He's a cnut.

We need cnuts.

Diego Costa's quite happy being a cnut with his shiny new premier league winners medal whilst we cling on to 4th with pansies like chicharito and Evans

He would be a great player for that 5-2-3 system Van Gaal has a hard on for

------Ramos---Smalling---Otamendi----
Valencia----------------------------Young
----------Herrera----Schweinsteiger-------

Lindegaard/(new GK)

Jones/Rojo/McNair/Shaw/Blind (New RWB like Clyne)

Carrick/ Fellaini/(Blind)

Di Maria/ Januzaj/ Pereira/ Wilson/ (New striker)

Madrid will probably go for otamendi if they let us have Ramos. They most likely still get the best out of the deal.

I'd prefer Otamendi over Ramos if I had the choice.

Getting both would only make sense if we'd play we 3 at the back imo

Why was he not even in the WC 2014 squad?
Partially because Sabella was retarded and partially because he spent the year 2014 before the world cup playing on loan at Atletico Mineiro because Valencia couldn't register him after they bought him so they loaned him out.

I'm on a similar wavelength. Real have been rumoured to be interested in Otamendi.

Anyone else wondering if those whole thing is just Woody indulging in some willy-waving via strategic leaks to the press? Same sort of bluster that ended up with Moyes making an eejit of himself with that knowing smile about Bale.

I've always had the opinion Ramos is better at playing the ball out of defence that actually being a great defender.

Otamendi looks the better buy to me as well. He's obviously less proven at the highest level, but he's at a better age and I'm skeptical of players who have already achieved everything at a huge club like Madrid and are 30 now.

So now people prefer a CB that had one good season in Europe and is 27 to arguably the best CB in the world? OK.

Or maybe just maybe we can win twice.
Make them give us a player they don't really want to lose, but will do to get DDG in the knowledge that Otemendi is on the market, and they're so dam cock-sure of themselves that they think he's bound to want to join them instead of us, but it could be we'll pay more in wages than them, and the lure of ADM, and Rojo as teammates is too much for him to resist.

Madrid could then be forced into paying over the odds for a player like Boateng, or Dante.

He's a feckin thug who is always a red card waiting to happen. He's been playing for Madrid for years and has never learned to curb his temper. He's one of the scummiest players in world football. Skrtel with hair ffs. And we are gonna give THEM money for him PLUS De Gea??!! Jesus Christ.

That is the RedCafe brain trust for you. We should definitely buy James McCarthy but not one of the best defenders of his generation, a player with the ability on the ball to fit Van Gaal's philosophy perfectly.

Go figure.

Ramos has been voted into the world team of the year by his fellow pros five times!

125 caps for arguably the greatest international team of all time.

3 times La Liga defender of the year.

4 time inductee into the UEFA team of the year.

I'm sure the interest is legit. Makes sense that we'd give it a try but I highly doubt this is something we can pull off

He's a great defender, but it's a lot for a 29 year old. I'd prefer Otamendi because he's younger and would likely be cheaper, but I'd still love Ramos here.

Come on folks. Highly rated Madrid player not happy with their current situation, Madrid growing tired and allegedly want to sell him. We all know how that turned out last season, so I think there may be some truth in this.

...so that means he'll move to PSG.

Ok, somewhere during the muppet euphoria, I completely overlooked the money that is being asked for (46.5m pounds). That is seriously high, I now really wouldn't mind us paying 35m (possibly lesser if negotiated) for Otamendi and be done with it. Also fleece Madrid for De Gea, instead of getting our pants pulled in a two way negotiation with them.

So how good is he as right-back? When did he last play there regularly?

1: I don't agree Ramos is the best CB in the world that is massively overrating him (makes a lot of mistakes and prone for the red card)
2: Otamendi may be a late bloomer doesn't mean he isn't a good player
3: Ramos is 29 which means he is nearing the end of his career whilst Otamendi is 2 years younger
4: Ramos is a player with quite an ego who has had it all at Madrid so might not be as motivated as a player like Otamendi if he comes here (and he'll start making a fuss a lot quicker if things are not going his way)
5: His wages will be through the roof (10 million a year is being reported)

Signing Otamendi makes more sense for all these reasons

Oh I'd be very happy with us signing Ramos. He's a quality all round footballer. Just some minor reservations.

Apparently Madrid is asking for £45m ...

 CRAZY !

They will probably ask for De Gea and £25m or something they can go do one as far as I'am concerned.

Ramos is 29 years old and on ridiculously high wages

Hope we don't go for him if those are the conditions. I'd happily pay £25m for him but not £45m... Much rather have Otamendi in that case. In fact much rather have Otamendi in any case.

Why? Both are superior to anything we have at the back.

Because that would be overkill and Van Gaal isn't going to reward Smalling with his fantastic breakthrough season by benching him and replacing him with a £30m+ worldclass CB.

That would like £60m investment in centreback whilst I agree we need to improve in that area throwing away everything we have there isn't nesc. A good experienced CB partner for Smalling with Jones/Rojo and McNair as back-up is adequate for the centreback. So it will either be Otamendi or Ramos but not both.

Unless ofc there are plans to move to a formation with 3 at the back in which case signing both would make sense.

If it comes down to a choice between Ramos or Otamendi I'am inclined to go for Otamendi atm especially considering the amounts involved.
