De Gea's future has gained the most attention because, as the club's two-time player of the year, he's one player United fans don't want to leave. The Spaniard has said nothing to journalists publicly, but he's been approached by United fans around Manchester. They pay his wages and ask what his plans are face-to-face, with no PR spin or journalistic filter.

The goalkeeper has usually opted for what should be known as the "Wayne Rooney reply", which is that better players should be signed by the club and echoes what the striker gave as a reason for wanting to leave back in 2010.

If De Gea added his reasoning is because some of the current squad haven't been good enough then he wouldn't be wrong, but players can tell fans what they want to hear while covering their own backs and there's a danger that they're being disingenuous ahead of leaving. Rooney stayed, of course.

De Gea really appreciated the applause he got vs. Arsenal at Old Trafford last week and the fact that United can pay him twice the number Madrid will go to is also a factor, as is the future of Iker Casillas, but the Madrileno has yet to give his current club any indication that the huge contract he's been offered will be signed.

Interesting bit from Mitten.

I wish he'd just get this over with now. It's stressing me out. Even more so because it's that anus of a club RM.... I really hate them.

Mitten's coming out with a new article basically every day just rewording the same shite. Starting to feel like he's lost his prior contacts or he isn't being given anywhere near as much and it's mostly guess work (the bit about De Gea telling fans on the street that he wants us to sign big players is blatantly bullshit).

Ancelotti getting sacked gives me hope though, especially if it will be Benitez who takes over. Surely he wouldn't want to go there if that happened?

You would have thought the Ancelotti sacking will delay the outcome of this saga. Surely Real will want the new manager to sanction the signing, and more importantly de Gea should want to see who comes in. It might force him one way or another...

When did a manager at Real have a say in transfers.....If Perez wants DDG he will go for him regardless of the manager.

How naive

Ogden did a Q&A the other day..

Louis van Gaal is expected to spend heavily in the transfer market again this summer. Which areas do you think need strengthening the most?

Doesn't look great.

Not sure Ogden is that well informed any more, but he seems cock sure of himself on DDG so he must have some decent info on it I suppose.

I just hope we are in for Cech, and all the messing and posturing that is bound to happen doesn't cause us to miss out on him.

I want to believe that he won't go to Rafa if they will appoint him. He is a sane man after all. I want to believe...

He's a goner, we've known this for a while and anyone still holding out hope is deluding themselves. If he was going to stay he would have signed months ago.

The good news is we don't need the best goalkeeper in the world to be successful. I really just want this saga to be over already to be honest.

This is all a bit confusing now, I mean my feeling is that DDG obviously wants the move but is a bit hesitant of telling United that he wants to leave. If you look at this from his perspective then signing a new contract would mean that he would definitely stay with us for one more year at least and he can't be sure how Real would react to that. They have issues with their keepers so they might go for a keeper right now which could put any future move for De Gea in doubt, also he can't be sure whether Real would be ready to stump up the big money that United will want if he signs a contract. This transfer in a lot of ways is different from the other players Real sign because a goalkeeper isn't really a marquee signing IMO. Unlike with the top class attacking players who Real consider a matter of ego to sign I am not sure they feel that about a keeper. So DDG is keeping quiet and waiting to see how it goes

As for Mitten well I like him because he is a United fan but he is now behaving like a clueless hack who writes stuff in a manner where he manages to cover himself up for every possible scenario

No, but I laughed when everyone was reporting that we will sign Herrera and he tweeted that we are not interested.
Well that's a lie isn't it? He was honest and said he wasn't sure (i.e he had no info on the whether the signing was happening so didn't proclaim to have any).

I don't think the journalists are reporting anything that we don't already know. If he was going to stay he would sign a new contract on much higher wages, and he'd of done that a while ago.

How is that a lie? He clearly says in the tweet that we were not interested. It shows that he has no idea what's going on.

What new information did he release since LVG was hired that makes you say he has any idea what's going on?

This is all leading up to an announcement out of the blue that we've agreed a deal with Madrid. My bet would be shortly after the new Madrid manager is announced - not before.

Had been (previously) ruled out. The idea that he claimed the reports in Spain were false because we weren't interested are clearly wrong. He posted this in his article 10 hours after that tweet.

Manchester United are aiming to complete the £28.8m signing of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera before the end of the week after Louis van Gaal sanctioned a renewed move for the 24-year-old.

Meh! De Gea has been our player of the season but mostly because he has had to be, he is a great keeper (sorry shot stopper) but he is still a country mile behind Schmeichel and VDS, I know he is young and will probably get better, but cannot see him growing six inches, gaining 2 stone and ever having the presence necessary to be dominant in the Premier League.

I reckon the sheer amount of money we are offering him compared to Madrid is too much to resist. I believe it's about double in income and we all know footballers careers aren't the longest.

I'm starting to think he'll stay, most likely due to the money though.

If Mitten is right (and I believe he is normally on the money) then DDG can feck right off. Rooney got hammered for playing the "signings aren't good enough" card and so should DDG.

It wasn't that long ago that DDG himself was one of those players who wasn't performing and now, after one good season, it seems he thinks its legit to be using our transfer dealings as an excuse to bail out. And it certainly seems that he's delaying signing to see who we bring in and if it's not going to be beneath his dignity to stop around. I've no time for cnuts like this that think after 5 minutes at a club they can start threatening to feck off if we don't buy players that they like. If it's true I hope we get rid and get what we can because I agree with Ogden...there's good keepers out there to replace him and he's nowhere near the finished article himself.

He's probably waiting to see who's the next manager but I'm just waiting for the day his departure is announced.

Woah.... hes had more than one. More like 2.5 and POTY 2 times running now.
Still I hear the general sentiment of your post.
However, this guy is probably the no2 GK in the world, when you reach that level you need to be winning throphies and the last 2 seasons we've served up 7th and 4th. We're not meeting his ambitions, tbh though I think it obvious we mean business so I doubt that is really the case. More likely the truth is his family is in Madrid and thats the issue.

Whatever decision he makes, fair play to him, it probably wouldn't have been an easy one. Let's just hope the club makes him regret going to Madrid, football wise anyway.

Surely David should be running with his arms wide open (and dollar signs in his eyes) toward Woody with the news of Rafa to Real...

We should send a rescue operation for Viva too.
