Premier League Gameweek 12

I don't think it's even (all) down to the players he's brought in. It's that he's utterly clueless at setting them up and coaching them defensively. None of our players learn from their mistakes.

Another dull half.
Well Moreno and Manquilo were really good signings, actually. Lovren was a joke though, and Skrtel shouldn't be playing for a team with Liverpool's aspirations.

But yeah, a lot of it seems down to the management as opposed to the players themselves.

Skrtel has been useless his entire Liverpool career except for the season under Dalglish. How Rodgers persists with him I have no idea. Manquillo and Moreno have looked good enough defensively. Moreno's two mistakes (against City and Newcastle) have both been due to him not using his right foot to clear the ball. That's not coaching.

Damn, that was a boring half. Pretty even game, Liverpool with the better possession but palace with the better chances. Liverpool mediocre but I think they'll get the points.

United / Liverpool comparisons will be made, but at least United look a threat going forward. Yes Liverpool scored, but they really do miss Sturridge. Rodgers has blown the Suarez money. Buying two or three quality players this season would have convinced the owners they needed more money to spend to take it to the next level and keep consistency in the team.

Anyway discussion for another thread. Seeing Gerrard playing every week (instead of as a impact player) is lovely.

Yeah. The players have been poor, but Rodgers just blames them for their mistakes instead of helping them not to make them.

He had a brilliant season under Rafa too, but yeah it's not just this season that he's been poor.

Agree about Manquillo and Alberto Moreno but there's clearly a coaching issue. If your players make a few individual mistakes then they're at fault but if they make them every single game it's the manager's fault. Why has there been absolutely no improvement defensively from the day Rodgers took over? And how come every single one of the centre backs he's used were better at other clubs or under different managers?

I can't understand how Skrtel continues to start for Liverpool. He is the one constant in Liverpool's terrible defense both last season and this. He just breeds panic in the Liverpool back line.

Gerrard should be substituted at half-time in my opinion. He offers absolutely no cover for that beleaguered defense either and to add to that, he's been useless offensively or linking defense to attack. There's a lot of talent in Sterling-Coutinho-Lallana but none of them can get on the ball in a decent position with the service Gerrard and Allen are providing. I see a lot of room for Allen/Gerrard to pass the ball forward to Coutinho/Lallana but they seem too afraid to make those passes and instead go sideways or backwards. It's amazing how slow Liverpool's play has become since last season.

Wonder if Gerrard's head is imploding this match, I mean, all the tears from last season from this ground must surely come to his mind right now and he's doing his utmost best not to let his sphincter fly.

Allen has been our best player by a distance. He's had a very good first half. Agree about Skrtel. I didn't mind last season as he was boss at set pieces, but if he's not going to be good at those, then he should be dropped.

Any Liverpool fans enlighten me as to what happened with Daniel Agger?

I always thought he was your best defender, did he have a fallout with Brenda?

Obviously I didn't lay that much attention to Liverpool games but Him and skrtel seemed to be a pretty solid CB pairing.

If you didn't know it was Liverpool and Palace playing, you'd think there's hardly anything between the two teams.

It's incredible how little value for the money scousers got considering how much they spent.

Liverpool's transition from top 4 contenders to mid table side is nearly complete.

He was our best defender. Had injury problems but easily our best when fit.

And yeah Rodgers fell out with him just after he gave him the vice captaincy. Bit baffling.

Allen has been solid but the duo of him and Gerrard as a whole are not providing a proper link to your attacking players.

Allen has been doing exactly that... Agree about Gerrard and you can already see Rodgers has pushed him further forward.

No he wasn't. It's Sakho by far.

I disagree. It's evident from the stats over Agger's Liverpool career that he was our best centre back, and it was also clear that everyone else played better alongside him.

Don't particularly rate Sakho but I'd like to see him get more of a chance too.

Will be interested to know how many long shots Gerrard has had by the end of this game.

Every time I've watched a game at Palace that section of the crowd (near left hand side from the cameras POV) is always rocking. That 'We love you' chant is decent too.

Liverpool do look average, but this will be a very good three points if they can get it.

Interested to see where it goes now. Another loss and their confidence is gone. Stoke at home and Leicster away next.

I was right beside their away fans in OT 2 weeks ago. They were good there too and louder than the rest of OT throughout the game
