When the 2022 World Cup is confirmed to take place in Winter...

It just gets better and better. Farcical. But will supposedly responsible nations like England or France take a stand and boycott the tournament? Will they feck.

Not sure how the European leagues will deal with this honestly. It might mess up the season after a little too.

They wont have a choice, they will have to change the seasons around to suit, the problem is not only playing the World Cup but the players needing to get together at lest 2-3 weeks before the comp starts, then at least 2 weeks rest after, I would think a stop of 9-10 weeks would be needed, meaning the season could finish mid July, meaning the next season could not start until September, it could alter the season dates for 3 seasons.

But that will never happen, we all know that the leagues will kick up a stink , but in the end they will just do what ever FIFA says.

Many sporting organisations have split in the past. The EPL for one. I suspect it wouldn't come to that in this case, the threat of secession would be enough to make Fifa back down, as it's people have a lot to lose, personally.

I can't believe how badly they fecked up the 2022 world cup.

It still seems easier for them to just move it our of Qatar.

The clubs, the leagues, the players, the broadcasters, they will all have lost so much because of this idiocy.

And so will the status and importance of the world cup.

Vainly praying the PL grows a pair of balls and tells FIFA to feck off if they think they are hosting it in the winter. All it takes is a couple of big leagues or nations to threaten non-compliance with the whole idea and it could be effective. Will never happen though.

They have basically release a statement saying that Fifa are fecks every time theyve said anything about Qatar.

I guess they don't want to risk the safety of players or fans by forcing Fifa's hand and keeping it in summer at Qatar

The guy in charge is saying "All parties have to compromise, including the Europeans."

Why exactly should they compromise? Surely the footballing nations have compromised enough already by accepting that a nation of just over 2m inhabitants, many of whom have little interest in football, and an appalling human rights record, is fit to host a worldwide event.

Yep. Not to mention that the stadiums are going to resemble mass graves, and do already to a certain extent. But the use of what essentially amounts to modern day slave labour doesn't seem to bother FIFA. It's a World Cup I won't be watching -- an all round disgrace.

Because money.

I think it would only take England, Spain and Germany. If those three leagues decide not to cooperate, then FIFA is fecked.

Wasn't the inital bid won by Qatar on the basis that they could host a World Cup in the summer with air-conditioned stadiums? If they cannot provide this, surely the Qatar bid is legally invalid?

I don't know, just talkikg out of my arse, but any legal guru willing to clear that up?

Depends on the legal situation, to be fair. Someone more versed with the rules might able to say if the FA's of the respective nations would have the power to prevent players in their league from being released to play in the World Cup.

Football could go the way of boxing and have two or more world champions. Might never get fixed if it split over this.

It's a fecking disgrace. That kafala system alone should've been enough to disqualify them. FIFA is an utter joke; their, frankly, horrible stance - that it's the particular contractors' problem and not theirs - is enough to spit on every word which comes out of their representatives' corrupt gobs.

Bunch of feckin' villains. Worse than ever, it seems, in our enlightened day and age.

The problem is that no one knows if they could deliver that until it puts fans at risk. But yes, I agree

And this. How can this not disqualify them.

FIFA want an out, they've been handed one on a plate...

Leagues should simply walk away from FIFA and declare international football dead. It's only relevant once every four years and decreasingly so.

It really would only take a few leagues or a dozen or so clubs to force FIFA's hand if they all decided to join together and pool their influence. Would probably set a horrible precedent but it is strange how FIFA has all this power despite seemingly having little leverage.

None of the associations will actually threaten anything though, IMO. It's too late for that now. Even if the associations want to, their governments won't let them due to diplomatic fallouts.

I suspect that this was always their modus operandi. Win the bid making outlandish claims, then bend the basis on which they won it. I suspect they've already covered the legal holes

They don't need any legal loopholes as FIFA are clearly on their side anyway. I don't think the CAS would be able to force any sanctions unto FIFA. So where would anyone who wants to start a legal process against their bid turn?

The sheer audacity of it all from FIFA is jaw-dropping. Despite every obvious reason to not do it, they are going ahead at all costs. Surely one of the most in-your-face, "we don't give a feck" acts of corruption in recent times

They've screwed over football associations, clubs, players, tarnished the image of what was the most prestigious tournament and that's not even half of the trouble they brought on for this World Cup.

But the sad thing is despite all the problems they've caused, they're going to get away with it. The World Cup will get moved and there will be no reprisals whatsoever. Sponsors aren't going to pull out because they know people are still going to watch the World Cup. And even if attendance wise this World Cup fails, they'll just paint it as a rousing success because they brought a World Cup to the Middle East, like they did with South Africa.

I have a feeling the EPL secretly want this to happen in the winter. It's the perfect time to restructure the league format and introduce a winter break.

I gues that means no winter break in most european leagues then.

This is also unlikely to happen, as international teams and tournaments are big money spinners for them individual associations
