After Di Maria throwing a tantrum and Ramos using us we have to stay firm with DDG, if Madrid want him then Perez pays a WR fee on a deadline we set or we publicly tell them to piss off.

This De Gea situation has been handled really well by both him and us. We've driven a hard bargain with Madrid and if DDG does go it will be for more than it might have been. Plus if De Gea ends up staying then both he and us have handled things with enough class for him to easily keep playing well for us with no hassle.

If he had publicly stated he wanted to leave (like many here thought he should) then we'd be in a much more difficult situation right now.

So how long before the Madrid press come up with the 'Free DDG, he is stuck in Manchester and he is kept there beyond his will' bullshit they pulled with Ronaldo?

Well that's if he's not already accepted anything with Madrid or planned anything with Mendes...

I don't think that was done without encouragement from Ronaldo's camp.

I'm past caring what happens with DDG. If he wants to leave but doesn't have the balls to hand in a transfer request, just bench him and make him train with the youth team.

DDG is worth more to us than whatever Real will offer for him, so I'm pretty sure he'll being seeing out his contract here. I've said before, he could be worth an additional 10 points in the league more more, and we really need those points more than 15-18mil extra in the bank.

That's the worst possible thing we could do. We either sell him or we play him and let him leave on a free.

I've been there done that. Step 2 of the Disappointing DdG Drama: Hate
You'll get over it and move on to:
Step 3: feck him

For newly-hurt I've listed the steps of the DDD:

Step 1: denial (noooooooooooo)
Step 2: hate (fecker, feckity feck shit)
Step 3: feck him (United are bigger than him)
Step 4: hate 2.0 (you get it...)
Step 5: deflected hate (I'll burn my Edurne CD collection)
Step 6: resignation (well at least we have a good backup in Valdes...)
Step 7: delusion (well at least we have a good backup in Valdes...)
Step 8: realisation (he's gone)
Step 9: reasonable hate (feck Madrid)
Step 10: inner calm (bugger it, if he goes he goes)
Step 11: excitement (new notification from the transfer thread)

Oh it has already begun. Marca ran a story a couple of weeks ago claiming he was being imprisoned in Manchester - can't seem to find it now though.

Step 11: We have signed Sergio Romero.

Genuinely past the point of caring.

Hoped this would have been sorted by the time the pre season tour happened.

Couldn't give a toss anymore. Transfer "sagas" do my head in. How people live crave muppetry like this is beyond me

Every time LVG talks about him, there's the Madrid's ghost. He’s prepared to lose him anyway, and the sooner he leaves the better it is for us.

I would love to see him stay, and dream about signing a new contract, even if we lose him next year, but he’s closer to the door than his posts.

Did we have any other player who played for us as a regular for one season knowing well he would leave for free after the season? Not counting Moyes era.

He won't stay no matter what, that much is clear now. But watching him in that match against Barca (yes I know it's just a friendly), am thinking we really need a good keeper to stabilise that back four of ours. Let's just keep him for this season and make the best of it.

This also gives us more time to search for a top keeper to replace him. Who knows a new one may emerge in the coming season.

He seems to have a professional attitude so for us it's a huge bonus if he stays for another season. And during that year, everything can happen, even signing a new contract :)

Benching him next season puts him in a difficult position, he wont make the Spanish Euro squad.

We should have really gone for Cech this summer, granted he might have preferred to stay in London but he was a safe a bet as any to replace DDG and relatively cheap too.

If we're insane and don't buy another CB and he's still here after the window closes, I might very well put a bet on him being in the PL team of the season and our player of the season.

Just saw this. If this is true, I do have difficulty understanding what LvG wanted to achieve. It looks like it can backfire on him. What's the reason for telling your player he could be replaced when he has already indicated that he desperately wanted to leave?

And people on here thought Romero is to replace Valdes and there is rumour that Valdes would actually be staying. What a mess we are in!

For me, that's just van gaal keeping de gea on his toes and ensuring he's not taking his starting spot for granted.

Make or break time, I have bet £200 that he will be at United after summer Transfer window.

I've just placed £200 on De Gea to Madrid at 6/5 so I'm guaranteed a return of £40 or £500. KERCHING!

Really shit if we sell him to Barca or somewhere else

Seriously how would this strategy works? A brilliant player (our player of the year no less) does not need to be told he can't take his spot for granted. What kind of psychology is this? One (especially the manager) should remember that the reason why DDG wanted to leave is NOT because he is feeling too comfortable at United and wanted better challenge. He wanted to leave because he is not certain he will win things with us whereas in Spain he can prove himself he's taking on competing for number 1 which he has confidence in taking on.

funny as feck if he got benched though
Exactly. Imagine the big Dane was being benched for smaller guy. It would only happen in people's dreams or nightmare. Its not going to happen and everyone (including LvG if he's not mad) knows that. Nothing positive can be achieved by this. United would only be an absolute laughing stock. If LvG wanted to use Romero as a leverage to "punish" DDG, he got it all wrong there.

Seems taken out of context though. It sounds more like LvG was trying endorse Romero by saying he has enough quality to start for the team if that's what's needed. The whole world and his dog knows DDG is the better keeper, and Romero is not going to be his long-term replacement.

With the Ramos saga rolling to it's inevitable conclusion, I think the door has shut on DDG leaving. Maybe unless either Real throws in a desperate 30m bid.

According to El Confidencial Cillessen will play in United next year. They write that weeks ago he said bye to his team mates and tomorrow won´t play against Rapid. They say that the deal with Madrid for De Gea is close, the amount will be between the 25+5(bonus) that Florentino offered and the 40m€ that Van Gaal demanded. If he comes they would sell Navas

Part of a post from @NL Max in the Cillesen thread: Cillessen might also be injured for Ajax their qualifier against Rapid Wien tomorrow, it's unlikely that he will play. Frank de Boer added: 'He really has thigh problems, I would almost say luckily. It has nothing to do with a transfer.'

Maybe he is injured but el Confidencial is a very good source

You know where Florentino can stick his €40M :p we want a WR fee for a GK or he stays, just like Ramos:angel:

At the end the amount will be probably closer to 40 million. I really doubt that will be WR fee for a GK (how much is?). Now that he solved the problem of Ramos, will not hesitate to give the people what they want .

Some writers have said that Van Gaal's lukewarm attitude toward De Gea when he became manager has contributed to the current situation. I don't completely understand his approach to man management and he has alienated more than a few players here. Part of what makes a great manager is finding the right way to toughen up these softies without running them out of town.

I just received the printed edition of Marca and more or less says the same. According to them, Madrid was scared when De Gea played against Barcelona and accelerated the talks.United does not want to retain David against his will. For his part, Madrid knows that will have to make an extra financial effort, 40m€

So I guess if David doesn't play against PSG it's a done deal, question is what happens if he does play?

When is United playing? I don´t know if that will change the things but El Confidencial, Onda Cero, Man Utd Sainz, now Marca...it seems that everybody starts to agree
