If he was definitely leaving surely he'd have mentioned it by now? Either he's genuinely undecided or we're still negotiating the fee. If it was as done and dusted as some people seem to think so, surely it would be wrapped up before he goes in holiday?

It'll hit the papers as soon as he's confirmed to us he's not signing a new deal surely? I'm baffled we've not heard any news yet. The season's over, we must have had all the meetings we're going to have with him and his agent...

Real will announce his and Benitez's arrival together, I reckon.

Yeah, it's really not looking good. He's either still not fully decided or they're waiting to announce it with/shortly after the manager.

Or maybe he's staying and we shouldn't jump the gun speculating his departure is definitive.

Hate to buck the trend but IF he does go, is anyone else getting kinda excited to see who we bring in?

Also, Benitez being at Real () makes me feel so much better about him potentially going - like, you wanna leave what we're building here, under Van Gaal, with these fans, and go play for Benitez's Real, with those fans...? Fine, feck off then.

No I'm scared as feck that we are going to make Valdes number 1 instead of moving for a proven world class keeper like Cech.

I really want us to push for the title next season and I don't feel comfortable with a guy who "couldn't handle the pressure" at Barcelona and is terrible at dealing with long balls and crosses, on top of that he is back from a very bad injury.

Valdes is very good with the ball, no disputing that, but I really hope this club doesn't act cheap and goes for the best available replacement.

I agree, leaving us for Benitez + the worst fans in the world would actually make me feel sorry for De Gea as I feel he is going to regret it at some point.

Hopefully we'll bring in Lloris. If not, either Cech or Valdes would be ok for me. I haven't watched the likes of Leno or other young talented keepers enough to say anything about them.

If Valdes isnt proven world class i dont know who is. 3 Champions League titles including against arguably the best team we have ever fielded and 6 La Liga titles against a Ronaldo backed Madrid do not happen with anything other than a world class keeper.

His injury is a question mark but he was in the form of his life the season before.

I hate to be pessimistic but if he was staying don't you think he would have said so by now?
Not really, otherwise that would be basically telling the club to offer me any old contract and i will sign

I look at it the other way around. He hasnt said that he wants to leave, which tells me he is still interested in staying, maybe just after a tad more money.

He hasn't said anything either way. Never said that he wants to play for Real, and not recently said he's wanting to stay at United.

Humbly weighing up his options.

Maybe he wants to run his contract down? Has anyone considered that. It is a win-win for him. He gets to move to a club of his choice and also get a huge signing on bonus. Also, if things to work out well at Madrid under Benitez, he can always resign for us.

Also, another year will provide enough time for Madrid to get rid of Casillas and get him in as first choice.

I think the silence just means it's more likely he's off. It doesn't sound like money is the issue here so if he was staying he'd have signed our generous contract by now. More likely is we've told him to keep his mouth shut while we negotiate a fee with Madrid. It would make things a whole lot easier for Madrid if DDG came out publicly and said he wanted to leave. Or maybe Real are waiting for Benitez to be confirmed before making a bid.

He's off, remember Thiago? Toni Kroos? This is exactly how they played it. "No comment", "only God knows about my future" etc. It's become boring as far as I'm concerned, I hope we get a replacement [I prefer Leno] quick and get on with it.

Come to terms lads, he's off. This just smells like a departure. May as well just accept it. "We haven't heard anything yet" - true, but come on. De Gea's silence speaks volume.

For me the silence is one of two things: he's waiting to speak with Rafa, or, more likely, they're holding it off until Rafa is confirmed so that De Gea can be unveiled his first official big name signing.

He is still contracted here for another year dont forget so the club might have told him he is staying and communicated that to Madrid.
So Madrid should come back with a huge offer at least.

He also might have said he wants to mull it over while he's on holidays.

To me he isnt gone yet, he might choose to go but Im holding on to the hope he won't go.

Crikey, there's a name I haven't seen in a while. How ya been man?

But....but...."he's not strong enough for the EPL"...."he doesn't do well on crosses"...."Barca never conceded because they always had the ball"....

The only concern I have with Valdes is him not returning to form post injury, but some people on here underrate him immensely - he was one of thee best GK's in the world for a good 2-3 seasons IMO. Fantastic shot stopper.

He might initially find the physicality of the league a bit different, but he'll adapt.

I suppose people are just a bit scared - our record with signing injured players (Falcao, Hargreaves, Saha etc.) isn't too great (Ruud aside), and with our struggles to fill the Schmeichel void, it's still a fear/big risk.

