I reckon we've offered him more money than Madrid will. Considerably more imo. So the dilemma he has is more money or more time with his loved ones.

I wonder if we might get any clues from when he picks up the Player of the Year award tomorrow evening.

I'm certain he's off but would be fantastic if he announced he was staying during his speech!

Thats going to be an odd one now you mention it, having to get up on stage and accept the award with United fans howling and pleading in the background for him to stay,
then the interview with Mandy Hendry afterwards.

Awwwkward.

On Bleacher Report, where Balague is a columnist, there's a little something else in a similar article:

However, it is what is happening behind the scenes that will probably play the biggest part in De Gea’s final decision.

Not everything is great at the Carrington training ground, where manager Louis van Gaal’s constant changing and tinkering during training is driving many totally nuts. The chances are that Manchester United will be challenging for titles both nationally and in Europe, but the reality is that the working atmosphere at the moment isn’t great.

Think that's bollocks tbh with you. You just have to see what the players have said about him and more, the performances on the pitch in big games especially, to see that. And any frustration would have been apparent at various points in the season, but there haven't been. He has got us playing with belief again when it looked like any semblance of it was lost.
Furthermore, even if it were true, there will be another shakeup of the squad, and these 'frustrated' players would most likely be gone, so its a bit of a strawman at best.

Guillem is smoking some weed before writing. And even if the working atmosphere is not perfect, what did he expect after the shit year we had under Moyes? That all players would be pampered on their way back to top 4?

We bought a young Spanish goalkeeper and he looks to be gone. Some day these dumb twats will realize that playing for a set of maladjusted Madrid fans is just not worth it.

I only wish Arjen Robben could just testify that and nail Real Madrid for all the many disadvantages outweighing the advantages. If there's someone who can say that he performed excellently after leaving Real Madrid, he's the most credible voice to rain shit on them based on his own experience.

If he's gonna go, at least sign a new contract and go, like most other clubs are doing to their players.

Tie em down, and sell em for 50 mil.

Reports in Marca that Real have made a 14.4 million quid offer, just now.

Cheeky fecks, we buy him for 18 and sell him on for 14.4. Ridic.

Makele might have a word or two to add as well... ;).

He should be going for 50-60 mill , hes one of the best keepers in the world, probably just behind Neuer. Plus they`ll get minimum 10 years world class fixed keeper, they wont have to change for many years

We had better not sell for anything less than 50, as people have said dont know why he just doesnt sign a new contract, so his transfer price goes up, its what every player does almost

Yep, we won't though we'll sell for around £25 mil.

Noone is crazy enough to pay 50m for a goalkeeper with 1 year left in his contract, even for number 1 keeper in the world. Furthermore, Real Madrid is in the upper hand here, knowing that De Gea wants to go back to Spain, we don't have to sell but the whole situation is pretty much fecked.
I reckon £25 m is a fair price but we won't receive that much, swap deal is probably the best for us.

Firstly, the Spaniard has been left unimpressed by aspects of Louis van Gaal's management in the Dutchman's first campaign at the club.

Van Gaal's lack of confidence in De Gea's abilities saw him ask United to sign an alternative first-team goalkeeper in last summer's transfer market. Although it proved impossible to secure his preferred option for the position, the manager is also understood to have asked his new club to hold off on formally offering De Gea a new contract until he'd decided on the Spaniard's long-term suitability within his system.

There's just no way that's true.

We need to place ourselves into a stronger position. Selling him for £20million does not benefit us, we are not desperate for money and Madrid know that. So we might as well refuse to sell him and let him leave for free next season, bearing in mind a lot can change in that year time. We might be title contenders and Madrid might receive a transfer ban, more chance De Gea might renew his contract. Don't see any benefit in selling him for that amount, we would only be laughed at for making a loss. Considering we developed David into a world class keeper.

Real clearly want their man, and everything we're hearing implies that he hasn't made his decision yet. If they want to show him how badly they want him onboard, they'll pay what we think he's worth. If they're willing to leave it another year just to be cheap, it's not exactly sending him the most positive signals about how much they need his services.

If he does want to go, we need to make sure that it's clear he can do so only on the proviso that Real pay up. It's not like they're short of cash, and if they are I'm sure there are one or two players we'd be happy for them to use as a makeweight. If they don't want him so badly, I'm happy for him to continue playing for us, even if it's only for another season.

I'm still hopeful he'll sign a new contract and likely leave for Real next season. All this is very similar to the Ronaldo situation.

In Ed "Money" Woody I trust to lay DDG with a golden contract he cannot resist.

I am very hopeful that we are willing to pay him a substantial amount more than Real.

The exchange rate and the 8% difference in the top rate of tax work in our favour.

He's arguably a lot more valuable to us than he would be to them; his last minute saves were crucial in us getting the CL spot.

Signing and staying for a year makes a lot of sense.

- Big payday
- a title challenge
- the gratitude of fans and teammates

If he is still performing as he is now, Real will be back for him the bastards.

Obviously there has to be a limit, but if I was Woody, I'd ask De Gea to name his price. He's literally that good a player and as you said, vitally important to us unless we sort out our defence.

I really don't think money is the problem. The offer he's had is probably way more than what he's get at Real.

"Another factor that could influence De Gea's decision is that United's cause has not been helped by Van Gaal's idiosyncratic treatment of some of the club's other Spanish-speaking footballers."

So what, De Gea is now leaving because he's standing up for the rights of people who aren't even from the same continent as he is, just because they speak Spanish?

what a load of old bollocks that article is from start to finish...

If, as we suspect, that is the case, it is far from certain he will leave..

Money talks. He has a lot to hunk about.

Yeah, the two things making me hopeful that he might stay (even though I don't think so) are:

1) Things aren't sorted out between RM and Casillas yet. De Gea won't want any trouble with his idol and club legend

2) Of less importance, but still, he'd earn much more here than at Madrid.

I really hope we don't miss the chance of getting Cech while either DDG keep pondering what to do, or Ed postures over the fee.

We should just give them a price we want, and a deadline for them to say yes or no, if they want him enough they'll pay up, if they don't then he's better off with us.

You get the feeling though this would have been a whole lot easier for DDG if we had missed out on top 4, I like to think the fact we have got it has made him question going through with a move, hence the stories that he is undecided still.

If David goes and I hope he don't :( but he should sign a new contract with a set fee for those cheap cnuts. None of this penny pinching. They should be made to pay what we want IF they actually want him. Wank*rs.

Is this true? I thought it’s very uncommon situation. Madrid is clearly a place where he wants to end, for many understandable reasons. I don’t think it makes sense for him to sign a new deal.

Best case scenario is he decides to stay for another year, extended deal or not. I don’t really care as we will get peanuts in comparison to his value.

Second best scenario is we get a player from Madrid we want (not Coentrao). I could live with that.

That said, I think there is no point in keeping him for another year if he clearly doesn’t want to be here. Worst (and most probable) scenario is he leaves this season for money only.

Yep. Madrid might sign someone like Cech or Lloris and have them perform so well they don't want a change, or we might fluke a CL with good tactics a la Liverpool, or just win the league and it convinces De Gea to stay.
