Cristiano Ronaldo - Performances (wums will be thread banned)

I wouldn't say it is, he was in the top 3 players in the world that year providing only 3 assists. Surely stats dont tell the full story?

Surely, no one has claimed such a thing. Maybe you should practice your reading skills.

Have you understood my logic in the first place?

One season is a very small sample to draw any conclusions. Iniesta has contributed his fair amount of assists during the various seasons. The number of assists is not strongly correlated to creativity, of course, but there is an important correlation nonetheless. Obviously, many think that the best player in the world has so many assists because he's very creative.

I understand it but completely disagree with it.

Assists and creativity aren't that strongly linked in my view. I've seen plenty of players go through a season with few assists, and I've seen yard dogs pick up assists for nothing. Getting an assist is fairly useless as proof of anything.

Many players think Messi is creative because they watch him play and see the range of amazing passes he plays. Not because he chalks up an assist that could well be a simple pass.

It wasn't long ago when Ronaldo created the winning goal against Atletico in the CL. It wasn't down to a simple pass by any means. But people who want to belittle his game instantly forget about such examples of creative play and instead choose to stick to their prejudices. I'm out.

No one says he isn't capable of creative play. Just that he doesn't show it often enough, especially over the past few months.

The pass to Hernandez was a simple and obvious one. The fact that people are praising him for that is suggestive of a)how selfish he has become and b)how far his game has fallen.

It's perfectly normal to think that Ronaldo is not as good as the best players ever but to belittle his achievements as some posters do here is small time.
Real Madrid have let themselves down with a past-it goalkeeper, and ridiculuous things like playing Ramos in midfield, and now Ronaldo is shit! He's been dragging them to trophies for years, but there's only so much he can do alone! I've never known such an amazing player to get so little respect.

The pass was only the concluding part of his creative play. Watch it again. That response sums it up for me.

I've watched it. The best pass in the entire move and real killer one came from James not Ronaldo. However, it was a good piece of movement from Ronaldo to facilitate the one-two.

Not sure how bringing up one example supports your point. Against Valencia, he was up there with Bale as the worst Real player. Even Bale created a decent chance for that matter. In a game where he should be taking the initiative and pushing Real forward he almost turned into a hindrance.

After the CL game last week, I was listening to a radio show on Sirius radio. A BBC reporter came on and talked about what an awful teammate Ronaldo was and how it was obvious that all the other RM players disliked him & weren't passing to him & this made the team collapse.

I was surprised. What do you think? I didn't watch that game, so I couldn't tell if this was said because a) it's true, or b) Ronaldo is keeping Bale out of the limelight and the British press don't like that, or c) this guy has some other axe to grind.

He's incredible...

Only 20 from Raul??

I posted a stat a few weeks ago that said Ronaldo could play 400 games without scoring and still have a better goal to game ratio than Real's all-time top scorer, Raul. Frightening.

For me he is the best striker of all times.

As a person I don't like him at all, but well, as a footballer, with good partners, he can be unstoppable.

Credit is due for his first half, his goals was a penalty though (which he didn't earn).

I think James Rodriguez deserves more credit for he two goals over this tie than Ronaldo does, he is starting to perform this game however.

I do think the second half is made for Real Madrid as Juventus push for a late crucial goal (as the score stays the same) it leaves huge pockets of space for Ronaldo to exploit.

He really a striker now a days.

He may have a starting position on the wing, but he doesn't do anything anymore, just passes it off and charges into the box.

The old Ronaldo would be the spark, the team would try to the get the ball to in the final 3rd to do something special, shame hes not that player anymore. He may score all these goals in Spain, but still think his last season with us was his best, where he displayed his total game.

To be fair, he was brilliant all round in his first season for Real.

Thee 42 goal season was amazing. Such a player....all rounded.

If only Bale can head the ball, we'd be watching extra time...

Oh well, come on Juve!!

First half he was decent. Non existent in the second.

Where are the idiots who claimed he didn't perform in big games? :smirk:

His performances across both legs was very average. I wouldn't say poor by his standards though...he's maintained that standard in every one of his CL semi's.
