It's really irritating because many people and sites will start to use it as if it's the actual fee.

They're not backing down on it either.

Turning your nose at Sergio Ramos. I don't get this place at times.

Exactly. World Cup, European Championship, La Liga and Champions League winning stalwart defender. Capable of playing in midfield or right back, scores a lot of goals and is a character that has all the hallmarks of a crowd favourite. Don't want. Each to their own, especially if you don't like him as a person but to me, it's a no brainer if he's even remotely available.

That said, until he and Schweini are holding our shirts at Old Trafford I refuse to believe.

A dream signing imo. I would actually get his name on the back of the home shirt next season if he was here. I love his antics on the pitch. He would teach Jones and Smalling invaluable lessons on how to con refs etc which is exactly what they are lacking.

Ok here is an interesting angle, rumour has it Varane has been promised a significant role next season in the first 11, so one of Ramos/Pepe is going to have to make way.

EDIT: Ballbag has just killed this one!

I really don't know why we get suckered into these transfers with players that want a better contract. Happens all the time.

I don't think we have any say in the matter, the agents just put up our name and the media runs with it.

No for nothing we have the we don't comment on transfer rumours policy. In fact if the club hasn't reported it, there is basically nothing to go on. But hey we are muppets so we don't care :D

Yet again we're being uses as a bargaining chip for an improved contract.
I'm still sceptical.

Enjoy your improved contract Ramos.

The BBC won't publish an article such as this without United briefing it themselves. Woodward has clearly sent this message out.

We're probably interested in him for sure, and have made it clear to Real Madrid that we're making an offer.
Who's to say that he's not using that offer as a bit of leverage?

Which makes it even more concerning then, as Woodword is getting well and truly suckered in.

Didn't the Gundogan done to United articles a few weeks back appear on both Sky and BBC?

I'm not saying Ramos doesn't want a new contract. I'm saying the reason for the press frenzy is not because Ramos wants a new contract, it's because United briefed the British press.

Who knows. It might be a distraction ploy

Even if Woodie sent this message out, my gut tells me he is being taken for a ride. From the time I heard Ramos was "offered to Barcelona" a few days ago, it seemed like his agent playing games to get him a better contract.

I would prefer Otamendi...the player (and agent) clearly stated they want to leave and he wants to play for us. Ramos will not leave Madrid IMO.

Not sure about BBC but us being interested in Gundogan was indeed reported by Sky I believe. Doesn't matter though, my point was everyone saying this is just about x player getting a better contract is wrong. And the reason for that is that we're the ones that briefed, not the player's agent.

We don't know that and he might actually have his own intentions. Point I made though was that this story didn't come from Bastian's or Ramos' agent. It came from Woodward himself.

And last part we don't know. They never said which club.

just seen a tweet from Gulliem Balague saying Ramos has a 200 Million (euro's) buy out clause!?

Why are people suddenly against players because they're not saints? Yes, he fouls, yes, he winds strikers up? So?
It's because we've never had player like that in our team..............:wenger:

It's baffling.

You don't understand. Signing Bebe, Zaha's and Valencia's is the way to go. We all want those days back. Feck the quality players and leaders that have won it all. They can all feck right off.

Woody may well have let BBC know to put pressure on Madrid in terms of the Dea Gea sale, nothing more. Ramos won't leave Madrid. Pepe will make way for Varane if need be.

I think that we can be certain of two things here. 1. We are interested. 2. He will stay at Real Madrid. Otamendi is the one that we will probably end up with IMO, and I would be happy with that.

Yeah but not 200 mllion Euro's! Either way i think it's safe to say he's after his last big pay cheque. United is just a pawn.

All those spanish players especially at Madrid and Barcelona have ridiculous buy-off clauses. In fact i think they are legaly requirred to put a buy-out clause in the contract so for these star players the release clauses are made ridiculously high so nobody would ever pay them.

Alba has a 150 million release clause, Messi is like 250 million or more

IF we are interested then there must be something coming from Ramos' team to say he's interested.

It's more than likely just a bargaining tool for a new contract.

I'd much rather we go for other more plausible targets like Otemendi.

Not sure I understand our transfer policy.

I really thought we'd have had a list of players that we were interested in and would be looking to get in early. I thought the Depay signing indicated that.

It seems like we are following the scattergun approach of the last two years though.

In truth we could sign Messi and people would still moan.

So this apparent interest might be more about letting Madrid know that 13m isn't enough for De Gea, contract expiring or not.

Hmmm...

You know absolutely nothing about Ramos. I suggest you inform yourself better next time you want to badmouth a player.

Ramos is an absolute saint off the pitch. He's one of the players that is the most involved with charities in poor regions of the world and also a Unicef ambassador.

Most people think they can form an opinion about someone by seeing him play a game of footy on the pitch for 90 minutes a week. (Which I even doubt you have tbh)

The biggest players have those numbers. It's essentially a number for the sake of it as it's required in the contract. Means nothing.

I do agree he'll just sign a new contract though. I think there is something in the schweinsteiger rumors but nothing in this.

Niether Ramos nor his agent was responsible for the brief this morning to British press though. That's classic Woodward.

Question is really why would he makes such a briefing?

Is it because we are looking at other targets and thus causing distraction but won't mind signing Bastian and Ramos? So instead of them using us for bigger pay deals, we're using them to push down prices on our other targets (read Otamendi and Schneiderlin for example). Should it then happen that we can actually sign Ramos or Swine's Tiger then we've already made it clear to them that we want them. Just a hunch.

EDIT: Add to that it pushes Madrid into a corner to give us a better deal for De Gea

I think more than Depay it was LVG's comments that gave that impression.

He was like everything been decided, who comes in who goes out etc.. even before season ended.

Otamendi and Hummels were our main CB targets probably but since Hummels is staying and we might get Ramos who i think LvG rates higher than Otamendi it's no surprise we are testing the water.

Fed up of this "physically weak for the PL" crap .... Loads of La Liga players have moved here and done fine, its a cliched line that gets thrown around for a joke nowadays
