Presumably other posters. Different opinions. What's your point?

That, in the case of Valdes at least, United fans are not guilty of valuing a player higher just because he plays for another club.

I think what you mean is that SOME United fans don't value him higher.

How's he teasing?
United manager Louis van Gaal has indicated the 24-year-old's future is in his own hands, with Real Madrid reportedly keen to take the former Atletico stopper back to the Spanish capital.

But if the decision does lie with De Gea, he still appears to be uncertain on his next career move with one more season left on his contract at Old Trafford.

"We will see what happens regarding my future," De Gea told Spanish sports newspaper AS.

"Right now, I'm on holiday."

Speculation over De Gea has grown in recent weeks with his delay in signing an extension to his United contract.

The Madrid-born player is currently in Spain and was named on Sunday as the "adopted son" of the Castilla La Mancha region, where he grew up.

"I'm delighted for this recognition," he said.

Van Gaal stated a week ago that he believed United's player of the season would not be heading back to Spain.

There may be legal reasons why a player can't come out and say what he plans to do, one way or another. That being said, I genuinely don't think even DDG knows where he wants to play next season.

Granted - but at least Ronnie came out and said it was an ambition to play for RM and he grew up supporting them. He even got his ol' mam involved. So, it was as clear as could be.

He's gone, it's obvious when you say I'm on holiday it's pretty much done.

I can't remember the last player to stall a contract this long to stay.

I think hes made his mind up to leave, however I don't think the club have decided whether or not to keep him for a year (and try and convince him to stay) or sell him now.

Not sure how he's teasing there, he's just reiterating that he's not talking about it yet.

If hes taking his holiday to weigh up his options that's fair enough, he's not obliged to inform us of his every thought.

I know. It's really bothering me. I'm pretty much fine with him leaving (obviously I'd rather he didn't but this story has been drip-fed to us for years now) but why is it taking so long? If he wants to stay, sign a contract and say so and the club can plan for next season. if he wants to leave, say so and ask to leave so we can get to work on finding a replacement. If he still doesn't know, then why not? This must be the most boring, obvious and the slowest transfer saga I can remember.

Given that we spunked 60m on Di Maria who has failed miserably (and he has), it would be interesting, assuming your theory is right, who De Gea would consider a good enough signing to influence him to stay.
I think DDG knows, like the rest of the footballing world, that we are a good 5/6 players away from competing in the CL and probably about 4 away from the PL. ADM was just the start but the club needs to act. We shall see, but it does seem odd that he hasn't committed either way after all that has gone on.

He's off, remember Thiago? Toni Kroos? This is exactly how they played it. "No comment", "only God knows about my future" etc. It's become boring as far as I'm concerned, I hope we get a replacement [I prefer Leno] quick and get on with it.

God must be making a killing online betting.

I can't see De Gea coming out saying he wants to leave at this stage. I would imagine the club know by now and if we are agreeing to sell him negotiations may well be under way.

I think the first we hear from De Gea will be at his unveiling in Madrid. Possibly not wanting to burn his bridges in case the move doesn't happen. Crappy way of doings things and the fans don't deserve to be strung along.

I wouldn't qualify this as an 'every' thought. This would qualify as 'a big bloody decision'.

I think it's teasing. Not overtly, but a tease nonetheless.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you, pal.

If Valdes isnt proven world class i dont know who is. 3 Champions League titles including against arguably the best team we have ever fielded and 6 La Liga titles against a Ronaldo backed Madrid do not happen with anything other than a world class keeper.

His injury is a question mark but he was in the form of his life the season before.
In Victor, we trust.
(Well, I do anyway ...)

;)

Nobody is arguing about his past credentials. He used to be great.
But, is he a good keeper, today?
If he was so good, why did Barca drop him?
If he was so good, why did no other club offer to pick him up on a free transfer?
Was he a secret that only LVG knew about, or have other clubs looked at him and believe him to be past it?

Shevchenko used to be fantastic. He joined Chelsea, when he was past it. Same with Torres. Same with Falcao.
Does Valdes belong in this list?

Is that s'posed to be a poem?

because it's shit.

Barca didn't 'drop him'. They offered him a new contract and did everything they could to get him to stay. It was Valdes that made the decision to leave, as he wanted a new challenge. It was only after he suffered the ACL injury that the move to Monaco broke down.

Other clubs were apparently interested, it was widely reported that Liverpool offered him the role of their #1, but he said no, and decided he wanted to come here (largely, you'd imagine, because of his relationship with LVG)

As for how good he is, I guess that comes down to how well he's recovered from the injury, because prior to that he was having the best season of his career.

In the case of Valdes I would say it's almost the exact opposite.

When he was at Barcelona he was considered a joke on this forum. Now he has signed for us I read people saying he was one of the best keepers in Spain and an important part of their success.

If it happens that DDG unveiling is in the same time or a bit later after FSW unveiling isn't that a bit disrespectful towards us.
I mean I think he should say his decision before that and not just pop up at the snake pit aka Bernabeu.

VDS, Cech, Buffon, Casillas and Neuer were all better than Valdes when he was at Barcelona. They always had so much possession and control, they didn't need a world class keeepr, and no way was Valdes world class.

- His last game showed that his shot stopping and ball playing abilities were still world class. We also witnessed that he wasn't comfortable with crosses.
- Barcelona never dropped him, they tried to convince him to stay even after Monaco broke their agreement.
- Monaco signed him and Liverpool tried to sign.
- He was in a legal imbroglio with Monaco, that's the main reason why he only joined us in October.

So he was the 6th best goalkeeper? That's pretty good in my opinion.

He won't do that. One morning we'll just wake up and see a picture of him wearing white, hugging Benitez. The man being cheated on is always the last to know.
It feels awful knowing he's going. Up till now I refused to believe it, out of sheer stubbornness of belief that he would stay.
Hate admitting it, but he's gone.
:(

He made himself clear. He's on vacation... fully deserved vacation I might add.

Only if he's told us whether he's staying or going before he's gone, we can't have him fecking us around any more.

From the point of view of what us fans know (I'm sure club knows a whole lot more) it's starting to get really annoying now.

Whole month to the window plus Benitez is coming... you know you can't trust Benny if you're in any way connected to United.

I'm more in a 'I don't know' than 'he's fecking us over' camp to be honest. Perhaps Dave just like Rooney in his time wants to see United's ambitions in a market before making any decision. I think that would be wise for a goalkeeper with personal achievements very close to being best in the world.

If I was his agent and in fully neutral stance I would definitely advise to let others throw their chips first.
