Not considering his age and the amount we're reported to be paying. I'd rathar pay that for a younger and better defender on Otamendi. Ramos is a better footballer though.
I'd rather go for the better defender and the born winner. That's Ramos.

Otamendi is like 18 months younger, can we stop acting like there's a 10 year gap?

I must be in a small minority this potential transfer does not excite in the least.

I've completely missed whatever you're referring to re Benatia but it's too early to know if they were wrong re Gundogan.
there was this guy named jim white last season who said benatia was coming to us last season, then like a week later he signed for bayern.

Big wages, fat fee for a 29 year old who's won it all and has nothing left to prove. Would be a bonkers signing.

Unfortunately our transfer strategy post Fergie has descended into such a farce that this doesn't surprise me. I think only Herrera, Shaw and Depay are in the mould of Utd signings of years past.

Same here. Have never rated him as an actual defender. I'd rathar see us sign younger and better defender in Otamendi. I'm not liking the bit of a scutter gun approach we seem to be taking in transfer market recently instead of looking at long term.

Salam and Ramdan Kareem.

Also Rojo and Blind.

Ws salaams. Ramadaan Mubarak.

I like the idea of Ramos. He's an absolute bastard. We simply don't have enough bastards. Hell, I don't even think Rooney has told a referee to feck off in ages. I'm all for your nice guy Juan Matas and Ander Herreras, but sometimes you just need a Sergio Ramos. Someone who isn't afraid to punch someone in the face, for no reason at all other than having the sheer audacity to challenge for the same ball.

Sergio!

Also Rojo and Blind.

True. Maybe Rojo was a bit pricey for someone's who's not really intended for the first XI (when you factor in Nani's wages and loan for free).

But when you look at Mata, Fellaini, Falcao, Di Maria you could never see Fergie making those signings at those fees/wages. No way we'd be looking into Ramos, Schweinsteiger etc too.

Falcao and Di Maria signings might indicate that Woodward wants splashy "big name" transfers above all else.

I agree we need a bastard or two, just not sure Ramos is the 'right' bastard for us.

If we had of kept up the transfer strategy we were operating under Fergie, a man who is regarded the best manager of all time and could make the most average of players look like word beaters, well then we'd be truly screwed. This 'United signing' thing is also a load of rubbish. It's only because we had the same manager for 27 years that we seen a similar trend with signings every summer. It has nothing to do with how United should operate forever and it's that kind of romanticised talk that landed us with David Moyes.

100% agree.

WHy do you think he wouldnt go for Ramos or Schweinsteiger.
Also that stuff of signing of United of old is tiresome. Its not the same United as when Fergie was around. Also Fergie made a lot of mistakes in transfer market since Ronaldo left. Basically neglected the midfield and gave some players more chances then they deserved.
Falcao was loaned, we thought he is still a wc striker of old but he isnt, ADM was the best Madrid player when they won the CL, it didnt work out this season but hopefully it will the next, Fellaini is a good player to have in squad and Mata's transfer has worked out in general.
So no, I wouldnt say it was such a farce..

Indeed, not to mention that from 07 onwards, Fergie's transfer record was fairly abysmal, to say the least.

I've changed my mind now, from "no chance" to "might happen". I don't think there will be many clubs chasing Ramos, considering the price Madrid will put on him, and his age. He's also not very likeable I reckon, although I quite like him.

Falcao maybe, but I've no idea why people harp on about Di Maria in that mould. LvG flat out named him as a player he wanted at the club before we were even firmly linked to him.

erm, surely we wouldn't be bidding unless Ramos has defo given us the green light yeah?

Like Donkey Kong?

Spot on.

It's almost depressing that age is being brought into this. He's 29. Yeah, he's won it all but he doesn't strike me as the kind of character happy to sit on a paycheck for the next 5-6 seasons. He actually strikes me as the kind of annoying, win at all cost git that we lack.

Ian Herbert has said we've made an opening offer of £30mil. This is happening.

I must admit a few hours ago I posted that I believed he was using us to get a new contract with Real Madrid, but this is interesting...

He is probably last Real Madrid's first choice defender I would sign. Varane, Carvajal and probably even Marcelo(if we didn't have Shaw, but not that he is better than Marcelo) would all be more exciting signings than him for me.

I might add that Ramos is one of few players I despise though.

A bit like Keane isn't it? Not had a player like him since. He clearly has the same temperament as him too, 19 red cards back it up :nervous::lol:
