Before everyone rages and rants on lvgs formation and subs...

1. Rooney, Di maria, RvP, Carrick were all shockingly bad. Formation, has nothing to do woth these 200k salary players not being able to control a ball, pass one correctly or not shoot like a 5 yr old (looking at you here mr 75mil...)

2. Rvp was acting like a twat against his teammates. This diva behavior has to stop, and that dirty tackle crossed the line. He had to be taken off. Herrera sub was fine.

3. Blacket sub was fine also, blind created a lot for the team and shaw was clearly out of shape. But wilson should have come on for Carrick.

4. Mata just missed huge huge chances. Nothing to do with formation and subs either.

Everyone bar 1-2 failed today. Blame all, and not 1. Lvg might be the one to put them on the field, but its really rooney, rvp, mata, carrick, di maria to look at when shit is going wrong in the simple basics.

Lvg just failed to realise that he should have changed to a 433 after he conceded and opted for long balls as southhampton just shut all down so he brought on fellaini.
They were poor, but a lot of it was down to the 3-5-2 I think. At least with Rooney and Di Maria. Di Maria had to deal with hoofs and basically play as a striker, when he's a midfielder/winger, and Rooney had to play as a midfielder and create and all that, when he's a striker. Just pointless fecking around with the selection. There was just no need for the 3-5-2 at home against a team who plays with 1 up top, it was basically too defensive and Southampton hardly even tried going forward, apart from their goal. We kept the ball well enough until going a goal down but due to the formation, the passing was just too far back to have any impact on the game.

I'll have whatever you're having. Being a winger and finding yourself on the wing isn't a good position to find yourself in. It's your actual pundit ok. We had no shits on target and deserved to lose by more
I don't think you need any of what I had, whatever you're on is working just fine. What does that even mean?

What a numpty....also said he wasn't impressed with Southamptons play...okay Wayne.
He said he'd seen them play better, which is true. They were organised defensively but their forward play wasn't anything special, which makes it even worse that we got mugged by a scruffy goal.
We lost because our attacking was clueless, lacking in invention. The team was all over the place.

Besides defenders sleeping at the goal we didn't look like loosing this, our organisation was perfect.

We didn't create enough chances though, and i agree that this formation hurts us in attack. The problem i think LvG has with the diamond is our vulnerablity on the flanks, maybe a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 could be the alternative, but we just don't have the quality wingers we need for it to work properly. Maybe some transfers could help us out, but it's probably not realistic to get the right quality in January unfortunately.

I still very much believe in Van Gaal, we were a tad unlucky today i think.

I'm baffled by some of the reactions from the spoiled armchair huggers that populate our fan base - mainly those on twitter.

We've conceded 4 goals in 7 games. Stop looking for scapegoats in our defence when the Van Gaalacticos can't produce a shot on target.

Interesting....pundit on NBC just said Moyes had 200 mil less talent and had the same amount of pts as LVG does now at the same time last season.

Mata being 3rd in MOM is a joke really. Had any one else missed 3 in a row like that, he would've been absolutely pummelled here.

Very, very disappointed with the post match comments of our captain and our manager.

"We were dominating", "I thought we deserved to win the game", "[Fellaini] was a good substitution".

Van Gaal's arrogance with journalists is funny when things are going well but it is incredibly frustrating on days like today.
It's hard to laugh at the coach looking at a guy with such disdain when the stupidity on show today was his own.

He spoke about leaving Falcao out because you have to consider the composition of your squad in terms of the opponent. I'm sorry Louis but you got the composition of the starting 11 and the squad wrong today, and you should hold your hand up and say so.

Since when do we leave attackers out of the squad because we're worried about what Southampton can do?

when did we last play well?

edit: are you referring purely to people criticizing the defence? If so ignore

Well put. Defensively we were fine, just playing van Persie, Rooney, Mata and Di Maria in the setup we used today doesn't work.

Rooney and LvG both suggesting we dominated the game.

David Moyes didn't have to take over a team previously manage by David Moyes.

I'm starting to doubt LVG now and NO, it's not knee jerk. I don't know how any manager could have all the attacking players we have and YET, the team struggles to create chances. We registered 0 shot on goal over 90 minutes, terrible.
The team he picked was a joke, not having Falcao or Januzaj on the bench was idiotic.
Rooney in midfield and Di Maria as a striker was a very stupid decision.
3 at the back should be binned.
Make the team play better, stop this focus on being difficult to beat. You are not David Moyes FFS!
Van Gaal has the team fully fit, he could have put players in positions where they are better suited, but he chose to tinker, that's one of his biggest problems, he is too academic, he over complicates things. Just keep it simple and we're fine.
We have got worse in the last few games and I am worried. With the players we have, we should be doing better than 37 points after 21 games. fecking get a grip Louis Van Gaal!

Posted this elsewhere, but would've really liked to've seen this today...

Agreed 100%. Can't understand how a young lad who had 20 minutes at centre back is the worst ranked player in a poll that includes the performances of Valencia, Shaw, Rooney, Van Persie and Di Maria today. Be it the formation or the individuals, we were awful going forward this afternoon.

he never had this problem at Southampton, so it's either bad luck, or more likely something we're doing, as we've had colossal injury problems all round.
It's the fact he said he wasn't fit and overweight. He was fine at Southampton. His obsession with trying to change something that didn't need changing, might be actually harming Luke.

Some on here saying how the tactics were masterful by koeman. Not really its been known for awhile how to get something at OT from our current team. Southampton played like several other teams who come to OT. They came for a draw and got a goal and defended it so fair play to them. They parked the bus and pressed us when we had the ball. of course with our players we should have had more chances but we didn't . Next game start herrara please

All this comparing to Moyes crap the media does is tedious. Why are they still intent on portraying him as unfairly judged? He was shit. Doesn't mean LVG should be let off the hook of course.

Moyes having "ruined the confidence" of these extremely highly paid players was a laughable excuse at the start of the season. It's downright pathetic now.

FroM BBC:

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, speaking to Match of the Day: "We played a much better game than Southampton. They were lucky to score out of nothing. That is very disappointing. We didn't create so much but we dominated the game. They came for a draw, I believe, and they go away with a victory, that is disappointing.

"We have to improve. We have to make better choices with the ball but you also have to take into account that the opponent was well organised today."

From this quotes I dont think he'll ditch 3-5-2.

He says we played a better game but on the other hand we need to make better chances.

Sure, Soton was well organised but its your job to brake them howere they're organised.

He said this too:

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, speaking to Sky Sports: "We didn't create so many chances, despite dominating the game. We gave them a chance in the first minute but dominated after that. We had three big chances, but it was not enough.

"Southampton were well organised, defended well but they came for a draw, I believe, and they go away with a win, which is disappointing. Mata had three chances, but you cannot change the result. We gave the goal away. Football is game from mistakes."

Dominating the game means fu.k all if you cant make a decent chance until the last 5 minutes.

A midfield of Mata and Rooney is a waste of time. When things are running smoothly they can look like top players but if we have to depend on them to control a game and be creative we are doomed. Back passes and wing passes galore. They do not seem able to collect the ball, turn and face our opponents, beat a player and give a good delivery to our strikers. No wonder RVP appeared petulant.
Carrick and Blind were not bad but God how I miss how Scholes use to always collect the ball from our defenders, pass it, move, collect it again and pass it again. When Rooney and Mata are doing their constant back passes the ball should be going to a defensive midfielder and not directly to defenders.
It is so frustrating to watch us. I do not blame LVG as much as others do I just think he needs a creative midfielder and distributor of the ball and get rid of Mata.

Well I wasn't been total serious. Although I do think that Moyes season really did have a set back on the club, that's not saying we shouldn't be over that by now but even the fecking tea lady hated Moyes.

Anyone watching the post match press conference? Press are getting brave. First time van Gaal hasn't controlled a press conference.

that was very frustrating to watch....LVG needs to take a step back and change our tactics or we have no chance of top 4....

We've been fortunate Arsenal and Liverpool have been so poor otherwise we'd be well out of the top 4.

The performance today, and since the Liverpool game, hasn't been any better than Moyes time...... the worst thing is that it is obvious the 3-5-2 is not working - it has never looked good and we've rode our luck against teams - Christ had Moyes played Fellaini as a striker he'd have been crucified on here.

I'm starting to lose faith in LVG - anyone can see that the tactics aren't working - every week its the same predictable shite - yet his stubbornness means he won't change it

team selection was again awful today - no pace and Adnan can't get a game, Rooney in midfield and Di Maria up top?! Herrera scores a belter than sits on bench - Falcao?

I'd love to be a fly on the wall - how will LVG put that down to player under-perfomance? sure Carrick wasn't great, Di Maria rusty and Saints defended very well but our slow predictable build up play ensured they had lots of numbers back

contrast that to how dynamic Arsenal and Liverpool were this weekend and unless he changes things and starts to add some pace, unpredictability and penetration to our attack we'll finish 5th/6th

sort it out Van Gaal

Taking ADM baffled me. He links up well with Mata and Herrera. It was ridiculous.
From what I remember he didn't seem to be linking up well with anyone today:confused:
He was just woeful. Shouldn't have started the match maybe?

Moyes having "ruined the confidence" of these extremely highly paid players was a laughable excuse at the start of the season. It's downright pathetic now.

Totally agree.

Moyes was rightly or wrongly judged on poor performances. Van Gaal must be judged on the same basis - especially since he's had £150 million to spend.

He's forcing a system on the players that doesn't suit the players we have - its constant square pegs in round holes.

People in here have rightly laughed at the Rodgers "we won the passing" meme doing the rounds but that's what we're like at the moment.

Most teams will face United and be happy with a point. He seems to want to sit, let teams attack and try and hit them on the break. What's actually happening is we're passing the ball to death in front of teams with no cutting edge, no pace and no decent movement. It's dreadful.

That was an awful press conference for Van Gaal. For the first time, a couple of journalists stood up and had a go at him and he came across as petty and defensive. Will see what comes out during the week after they've had a chance to have another look at the game but the post match comments of himself and Rooney don't fill me with confidence that there is an honest, objective recognition of where we're lacking at the moment.

I'll have whatever you're having. Being a winger and finding yourself on the wing isn't a good position to find yourself in. It's your actual pundit ok. We had no shits on target and deserved to lose by more

We didn't deserve to lose. Southampton did absolutely nothing all game, yet with all the ball neither did we. 0-0 would have been the apt score. We had more possession, more shots, more tackles, won more aerial duels, had more successful dribbles. We were still shite though no question, but they jsut came for a draw today and couldn't believe their luck when our 3 centre backs decided to stand around 1 player.