I guess I'd prefer Cech as well - EPL proven, solid, could end up being another VdS for us. But it's not like I'll start shitting it if it has to be Valdes. The guy was (hopefully is!) class, and a great distributor.

I'm just finding the whole thing annoying now, flipping 'I'm on vacation now and we'll see about my future', well there's £200 k p/w offer sat on the table at united so there's nothing to think about there, so you must be holding out for Madrid to get their house in order to push for and screw us on the price for your transfer then.

I just hope he's told us he's off and not still stringing us along, we have a really early start to the season, and 2 crucial CL games, we need to get things sorted out ASAP the keeper especially.

All good my end thanks, sounds great, good on you!

I think he's genuinely undecided. I think his head will be telling him that he's got it very good at United, adored by the fans, #1 spot undisputed and at a club that is going to be investing with a target of winning everything. He's also in a unified squad that seems to have a genuine bond among the Spanish speaking contingent and two particularly close friends in Mata and Herrera.

However his heart is in Madrid. His girlfriend, friends and family live there and it's his home. Real is the most ambitious move in the Hispanic world and he probably feels that he will only make the Spanish gloves his if he is playing for Real or Barca. That being said he also knows what a circus the place is and a manager change (from Ancelloti to Benitez no less) has got to have him a bit apprehensive. Also from moving to a family club to a dressing room that is notoriously poisonous with egos has got to be something to hesitate on. Not least that he will be attempting to take the starting spot of a man who's media stranglehold is only matched by Murdoch.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to stay but feels that he needs the option open to move in the future. We want to nail him down to longer than just a couple of years and won't agree to a reasonable buyout clause.

I think his ideal scenario would be to stay at United for another two or three seasons but that's a very difficult scenario to negotiate with just a year left on his contract. It's either move this year while he has the power or in 4/5 years as Real can't sign him next year anyway.

If Valdez was currently with any another team, he would definitely be on our list of 'sought after' goal keepers. Its just how this window works, we value our own players less and players at other teams more. Cech just warmed the bench for the whole year, and is on top of people's transfer list.

I wont feel sorry for him but do think he may live to regret the decision if he joins Real.

In the case of Valdes I would say it's almost the exact opposite.

Horse Shit fecking average keeper at best

I wouldnt pay 22p for him.

I'm a better goalkeeper than Valdes and i'm cheaper. Fergie sign me up.

I think he actually might be the worst keeper in the world at a top club.

Even the Barca chairman admitted he was shit recently

The new Taibi

Almunia is a better keeper.

If Valdes wasn't catalan he wouldnt be near that team.

I cannot think of a GK at a top European side inferior to him.

Valdes is an absolutely pathetic goalkeeper

He's tosswank, it's a mystery how they haven't replaced him with a better goalkeeper.

When he was at Barcelona he was considered a joke on this forum. Now he has signed for us I read people saying he was one of the best keepers in Spain and an important part of their success.

The only logical reason as to why DDG is still waiting to make his move, is to see who and what United do in the transfer window. Mendes is obviously talking to Madrid and the lack of any bid from them can only tell us that DDG is still undecided. DDG knows he is up there with the best in the world and, lets be honest, United are hardly ripping up tress on the pitch at the moment. You can understand that he wants to win more trophies and this United squad, as it stands, is well short of achieving that.
For me, if he was to give Madrid the nod then they would bid for him.

Wow! That's some impressive abuse Valdez got here in the past, but I don't agree with those comments. He has great reflexes, he's probably the best GK around with his feet, and has generally pulls off amazing saves from time to time. Anyway, even if De Gea leaves, GK won't be a recruiting priority for me. It remains - CB, CDM, CF, and then RB in that order.

We won't hear anything at least until they install their new manager.

He won't mention it, why would he? He will just sign a contract with them after we've accepted their offer, that's all.

Presumably other posters. Different opinions. What's your point?

Given that we spunked 60m on Di Maria who has failed miserably (and he has), it would be interesting, assuming your theory is right, who De Gea would consider a good enough signing to influence him to stay.

With Benitez being announced imminently one would expect that a decision will be taken really soon regarding his future.

I'm just clutching at straws really, trying to find some glimmer of hope that he'll stay. The fact he didn't already sign yet or state anything gives me a little hope, that's all. I still think he's 95% likely to leave this summer.
