Too soon to call him a success though, he hasn't cemented his place in the team yet, i know a lot of people would still pick Carrick ahead of him, but i get your point

I can understand the point of feeling you shouldn't judge a player after a short amount of time, though I feel it applies more to players that aren't doing that well than those that succeed, as the argument behind not judging them too soon when they're doing badly is that they need time to adapt. But judging him on the basis of stuff like 'some people would pick Carrick ahead of him' is irrelevent in my opinion, you can only judge him on what we've seen and what he's done. And I don't think there's much to call him anything else than a success rather than 'too soon to judge him'. In fact I'd go one step further and call him one of the best bits of business done last summer, along with Fabregas, Costa and Sanchez.

Oh but it is, Blind has been one of our best players this season, and he has done well in his role but branding him an "absolute success" is premature, he averages 2 tackles and 3 interceptions a game which is quite impressive, but to be an "absolute success" in his first season(which isn't even over) he would need to have had a significant amount of impact on a team and he should have cemented a place in the team by now and that is not the case... Again, I'm not taking anything away from his solid start but he isn't an absolute success.

Matic has been pivotal for Chelsea since his arrival and to me is an example of a player who has been a success for his team in less than 2 seasons, he has been driving Chelsea to glory all season long from that midfield position.

I think comparing Blind's impact to that of Fabregas,Costa and Sanchez is a bit of a reach, he has been good but not that good, i mean those are players that have made huge impacts on their respective teams, without those players this season, Chelsea might not be 1st right now and Arsenal would definitely not be in the top 4 talk less of 3rd, Blind has been an Okay signing, he has been average in some games and solid in others, but i don't think his absence would have as much impact on us as those guys.

I didn't compare his impact, nor would I. I said he was one of the best bits of business done last summer.
 
Liverpool the only team in the PL to have a better record against teams in the Top 10 than in the Bottom 10 !

I read somewhere that Bowyer already warned Rodgers about the abysmal state of their field. That's definitely not an advantage for us if true. God, I hope we win this. If so, I'm pretty confident we'll get to the final.

It was actually quite funny what he said, when Brendan complained about Anfield's pitch Bowyer said it was like Wembley compared to Ewood!

8th April is ages off, but a decent away and should be able to get a ticket touch wood.

If I recall correctly, Chief Superintendent David Duckenfield was allowed to retire (very) early on grounds of ill-health within eighteen months of the Hillsborough disaster, allowing him to avoid a pending disciplinary case and live a very comfortable life in Bournemouth for the next 25 years on his full police pension.

On Thursday, he will be questioned by the families' lawyers. I hope he's shitting himself.

Those teams are hilariously set up. Obviously struggled to find any defenders. Henry, Suarez, Torres, Gerrard and Xabi in the same team though. :drool:
 
I looked for a thread about the Hillsborough inquests but couldn't find one, I don't re-raise the subject to cause offence or upset and i apologise if i do, this seemed like the best place to post this as a few in this thread were already discussing the subject. I have copied and pasted this article which was published in football fanzine 'When Saturday comes' it was published on the 28th June 1989 and it perfectly highlights how football fans were treated in the 1980s.

Those teams are like when I play 5 a side football and I have to pick the teams. I give it a semblance of equity but deep down I manage to get the best players in my team.

Anyways, I was reading today that we were close to signing Jordan Henderson at one point when he was at Sunderland, until Ferguson was put off by his running style (???). What's the caf's thoughts on Henderson?
