For the money Real are alleged to be talking about I think we keep him for another year, play him regularly and let him go on a free next season if he still insists on returning to Madrid. In the mean time we get Ronaldo to take a run at de Gea's girlfriend.

£13m is a piss take....It only confirms to me that Real are a joke of a club and feel they can bully clubs into selling their best players.

Hope Woody got the balls to tell Real to fck off!

Why are you getting angry at Madrid?? They know the situation and bid what they think is good offer from their POV. Do you think United would bid more if we werebin their place??

I understand your sentiment but it would be very bad business and on top of that would damage the reputation of the club. If Real wants to pay 25-30mil euro and DDG really wants to leave we should sell. However if DDG is a true professional and does his utmost best next year, not selling is worth the consideration. However benching him while paying his wages, getting a replacement incl. his wages in and losing out on transfer fee would be ridiculously expensive.

I dont buy it. He has signed a contract. We can expect him to honor it.

With Euros, Casillas being on decline etc DDG will have to perform to be Spains no 1.

How much is a good season of CL worth? 35 mill pounds?? Thats the price for DDG in my books.

It's not just DDG but the way they generally conduct themselves in the transfer market....what peeves me off more their blatant tapping up players with no regards to the club.

Come on, don't be rational and get in the "feck Madrid" wagon. Of course we would’ve offered them his market value (which is something only caf posters know btw).

How reliable is this guy Ladyman anyway? Because it doesn't seem likely that they haven't submitted a bid yet.

He can leave for the cost of an adequate replacement. There's no way we can replace him adequately with anything less than £25m I wouldn't have thought, not that I have any idea who that might be.

I doubt that is anything more than another journo looking for Twitter hits. Even RM can't be as unprofessional to offer such a low fee. They will be well aware how much United want. Mendez, unfortunately, is no clown, and will be briefing both clubs.

If it's true at the derisory fee of 13mill, please Woody, don't say anything, just hang up the phone, thank you, signed every United fan in the world.

He won't have a lot, generally agents get between 10%-15% of the transfer fees, it's best for Mendes to push De Gea to sign a new contract and have a gentlemen agreement between him and Woodward for the sell.

Mendes will get exactly as much as he wants, the usual rules don't apply to him. As I said, c.f. Bebe.

Hopefully, it's about him loving Madrid so much he wants to go back there ASAP, only not to Athletico but Real.
Just wondering where on earth they heard about this? Wish it were true:D

He won't have as much as he wants, his fee will depend on how much Real Madrid pay to United and how big De Gea signing bonus is. A big transfer is the best option for Mendes.

Should've convinced De Gea to sign an extension then. There's no way that Van Gaal would hang on to an unhappy player; he's said as much so what's going on? Maybe Mendes has promised Real a cut-price deal on De Gea in return for what?

I don't understand the mentality of people saying we should keep him on the bench for the remainder of his contract and leave on a free next. Would you throw away ~20 million if you owned a large company?
People aren't saying keep him on the bench they are saying keep him and play him. At least the ones I've read are saying keep him to play.

When did he say that. He was willing to let players go who he had no intention of playing. I never heard him say he was willing to allow a player who he wanted to keep go.

He regularly appears on MUTV as one of their recognized Journalists on their show 'Utd in Press' talking about transfers and the like.

The Courtois bit would be very interesting if anywhere near true.

"Hang on, if Real buy a guy my sort of age, how am I ever getting a move there"

Let's hope Real start sniffing around him more.

Knowing our luck, it'll just push De Gea's price down somehow

I really can't see the downside (aside from losing a goalkeeper of Dave's ability) of letting him go next summer on a free if he wants to move to Madrid that badly.

Why bother taking a fee less than £30million for him? Dave will have to perform well in the coming season for international reasons, regardless if he's still wanting away or not. £30million or less is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Keep him, keep our excellent goalkeeper for one more season (hopefully improving our league position and enjoying a CL run) and then he can move on if he wishes.

Absolutely mind-boggling to think we need to accept a 'fee' for him just because he wants away. The fact it's only ONE year he has to wait makes it even more unnecessary to worry about, for all parties involved.

It's probably De Gea who doesn't want to sign or Madrid will buy one of Mendes' players for a lot of money.

When did he say that. He was willing to let players go who he had no intention of playing. I never heard him say he was willing to allow a player who he wanted to keep go.

He said that:
Van Gaal, when asked if he would let Di Maria leave on compassionate grounds, said: "I am always like that. When you see my history, that's part of my philosophy. A player is not just a man who kicks the ball from A to B. His environment is influencing him.
And he added that sometimes it was complicated to allow them to leave because of the commercial interest of the club.

So what's the point of signing anyone on a contract? He gives somebody a 5 year contract then the person says he wants to leave so somebody offers a pittance because we all know that LVG will let them go. It just sounds a really naive thing for him to come out with.

If its anything below £20m, we would as well keep him for one more year. Its pathetic

He believes that a truly unhappy/unsettled players isn't useful to the group. Also LVG doesn't say that he won't try to fix the problem, he just say that in last resort the player will be allowed to leave. In my opinion he is right.

If he wants to live in Madrid, why isn't he pushing to go back to Athletico?

I've been wondering the exact same thing.

They won La Liga last season and were in the CL final, why not just go back there?

It'd be like if Scholes had moved to, say, Juve at 25, then announced he 'needed to go home to Manchester for family reasons' and then pushed a move to City.

Laughable.

Because Madrid are a bigger and better club I guess? Nearly every player on the planet would choose Madrid over Atletico.

Well, no. Because United are a bigger club. Atletico aren't.

Either he doesn't really care about his ties to Atletico, he wants to join the better team or, more unlikely I'd imagine that Atletico are not interested, and prefer Oblak.

I think it's more a combination of the first two.

Well, no. Because United are a bigger club. Atletico aren't.

Put another way. Imagine Rooney was at Everton, and then signed for Real Madrid. He got homesick and wanted to go back to Liverpool, even though Everton are still competitive he pushes for a move to Liverpool.

I don't really have an issue with it, but I can certainly see why it grinds some people the wrong way.

That's a good plan!!!

Woody, are you listening?

I'd start and end discussions for the summer right there and then if the upcoming bid is anything close to £13 million.
