What do you think of Sergio Ramos as a potential signing?

I think this all started with them offering a stupid amount for De Gea. Because we were heavily linked with Otamendi, they bid for De Gea and all of a sudden Woody decided that he's not having that. I think it will end with them paying a good fee for De Gea and us signing Otamendi.

Agree. Can't shake the feeling that Ramos is playing us, but would be supremely happy if prove wrong.

He's been healthy and unused, so should be ready to play again. If we don't sell him this summer it will be a clear sign that LvG has him in his plans.

Am sure this has been said elsewhere but the fact that we didn't go for Clyne may indicate that Rafa may be giving him a second chance?

That's the impression I get as well. At a minimum, LvG doesn't seem to rate RB as a high priority as some of our resident fantasy experts here.

I said it several time this year, with Van Gaal not playing in the first year means nothing, for all we know Van gaal is tryig to modelling him. Or maybe he can't stand him.

Hmm depends tough i wonder how a midfield of Schneiderlin/Schweinsteiger/Herrera would work.

Guess:

Schweinsteiger - Herrera

Schneiderlin
But that would be very passive/control, although LvG wouldn't mind that.

That is a very solid midfield, with that kind of protection Herrera will get into double figures.

If Rafa is back to his best like he was a couple of years ago, he would be at least Clyne's equal if not better. He would team up nicely with Memphis or Di Maria. Tony V (I like him actually) can serve as squad backup at wing/RB (where he belongs at this stage in his career).

Agreed. Valencia is not as bad as some have made him out to be. Between a fit Rafa and Val, we should be ok.

Yep, he definitely needs to stay healthy. If LvG doesn't go out and buy and RB it can surely be interpreted that he's happy with what he already has going forward.

Huge fan of his, always have been. Always had great potential and at one point it looked like he was going to be one of Europes best, the 12/13 season only Zaba was arguably better.

You cant rely on his fitness/availability and AV isnt a fullback. We do really need a proper healthy full back

As i said earlier, I'm happy to trust LvG's judgement on this. If he doesn't buy one, he's clearly confident that an improved Rafa and adequate Val as backup are sufficient.

How things have changed since 2002 eh? :D

De Gea paper talks have taken a backseat to the Ramos saga. Intentional move by us?

I think it's useful for both parties, we're using him to get what we want and he's using us to get a better contract.

Except that at the end of the day, we'll need a centerhalf (and a new keeper) and this doesn't take us forward at all.

Defensively/control it will be perfect. But i think it will be a little bit hard on the forwards with so little support coming from behind. Could easily work great, but we would rely A LOT on the wingers beating their players. Although with Depay and Di Maria (normally) that wouldn't be a problem.

Was just on his Twitter page and in the last few hours he's followed a clear United supporter. The last tweet I can see from said follower is a reply to an article about Ramos saying "so he's going? :D" The guy tweeted that with Ramos mentioned in and Ramos followed him.

Although saying that pretty sure our last few transfers have been confirmed on social media before the club have said anything. Shaw updated his twitter biography to MUFC player before it was announced. Angel Di Maria's partner was liking United related things on Instagram. Herrera updated his Twitter header to a picture of him and Sir Bobby before it was announced also.

Yeah, I'm a muppet and yeah, it's a slow day.

:wenger:

Is that true?

I might need a "session" soon.

Fantastic share. These snippets of news keep us going.

It's true yeah. Taken screenshots just in case any of them remove it. First image is proof Ramos followed him. Second image is proof the guy tweeted about Ramos leaving.

Obviously it means sweet feck all but it is muppet season!

Put them in spoilers as to not clog the thread.

I'd like to say stop getting desperate but this happened with both Rojo and Falcao.

He is teasing us :(. I still cant imagine him playing for us. Di Maria and Falcao were one pair of shoes, but Ramos would be colossal.

Given the general intellect level of footballers, I won't rule out Ramos following that United fan based on his profile pic and thinking it is Memphis :D

Memphis also liked comments from MUFC and LFC supporters on Facebook :D

I'm sure we have a backup option, I think we'll pay Otamendi's release clause if it comes down to it.

Hopefully the backup options wait, and we don't drag things too long. We do want players early as possible. Qualifying to the CL is not a given either. We need to set ourselves up for August.

I think this whole thing will be resolved one way or the other before Real Madrid leave for their tour in a couple of weeks.
