It's one of these decisions that could go either brilliantly or disastrous. No middle ground.

Didn't he do that against Barcelona last season (the game they lost 2-1 to that Sanchez lob) and it just flopped???

Isn't he just playing RB with Varane and Pepe as central pairing?

Edit - Nevermind, just saw Carvajal in there. Hmmmmm....

Ramos should obviously be sitting this one out anyway, after getting away with another kick out, along with a few punches against Atletico this season.

Mandzukic is playing, looks like it'll be Pepe v him this time around.

Any reliable rivers knocking about for this one? PMs will be accepted..

But no PMS

He did the Sergio Ramos experiment in Camp nou and was a disaster. He really doesn't trust Illarra and Silva

Yes but its the sensible way to go imo. Would you really play Isco and Kroos in a middle 2 vs Atletico?

I think Real Madrid will finally win again against Athletico Madrid.
Chicharito will score the winner for Real Madrid :)
But Pepe or Ramos in midfield says a lot what Ancelotti thinks about Khedira and Illarramendi.

In the other game i think and hope Juventus are going through.

I don't think many are questioning the fact that he's playing three in there tbf, more questioning the fact that Ramos is one of the three.

Real will win I reckon. They absolutely dominated atletico in the first half away from home. I expect a similar start on the front foot.

I wouldn't, but I can't see Pepe/Ramos doing a better job than an actual midfielder. Ancelotti could have played Lucas Silva/Illarramendi in a midfield three with Isco and Kroos, but it's clear to see that he doesn't trust them.

Reminds me of the whole Rooney in midfield issue.

Think he wants height in the team. Atletico are a big threat from set pieces. He doesnt trust Illara though, that has been evident for a while.

Massive opportunity for Hernandez. Everyone is gazing in this shop window tonight and wouldn't be a bad thing for us if we could entice a bidding war. A goal tonight should do the trick.

Play him at RB if you want height and play an actual midfielder in midfield. Simples.

Carvajal is brilliant though, cant leave him out. How highly do people here rate Illara or Silva anyways? I'd rather Ramos there and Carvajal at RB than sacrifice Carvajal to play one of them.

The net effect of ramos at fullback with one of silva/illara in midfield will be greater than carvajal at rb and silva in midfield. Apparently he only played there once before this season against barca and had to be substituted with ancelotti calling it the worse mistake of his career.

Great timing to try it again

Ronaldo looks like he's trying to shag the line up.

Am I the only who's tired of that stupid celebration? Over and over and over again...

Christ, it would have been fine if he'd scored a screamer from thirty yards, but scoring an easy tap-in on top of a 5-0 victory and celebrating like that just looks silly.

It's pretty hilarious.
