Would prefer Lloris over Cech, he's five years younger. With Cech we'll be needing another gk in a couple of years.
He's 33. He's got more than two years left easily. I think he can get to 37 like Buffon has.

I don't think he acted gracefully, he should have come out and said he was off and not let people cling on false hope. Still good luck to him at Madrid.
I don't think De Gea's quality made the team change tack to deliberately rely on him. He's an excellent goalkeeper and he bailed us out more than a few times, but that was more a product of his own talent showing through than us sitting back and inviting other sides to test him. All sides concede chances, we just have a keeper who can save ones that would otherwise be a goal against. For how much longer i don't know, but the only way we would not be weakened by him leaving is if we signed Neuer or Courtois. We would be improving the rest of the side regardless of whether he stays or not, his POTY win was just a well deserved acknowledgement of a fine season.
Yep and Van der Sar was 34 when he signed for us.He's 33. He's got more than two years left easily. I think he can get to 37 like Buffon has.
And there it is - just 1 hour after my post aboveJust awaiting the 'he is understood to have said his goodbyes to his teammates' reports now
How will you feel if he decides to stay now?Going to be fun watching Messi and Suarez humiliate him next season, Makes my head hurt reading comments about wishing him the best, this guy is a grade A cnut.
If family is so important to him, why the hell did he even come to England in the fist place?
Agree - without him we probably wouldn't have made top 4 this season - and that alone is worth more than whatever extra we would have got last summerfeck off, I'd rather we had him for this season than get more money last season. Whats the point in that?

Calling a player a cnut for wanting to return to his home with his family and ply for the biggest club in the world, though? Bit extreme, no?I know he isn't staying or he would have signed the big money contract we offered him.
Anyway, I'm not really bothered about players leaving as long as we can get a top like for like replacement, I'm just scared of seeing a 2009 repeat in which we replaced Ronaldo and Tevez with Valencia and Owen![]()

Index has taken another dive, oh ye of little faith.
You lot are going to look a right bunch of cnuts when he signs the new contract. I hope he doesn't read this Forum.
What if we signed Hummels and Chiellini...? Fairly sure that'd improve us more than having de Gea in goal behind Smalling and Jones.
We haven't had a dominant CB pairing for 2 seasons - the same two seasons that our keeper won POTY. That isn't a coincidence.
Losing de Gea puts such a firm emphasis on the back line that strengthening it becomes paramount, and I'd rather that than keep relying on the keeper to bail us out.
A dominant, World Class CB pairing is more important than a shot stopper like DdG, it's what we need to move toward, and in his absence I think the club is more likely to prioritize that.
Just my opinion of course, no worries if you disagree.
They are the biggest club in the world.Firstly they are not the biggest club in the world, secondly he shouldn't have come here in the first place then.

If we want him we will get him.You needn't worry. You won't be spending any money on Lloris.
Of course they're the biggest club in Spain. They've been the worse team for the last 10 years or so but they're the bigger club. There are not even the biggest in Spain any more, but this is De Gea thread.

The longer this goes on the weaker the club's negotiating position gets regardless of whether he speaks or doesn't. Whether that is down to him refusing to sign a new deal that has been put on the table before now or the club letting it get to this point with a bizarre extension policy (or indeed a combination of the two) we'll probably never know. That probably wouldn't have helped the club though given they were likely still negotiating with Madrid.
DDG can't win here. If he says nothing he gets accused of being dishonest, if he's honest he gets accused of behaving badly and trying to force a move.

Home as in the city, not the club.Wanting to return home is nonsense peddled by the agent/media/whoever. He is not going back to Atleti, he is going to Real. I wonder if his desire to "go back home" would be as strong if Real weren't in the picture.
Yeah, Real are the biggest club in the world, I don't get how people can argue otherwise.I don't really get the 'Biggest' in the world argument. It's so broad. If we're going for best, then Real are right up there. And we're just not. When you add in the girlfriend, family, weather and all the other annoying factors in their favour then it becomes undeniably the better option. It's surely just delusion saying otherwise.

You think he would go back to Atletico Madrid or Rayo Vallecano if Madrid were not after him? Being back home is an added benefit. Anyway, he left it to come here.
Now in Diego Costa's case I can understand as he wants to go back to Atletico Madrid.
