited to remain at La Masia. Apparently he lacked the physicality to cope with playing against players often 2 years older

Watched this guy about a year back in some tournament. He was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. Be very surprised if Barcelona were to let him leave.

cant jump the gun on this one i feel. have to let him grow physically before seeing if he can be the same player against strong liga level defenders. hes stronger than the average player of his age group. a lot players cant cope when they have to make the step up.

I'm sure we can afford the fee and wages but can we afford the rocket fuel needed to keep his jets engines going?

He's an exciting prospect. Been tearing apart the Segunda for a while now with his great runs and dribbles. His physicality and high work rate are what I like the most about him, something we need to add to the team. Would love to see him feature more in the remainder of the season. Definitely has the potential to become a very good player and a future starter for us.

He's a machine in every way in terms of pace, acceleration dribbling and strength.

He completed 7 dribbles in just 20 minutes in his first team cameo. Unlike Deulofeu he also has the workrate to boot. Unpredictable though whether these type of players can translate that to first division football. Reminds me a bit of Lucas when he was in Brazil and dribbling everything heads down (who isn't doing too bad at PSG now, mind you).

And because no one will bother to click the video above here is the goal in gif(y) format:

:smirk:

What's his contract situation?

Recently renewed until 2018. He gets a first team slot by contract so depending on what happens with Deulofeu and if Luis Enrique is still manager he may be loaned somewhere for the season.

I saw the end of this game and this kid did stand out, despite me never having heard of him before. However barca did win like 8-1 and played some lovely football as a unit.

I see we didn't go back in for him this Jan! Anyone know how he's been getting on?

Edit: accidently clicked send, was linked with Stoke and Everton for January move.

I saw him play in the Copa Del Rey a few weeks back and he looks a talent. He has the physicality and skill, but his final decision making was a bit iffy, a bit like Januzaj this season. With game time and maturity, he looks set to be a bit of a star.

I was being a bit sarcastic to the original Sport.es claims. Doubt we actually ever went him, but i'd be sure we're watching him.

Oh

Seriously, though, if we haven't put in a bid, we should definitely think about doing so. He's a very talented lad, with the physicality to settle into the EPL from the get go.

Haha, sorry to get your hopes up. Does anyone know/think he'll get any minutes in the league this season?

If local reports are to be believed, he's on his way for a medical with Liverpool...Presumably a transfer with buyback as this is the club's approach to developing cantera players now....Strange if true as I can't see him getting enough minutes under Rodgers who faces the axe this season

On a side note, I suspect similar will be done with Sergi Samper, Halilovic, Grimaldo & Munir

Reports in Spain had claimed that the forward could be flying into England as soon as today to finalise a deal with the Reds, but Anfield sources have dismissed these out of hand.

Traore is widely expected to be leaving the Nou Camp this summer and has been linked with a host of clubs, including Bayern Munich.

The 19-year-old has only made one appearance for the first team at Barcelona and with the relegation of their second team to Spanish football's third tier, he is keen for a loan move away in search of more competitive football.

While Traore is not on the brink of a Liverpool move, the Anfield club are understood to be monitoring his situation.

Would be an odd transfer as Liverpool have plenty of attacking players.

Isn't he a striker? Strange signing if so, the last thing liverpool need is another striker.
